  1. The good
    • Eight cores and 16 threads at half the price of Intel
    • Excellent performance in workstation applications
    • AM4 is a modern, full-featured platform
    • While only a small performance boost, XFR is zero-effort and works well
    The bad
    • Gaming performance is weak compared to Intel, particularly in modern titles
    • Specialised AVX applications will perform better under Intel
    The ugly
    • A higher-clocked quad-core chip like the Intel i7-7700K or 7600K is still the best choice of processor for most

    PROS
    • Low cost
    • Low TDP
    • Office and workstation applications
    CONS
    • Sub-par gaming performance in some titles
    • Poorly optimized software ecosystem
In the end, AMD’s Ryzen is arguably the most disruptive CPU we’ve seen in a long time for those who need more cores. The CPU basically sells itself when you consider that for the same price as an Intel 8-core Core i7-6900K, you can have an 8-core Ryzen 7 1800X and a GeForce GTX 1080. Hell, you can go a step further and give up a little performance with the Ryzen 7 1700 but step up to a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti—for the same price as that Intel chip. Damn. But that’s the world Intel has wrought by keeping 8-core CPUs at what many would say are artificially high prices for so long.
Ryzen, however, isn’t a knockout. The gaming disparities at 1080p are sure to spook some buyers. In fact, if you read our Ryzen 7 1700 build against a 5-year-old Core i5 Intel box, you’ll likely be filled with fear, uncertainty, and doubt. Is this really just a game optimization problem as AMD says, or is it some deeper flaw that can’t be corrected?
Still, let’s give AMD credit for what it has pulled off today in essentially democratizing CPU core counts.
It’s been a long time coming, but AMD Ryzen is here and it looks impressive. Though we only have the Ryzen 7 1800X in our results today I am eager to get back home and get to testing the 1700X and 1700 models and see if they offer as compelling of an alternative to Intel’s dominance as the 1800X does. For $499 I foresee quite a few enthusiasts plopping down the dough to get an 8-core/16-thread beast of a processor in their rig.
Even better, with the new chipsets and motherboards from ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte and others, going with an AMD platform doesn’t automatically put you behind the 8-ball when it comes to storage and connectivity! Platforms with NVMe slots, USB 3.1, Type-C and more are widely available and starting at $100 going to $300 depending on the number of goodies you desire.
We still have questions and not everything is perfect. The single threaded performance between the Ryzen 7 1800X and the Core i7-7700K leans in Intel’s favor across the board, with that advantage moving from mid-single digits to 25%+ depending on the application. Gaming results are particularly concerning as AMD has been pushing Ryzen as a gamers and enthusiasts dream solution, combining “good enough” gaming ability with amazing multi-threaded capability.
It’s hard to argue with what we see today though and I’ll be awarding the Ryzen 7 1800X with our Gold Award, offering the performance of a Core i7-6900K for half the price!
    TechReport (all 3 CPU's review)
Small wrinkles and our differences in performance priorities aside, it bears repeating that AMD is well and truly back in the high-performance x86 CPU game. If the company can further refine the Zen architecture over time, take advantage of future process improvements, and push clocks higher, we expect that future Ryzen chips will be competitive for many years to come. For now, we say bravo, AMD, and welcome back.

If you are building a PC today that is going to be used for nothing but desktop gaming, I would suggest you buy a 7600K or 7700K and overclock those and enjoy the performance you will be getting with those. As soon as you look beyond only desktop gaming, Ryzen suddenly looks much better. If you are using your system for any type of encoding or decoding, or content creation, the Ryzen is simply the best value. If you are building a system that will be leveraging a VR gaming headset, it is easy to suggest you go with the Ryzen CPU as well. It does not perform the best in VR, but it performs extremely well, and I think we are going to see VR gaming engines become increasingly more thread aware as the technology advances.
Intel is scrambling in what seems like a feverish emergency over AMD's new Ryzen processors, with Microcenter dropping Core CPU prices like crazy - and now, Intel is sending tech media emails saying "call us before you write" your Ryzen review. This is what happens when AMD launches their new Ryzen 7 1800X processor priced at $499, offering performance that rivals Intel's current $1000+ processor. Charlie Demerjian, Semi Accurate founder and super-awesome comic book collector said: "Intel PR sent out a last-minute "call us before you write" email to most of the press, but not SemiAccurate, after hours last night. You could infer that they are suddenly really worried about something".

Man when you just have to be a desperate, sad and salty Luddite rather than actually improving your products.
  2. Is this 1080 Ti is the best graphics card to buy for upcoming years of gaming or Nvidia is hiding something big behind the doors which will be revealed after the announcement and release of upcoming AMD vega cards?

Also is it better to shift from 1080 to 1080 Ti now?

    No and no.

If you have spare money, please donate to t3kcurry.wordpress.com. :notangel:

  3. so are there any chances we would see the pricedrop in 1070/80 reflected locally??

Yes, GTX1080 is already down from ~60,000/- -->55,000/- range to ~50,000/- and lesser in retail.

We should see some compression on GTX1070 due to that but not much effect below that unless nVidia wants to play extremely aggressive.

  4. How the f**k did a black dude land in British fantasy world?:ko:

    not racist just asking facts

Dude there are a lot of dark skinned characters in the lore. -_-

Obviously none of them is a central character or was showcased in the Jackson series.

