  1. Hi all..

    I recently acquired a 1 TB 7200.11. ST31000340A8.

It was working fine until recently with a frnd of mine's system. Now i got the HDD and connected to my PC. On booting up it makes a clicking noise continuously. From what i heard the HDD is bricked or about to be bricked. Is that correct?

Anything to do other than RMA ???. What is the RAM process of Seagate?

    Any help appreciated.

    *ooh i am depressed today*

  2. Hi all...

    Need a PSU suggestion please..

I plan to build a system just for a file server.

    AMD sempro 140 + mATX mobo + 1 GB DDR2 ram.

    1 * 2.5" HDD

    5 * 3.5" HDD.

    And maybe a DVDRW drive.

What is the correct PSU for me? VFM ones please.

  3. Hi all..

    I have 3 Internal HDD's and 2 Ext HDD's connected to my PC. A genric 450w PSU.

I have few issues, Any ideas?

    1. During Video playback the player gets stuck and the HDD light blinks

continously. and i have to kill the app from task manager. sometimes

i cant access that HDD again after that and have to restart the machine

    2. Sometimes one of my HDD's just disappear from My computer. I have to restart my machine many time.

    I use Win7 and KmPlayer.

  4. Well...

I am all into linux this time, but..

I have no idea wether RAID is for me. First, I have no idea how it works. i know the theory yes though.

And 30 watts power??.. Even with a twin disc setup it will go up that. i think. even if its WD Green.

ION2??.. mate why going hifi over this.. all u do is turn on..it will run and u access the file...

  5. Hi All...

I have a real big pblm...

Most of my ext HDDs, other than MyBooks, are on generic ext cases.

So sometime when booting up they wont be recognised. It will show

a small dialog box saying to format. If i connect the HDD to my PC

via SATA then it works ok. I guess the case is the culprit here.

So i need another ext storage solution, similar to a NAS.

I have abt 5 HDDs of abt 5 TB to be shared. My idea is to get a

very low end Proccy+Mobo+Ram with a low capacity OS drive and

install WHS in it, making it headless and connected to my router.

Then connect the 5 HDD's via SATA. and share them. And map them to my PC's

and laptops. Is this idea good or bad?

Or is FreeNAS on a CF card is a better choice?. Anyone know whats the boot time

    will be for this thing?

    And the hardware.

I am looking for a cheap Proccy+Mobo+Ram, but most mobos have

very low number of SATA ports, so is getting a SATA expansion card

good. Any models to recommend and prices?

And is using a Atom board with a PCI SATA card good enough?.

As it got only 2 SATA ports. My OS option is FreeNAS on a CF card for this.

Any potential pit falls? Or any better ideas?

These HDD's will be storing videos, HD and non HD...

so the trasnfer speeds should be good enough.

And i have a genric 450w PSU. I was plannign to use it with this.

It got 4 Molex power and 1 PCIe power, will use with SATA power coneverters.

Is this good? or which one is good enough for me.. with room for expansion.

    Any advices will be appreciated.

  6. Honestly...

I never run 64bit.... Its just confuses me..

I am talking from a developer perspective. the System32 and wow64 is really unnerving for me.

But nowadays people are hung up on 64 bit... so i guess win7 64 bit is the way to go. and legacy support is there. so its all cooll...

I develop my "work" on 64 bit though...

  7. oops.. VR is WD veloci raptor, as the OS drive... for the extra ooomph... and get the 1 TB WD Green

Excellent choice for the gfx card.

    Hmmm.... WC ???..

U do know that its not the one time thing as in air cooling...r8?.. it needs maintenance, care and what not. One of the reasons i been shying away from it for some time...though want to do it sooo bad. I think a 3rd part air cooler will do just fine... as u got A/C for 24*7. Just hit the lowest temp ur a/c can do.. think u be ok...

but that case is sooo yesterday....:chucks: ... but its a fine mighty nice case... just lots of new models have come since...

  8. @MT...

Honestly Avoid SSD's for now. not worth the money... for now... let it come to a bit more acceptable range. If u want to spend more money get a better Gfx card.. seeing that u can couple with ur 52". I am sure u can wait a minute to boot ur machine up and not gonna do any folding or number crunches r8?.

    Get a i7 920, X58 Giga Extreme (My pick will be Evga X58), 6 GB DDR3, 160 GB VR, 1 TB, 5970 .... money better spend.

and yeah if u need cooling a Thor maybe.. and a nice case. get a Corsair modular series if u can get it... guess the one u pick is also very good enough.

  9. 10 feet wide room.. so 5 feet each..

    yea it will be enough.

and oh yeah.. the control pod's LCD backlight, the blue one..

chances are that it might go off... mine did..even after 3 replacements that took 2 months.

So does 1000's.. just google.

    Nothing to do..

  10. i am also considering to get earphones....do you think the sound is good enough of PL30's to hear distinct footsteps of enemies on MW2 (i also use earphones to play xbox)?

i used a friends creative 630, and it was pretty good enough and was going to get that, now I am considering PL30 too...

PL-11 is also very good. i been using the PL-30 for few months.. ahh its just ordinary for me atleast.
