Can't find the Activision thread so posting here https://www.gov.uk/government/news/microsoft-activision-deal-could-harm-uk-gamers A CMA investigation has provisionally concluded that Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision could result in higher prices, fewer choices, or less innovation for UK gamers. The provisional findings from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) follow a wide-ranging investigation conducted over the last five months to understand the market and potential impact of the deal. This has included holding site visits and hearings to hear directly from business leaders at Microsoft and Activision, analysing over 3 million internal documents from the two businesses to understand their views on the market, commissioning an independent survey of UK gamers, and gathering evidence from a range of other gaming console providers, game publishers, and cloud gaming service providers. Competition in the supply of cloud gaming services The CMA provisionally found that being able to offer popular games will be important for cloud gaming providers to attract users as the market continues to grow and develop. The evidence available to the CMA currently indicates that Microsoft would find it commercially beneficial to make Activision’s games exclusive to its own cloud gaming service (or only available on other services under materially worse conditions). Microsoft already accounts for an estimated 60-70% of global cloud gaming services and also has other important strengths in cloud gaming from owning Xbox, the leading PC operating system (Windows) and a global cloud computing infrastructure (Azure and Xbox Cloud Gaming). CMA findings https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/63e376bdd3bf7f173ad1cee4/Notice_of_possible_remedies.pdf https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/63e23d07d3bf7f17360c2564/Notice_of_provisional_findings_002.pdf https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/63e2589a8fa8f50e85820fb0/Microsoft-Activision_PFs_Summary_2.pdf Concessions Basically 1) Spin off (give up) CoD IP to 3rd party 2) Sell Activision part of ABK 3) Sell Activision and Blizzard part of ABK 4) Otherwise no deal Yeah the deal is dead2 points

Yep, it was pretty idiotic. Yep, I agree with you there. Especially the last line.2 points

Its not that difficult to keep your people, especially developers from studios you just acquired, when your company posts highest profit quarter ever recorded in its entire 60 year history. Lets not defend big techs for pulling this bullshit no matter how much we like certain companies.2 points

Kudos to Nintendo. Even though we like to compare apples and oranges in this thread, it's not the same thing. These big techs have way more exposure than Nintendo or gaming. It's never that simple.2 points

While it’s unclear if that hike will trickle down to temporary contractors at the Mario maker’s North American headquarters, some there say they’ve already seen substantial raises over the last couple of months. What a company, unlike the leechads at the big techs.2 points

To be fair, this guy is an idiot as he didn't understand the comparison. That FPS counter is unrelated to the VRS implementation. The PS5 VRS implementation was custom and utter sh*t in comparison to the XSX HW implementation. So much so that, PS5 was looking worse that XSS in some areas. Plus, it was one of the worst implementations regardless of the platform -- so they got rid of the entire thing. If done right, VRS can have an advantage to the tune of 5-15% like Gears 5.2 points

Lmao they removed the VRS entirely from console versions, probably realized their implementation was sh*t. This aged beautifully2 points

It is creepy but Leo is one of the most sought after boys in Hollywood. These no name girls must be throwing themselves to him just to get his name attached to them for clout.1 point

They absolutely do. Their 2022 numbers are supposed to be less than 2021 but more than 2020 (because first mass hiring then mass firing) but this is what the numbers look like for Sony, MS and Nintendo...1 point

There have been multiple sales on IVG, and there are numerous well trusted Whatsapp sellers selling at MRP. Getting a PS5 isn't that difficult tbh unless you only want to buy from Amazon.1 point

How did they sell out 19k PS5s in one day? I thought this would end the draught but apparently people have too much money1 point
-
You need to wrap it up within that deadline. You can access it at any point during that. Personally, I'd complete every palace within the first 2-3 days, this allowed time to freely focus on the remaining social activities.1 point

This was at launch, since then we've learned that PS5 can hit 40hz VRR using LFC. This is how you get smooth 40fps in some titles with 40fps mode. On modern TVs it doesn't matter anyway, they'll double the fps if it drops below 40 using LFC, that's why you see their threshold listed at 20hz instead of 40hz. Man I want to grab the Deluxe edition for early access, but don't want to get the digital version. And physical is sold out everywhere1 point

This is a snipped from DF article. Am I missing something here? Most importantly, VRR on PS5 only works within a narrow window defined by the HDMI Forum's 2.1 standard, between 48Hz and 60Hz (on a 60Hz screen) or 48Hz and 120Hz (on a 120Hz screen). Normally a feature called Low Framerate Compensation (LFC) will kick in at frame-rates below the VRR window, essentially doubling or tripling frames to ensure that VRR remains active. For example, if your game is running at 40fps, then you could double that to 80fps to remain within the 48 to 120Hz range. On PS5 though, it's possible to drop out of the VRR window entirely, which can lead to judder and all the other symptoms that VRR seeks to alleviate.1 point

