  1. The HD3870@ 6K is good enough for that res. don't even bother with the newer ones just yet.

Also, just got an email from my vendor, the HD4850 will be out in two days. Will get pricing asap. i might just bite :D.

    Plz do. :)

    BTW, what make? Sapphire?

  2. You can sell it, but if it's considerably old, I wouldn't expect much.

Or, you could throw in an el-cheapo processor and RAM in the older motherboard and use it as a download/spare rig or whatever. Personally that's what I'm gonna do when I eventually upgrade. Or I might just give it to my brother, he only browses the internet and listens to music, etc and doesn't play games so this will do.

  3. Well, its settled then. Considering I'm running a 7600 GT (Good, but...), this should be a substantial upgrade. Of course, ina nother couple of months, I'll be looking to upgrade a lot more. For now, this should do.

Yes, HD 3870 will be adequate to run @ moderately high resolutions for a while. 7600GT was a great card at it's time. It still runs older games well, but you'll be blown away by the improvement your new HD 3870 brings to the table in newer games like BioShock and Shadow of Chernobyl, CoD4, etc. :P

Vivek, P45 does CrossFire @ x8/x8. I'm not aware of bottlenecking issues, although I think it will be minimal, if there is any that is as the new crop of Intel motherboards like P45/X48 and even P35 have PCIE x16 v2.0 slots. I think this slot is approximately twice more capable than original PCIE x16 slots. And I doubt even current video cards are utilizing all of the PCIE x16 v2's capacity anyway.

  4. ^It'll work. PCI express v2.0 cards are backwards compatible with PCI express X16 slots.

I don't think there's any bottlenecking issues with the current generation of cards either. If you're getting it for 6k man, I'd take it. HD 4850 isn't going to come in here @ US prices, obviously.

  5. Still about US$ 250-300 in India for factory overclocked cards cry5.gif

    XFX 8800GT XXX/EVGA various OC'ed 8800GT cards are still pretty expensive. :(

Pricing's pretty bad here. The 9800GTX SSC is 19k. Which is around 440$, you can get a 9800GX2 or HD 4850 CrossFire in US for the same price. :P

  6. But just for reference GT280 is still the fastest single card out there and it exceeds competition as a single card with a heavy margin

It's a good card when you look at it on paper. But it's not worth the price it's offered at.

  7. Antec 900 is a great case, but this one is good for air cooling too. It has 4x slots for 120MM fans.

I personally like the look of the NZXT Tempest. I don't think it's available here though, but other NZXT cases are available @ ITWares. Hopefully the Tempest comes here too.

P.S. which is the best processor i can get for around 7k? Do wolfdale processors run on 945G chipsets

It's possible, I guess. This article on Anandtech states that certain 945GC motherboards support Wolfdale CPU's with BIOS updates.

If you're in the market for an Intel Core2Duo, the best buy right now is E7200. If you want higher clock speed, E8400. The E8400 is a bit out of your budget of 7k, though. So E7200 seems to be your best bet. BTW, the E7200 is for 5.9k @ ITWares, so expect the price to be around there when you get it from somewhere in locality.

  8. The SSC version of the EVGA 9800GTX is listed at around 19k on ITWares, however this is the factory overclocked version so I'd assume the standard versions will be considerably cheaper.

10.5k-11.5k for the HD 4850 would be incredible imo.

And Pyrotek, HD 3870 is still a good card and will perform great in most games out now @ reasonably high settings. However, considering the HD 4850 is a better performer, I'd suggest you wait for the official Indian price and make your decision. If you're getting the HD 3870 for 6k, it's a steal. I wouldn't expect the HD 4850 to come in for anything less than 12-13k. Taking into account you're saving 50%+, it isn't a bad purchase at all.

  9. I enjoy HIMYM quite a lot. Barney ftw!

nothing that has happened in the show so far has anything to do with how he meets her

I guess nothing besides the yellow umbrella that the mom carries around. I hope it's not Stella though. I like Sarah Chalke but I'm not totally feeling that character.

  10. Thumbs up to Ultimate Matrix. Watching Neo exit the phonebooth as RATM's 'Wake Up' plays in the background and watching Smith give his awesome speech on how he thinks humans are a virus in HD must be pretty EPIC.

Remember the Friends episode where Joey gifts Chandler the "Woman Repeller"? biggrin.gif

    Bracelet buddies FTW.
