    I am leaning towards Intel too as the support for most data science libraries is solid. Having a dedicated GPU wouldn't be bad though in case I need to handle some large datasets but will be very minimal. I was looking at XPS and something from Asus.

    Need to invest in a great laptop. Use case: Research, lot of video calls, presentations and data science projects. Won't game much but decent battery and good internals. I know Mac fits the bill but I don't like MacOS and just more comfortable with Windows. Need good speakers and trackpad. 16" preferred, else 14" is fine too. Budget is flexible but ready to spend if I can get good value for it. Not too heavy. Please suggest.

    That is how things work in an ideal world. Not the real world. Companies will happily pay more to a new employee as compared to an existing one because expect less people to switch and new employees are bar raisers. It's a cost saving mechanism. And no, it wasn't about the same pay range. It was about trying to get the same person for the same pay but handling him more responsibilities.

    Fundamental investor here. Happy to hold stock in red if the business keeps performing. No stoploss and targets. All I can say is that I will be happy to add GNFC at 500 and hold for next 5 years. But fully expecting to dip below that too.

    Was going through bunch of interviews recently and everyone asked me the same. For some I gave a ballpark number and for others I just said that X is the market value etc etc. I have been particularly lucky and have been able to negotiate but some of friends where quoted downright insulting offers after getting through all rounds. Ex: Friend was earning X and was offered X, lol. He then said he got offer from Amazon for X+0.15X and then was told to take it or leave it. After he left it, they came back with X+0.25X, which given the current market is still not that amazing. While one of friends got into Google and the recruiter was amazing. Gave market value from the get go plus hike from the get go. A good way to circumvent it is by saying you have a sizable year end component and hence it won't be visible in previous paychecks.

    No guarantee, no salary. It just opens the door for equity and asset management jobs. MBA still is the best way to get into this space. CFA just sets you apart because of the growing competition. I am registered for CFA L1 and I am looking to get it before my MBA. Your ctc will be decided from your other qualifications, skills and most importantly, your last CTC.

    @LordSpymaster Since investments in Mirae and PPFAS are limited and based on SIP, is there any other fund which you are topping up on red days? Axis Bluechip or any other?

    Paytm didn't crumble despite results, might make a bottom here. Neuland hammered, inching closer and closer to 1-1.5x sales, which is insane.

    I have experienced this too. Was clearly interested in C9 but they didn't bother to attend. However, things were opposite in another store. I think these guys know that they can't beat prices of RD or Vijay Sales and hence, don't even try.

    Twitter filled with instances of fake items being delivered by Flipkart and then customer service cancelling the return request even when photos and unboxing video are available. Gonna stay away from Flipkart for good.

    In my experience, almost every Indian operator charges just about the same. And the service can be really dodgy while being expensive. I would suggest to get a local sim on arrival from the airport. Much better prices even for international calls and data. It's instantly activated.

    Looks good to me. But then again, you never know when Amazon or Google or Apple ends up eating FB's core business or if Netflix can get the growth back. Lot of optionalities in the business but depends on execution. So your cousin needs to do his due diligence.

    Core business made $33B last quarter as compared to $27B in Q4FY20 and $21B in Q4FY19. Meta trading at <20x FCF, that is insane. Especially with over $10B put behind R&D. I would seriously put 5% of my PF behind Meta if it were simpler. Margin of safety is too good.