I have VRR TV and PS5, but RT mode is not that preferable for me after playing on Balanced. Balanced is the best. Right resolution and texture details along with smooth frame rate gameplay.1 point

How PS5 owners are playing Hogwarts legacy. How @Vaibhavpis playing Hogwarts legacy on his series l Real nostalgia. Og HP gfx from 2002. Best place to play HL is series l if you want nostalgia with all bells and whistles. However if you want to experience true current gen, PS5 is the system to play it on.1 point

he’s not worried about 2 gens later. He’s asking about now and Xbox’s performance on the game is inferior. PS also has dualsense and additional quests so it’s an obvious choice. Not sure what strategy Xbox has but that’s a versus conversation1 point

Played for 4 hours straight. Midnight 0:00 to 4:00 AM, non-stop! What a game! Starts with a bang and introduces the overarching main story right away. The combat is quite good so far. Obviously, I'm yet to unlock more spells so will have more opinions later on. The graphics and performance are so, so good. *chef's kiss* The overall visual fidelity and level of detail is mind-blowing. There are 5 graphics options on the PS5. I'm playing on Balanced with an uncapped frame rate. Buttery smooth with a good LOD. Note: the screenshot below only shows 4 options during the initial set-up. But from the in-game pause menu, you can access the fifth option which is 'Fidelity with Ray Tracing.' Yet to try it though. Didn't try it yet because it says it needs to reboot the game for the change to take effect. Some more spoiler-free screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/v6CWQ6T Overall observations: Things I love: - Graphics, details, and overall visual fidelity. Stellar work by Avalanche. They are fans of the lore and it's evident. They have taken the effort, succeeded, and then some! - Tight combat, so far. - Literally no bugs so far. Not even the general open-world bugs. The polish is R* and ND-level. - Voice acting, of all characters. - Generally, good Dualsense implementation (more below). - The village of Hogsmeade is so well made. Almost all houses/shops/buildings can be entered from what I saw. Things I didn't like (minor gripes so far): - Loading times are hilariously more than the current standard. Get ready to notice a split-second black screen even while petting cats. Sometimes, even while going through doors within the castle, the main character just stands and faces the door as there is a tiny loading icon on the door handle for literally a second, and then the character opens the door. It doesn't detract from the experience much, but it could've been better. - Haptics could've been implemented during some cut-scenes too, for added immersion. Missed opportunity, IMO! - The isometric view of the map is a poor design choice. Minor thing, which could've been avoided by having a simple traditional map. - The game to play with Accio to drag the balls to a specific score, is simply bad. I skipped the instructions by mistake and lost all matches and I literally don't know how to control the level of Accio to use and I can't find the instructions again anywhere. Not cool (help, pl0x). - This one is more of a personal thing, but Horizon: Forbidden West has really spoiled me with the facial expression animations of characters during conversations. This feels like a generation behind. But only compared to H: FW. Otherwise, it's pretty standard. ----- I am yet to get a mount and truly step out of the castle. Only gone to Hogmeads on foot. Also, will share more observations about quests once I play some more and get to the core gameplay loop. Until now, the game is still introducing things. Overall, for a person who loves the Harry Potter lore, this game is a dream come true. And yeah, it's wife-approved, too!1 point

Incredible atmosphere and audio all around. Game is really dark and i love all the effects of lights and sparks all around. Very spooky. The heavy foot steps of isaac, weird faint chatter in the background, necro moving in vents and intensity music when a fight comes. Keeps one on toes all the time. Love the sound in this game. Perfect pacing and doing actual space related objectives aside from killing necros. Like Throwing a astroid into the space, aligning dish antenna in zero g, moving around in space for a short period of time. All the cool stuff you do. And those jetpacks and suit are so iron man esque. No wonder this game was/is something special and callisto had huge shoes to fill.1 point

Yeah we have . It wasn't his fault so i didn't ask for any from him . As for me - Delhivery did give me another product instead of the CD . i will try to sell it to recover my cost ( Company to whom the product belongs isn't bothered with getting it back/ searching for my CD which they received in the mix up) . Edit : Should have mentioned this earlier - Mr Copyright did offer to buy a pre-owned copy for me but i said no as i didn't think he was at fault.1 point