  5. But you have to consider that Nvidia could have potentially priced this higher and got away with it. Why they decided to throw us a bone is a bit of a mystery.

Because they know there is no other option. They are not doing us a favour, a majority of profits were already minted from the guys who had picked up the Pascal GPU's till point.

  6. Wow this is Unexpected in a good way! $699 is a good price. Nobody expected it. Everyone was expecting atleast $800-900. 35% faster than 1080? Insane! Bold statement but they just killed Vega before it even launched.

Which is still a $50 raise over the last Ti card, the 980Ti. nVidia asketh and we giveth away. :giggle:

    No full 3840 shaders

    Maybe another card incoming?

    TiTan X black?

I see no reason to launch another SKU.

Meanwhile all the news from the Team Red camp has been.

Guys the next gen AMD GPU's codename VEGA are called RX VEGA.

    Pls buy on launch.

  7. Is anyone certain that the price of battlefield 1 won't go below this for few more months to come?

Fairly certain, the price always drops down to this level and then stays, obviously buying just the base game is pointless when everyone around you who is serious will get the Premium Pass and that is when you feel the pinch.

Can you put mask on Aloy's face :P

She cannot be as ugly as your Mass Effect chicks.

GTS still haven't shipped the game. Have to wait I guess :samui:

Physical copies delayed to 8th March.

  9. Hi Guys,

I hope I am not repeating a question. I am considering buying a gaming laptop instead of assembling a gaming pc from scratch.

The reason is so that I can save on space.

I needed some advice on whether or not this is a good idea. My budget is around 60k.

I am not planning to purchase a monitor.

How much space do you have because ~60,000/- is definitely not suffice for a decent laptop for gaming purpose.

  10. Yeah, I was speaking about the general quality of the product in case of the Hobbit (first movie was mostly OK, the rest... eh). These games are basically fan-fiction. But WB has the license so...

It is just me being cynical about the theme just being a set dressing to what is essentially open-world sand box formula 101.

  11. ^^ LOL

I liked the first one, combat was solid, probably the best take on the Arkham-style fighting. But apart from the Nemesis system it was the same old open-world towerfest. Decent game though. I'm expecting this one to be more of the same with even more liberties taken with the source material. "Forge a new ring of power" - Tolkien must be rolling in his grave lol...

Tolkien probably is rolling in the grave after the first one itself.

  12. You have a good point but how can one justify a 20k Nokia 6 with Snapdragon 430? Nokia fans may buy it but people with technical knowledge will pass.

The budget model Nokia 3 has a Mali T720 which is 3 yr old low end gpu. Expect lag even with stock Android.

Even SD410 would have been better option. And SD625 for Nokia 6.

How many people are technically inclined? If everyone was technically inclined we would have seen nothing in the low end but OnePlus and the top end should have been dominated by Nexus devices but that is not the case, is it.

That video explains the mentality of smartphone buyers very well, a first time or non technically inclined person will buy based on the brand and his perceived image of it, not whether it has a SnapDragon 430 or a SnapDragon 821 SoC.

The same way quality of cameras is abbreviated and attached to the MegaPixel count, instead of the sensor and optical solution being used.

Also, kindly stop extrapolating prices from the $ rates given. It does not work that way.

SnapDragon 625 is being used by a whole bunch of devices, in-fact MOTO G5 Plus is also going to carry that chip.

  13. Good video.

But then there are companies like Xiomi who dont compromise on soc even in budget phones.

Nokia is looking to get a share of the Android market. These new phones will be reviewed by tech websites which will point out the deficiency in soc and will be read by millions of people.

Reviews will be average which will affect sales.

The reason samsung and other big companies get good sales for their crap low end phones is because they already have an established userbase and loyal fans. Nokia is starting from scratch so by equipping their phones with sub par soc and high price and thinking they can get away with it, well i have a feeling it will turn out badly for them.

What is Xiaomi's modus operandi, you know, I know. You will go to get service for their hardware, God save you.

NOKIA cannot go in with that attitude, plus it is not looking to hit the exact same demographic as Xiaomi anyway, their devices would be hitting MOTOROLA devices. Good software support, decent hardware with a premium feel.

I do not see how reviews will be average when no one has even got the actual retail SKU in hand. That is like saying MOTOROLA devices sales suck, no they do not even after their hardware is clearly worse than Lenovo and Xiaomi and a bajillion other Chinese smartphone devices but they are reliable, consistent and easy to use.

About creating an identity, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! People see this like the second coming of Jesus, many had their first mobile experience with NOKIA feature handsets, as long as they can keep a good package with reliable supply and support I see no reason why their hardware will not cut a space for itself.

Don't really want to switch to iPhone from Android. All my apps, photos etc will have to be moved.

I will look at one plus 3t. Should have bought mi5 or mi5s had it been available here.

Get a MOTO device or a Google Pixel.
Most Chinese handset manufacturers do not support the full gamut of bands in the US or are brought in from China so lack GAPS on them.
  14. GTX 970 or 1060 listed as recommended. Wtf? 1060 is not in same class as 970, it's on par with 980, how can both be recommended? Go home WB you are drunk.

Really depends on the games you run on the cards. For example here, the GTX970 pulls ahead of the GTX1060 @1440p where logic will dictate that the latter's higher memory pool should make it the winner.

System requirements are more like a rule of thumb to understand how games should ideally perform and seeing the history of recent PC releases, take everything with a bucket of salt.
