Getting terrible DL speed while downloading Windows 10 updates..any way to fix it?I'm using a 40mbps connection but still it's slow AF.
Its terrible actually..even opening the store takes a long time..It needs Military Grade Internet i presume..
-
I think FINALLY i figured out what was downloading in the BG..The bloody win 10 store apps
..Have shut automatic updates for it..Also, i have heard win 10 invades a lot of our privacy so anything to keep off like Cortana, smartscreen filter etc..
-
^So should i start the "Windows Update" Service before doing the above method or just leave it disabled..
EDIT: figured it out myself
-
^ Windows 10 automatically downloads patches, no real way of telling it not too.
The only thing you can delay is the installation of the same.
So first i need to go into Services and start it again i presume..If there is any link that you can pass on to atleast delay the installation..would be nice..
And thanks for your help in making me understand the process of installation of OS..
-
^ So it was updating in the background.
Ya I guess so..what a culprit..so now I need to keep Windows 10 updated..so what's the proper way of doing..
-
Check resource monitor and see what's being downloaded.
Is your drive being used 100%?
I went into services n stopped Windows update..and I think it kinda stopped cause of that..though will keep a look on it..
-
It might be upgrading. Check windows update.
I checked it it's not...in that window it's showing check for updates..
-
So I did clean install of win 10 but browser is running very slow..no idea why..Is something downloading in bg cause the net is constantly blinking..can someone tell me where to stop that for time being..
-
So..It's asking for CD key now..wat to do..?
EDIT: it took my 8.1 key..
-
Upgrade process? You upgraded to Windows 10, and now going to make clean install?
It doesn't ask for key while installing. Go ahead.
Ya just want a fresh install so all softwares work well..thanks..
-
So upgrade process is complete..i guess i can go ahead and do the clean install..it shows windows is activated..i hope it doesn't ask for the key while installing
-
Going through upgrading process currently..
What to choose for the "Choose to keep" window..I'm goin to have clean install once activation completes though..have taken backup of most of the stuff from the OS drive..

^ NTFS is for legacy BIOS systems.
Future systems can use NTFS / FAT32.
Ok got it..
-
Flash your boot pen-drive to NTFS (if you have a UEFI based system) and let Rufus take care of the rest.
Ok, so rite now i have created the boot USB for UEFI according the link you had given me.Here it is.
http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-usb-flash-drive-create-install-windows-10-a.html
it says FAT32..NTFS is only for future i presume..
-
That's lot of things to just refresh your OS.
Why not just use the upgrade tool? It does provide you fresh installation option.
Does it ?..i thought it didn't.. i was under the impression that it first upgrades to win 10 n then i have to manually fresh install by the backup taken previously..
-
Stick the pendrive. Shut down. Start, press butron for boot menu (if you dont know, search online). Select boot by usb media (or something). See if wondows installation begins
Well tried this and it does work..so i believe i'm good to go..Also i wanna take another backup in another USB using media creation tool( the one currently is with Rufus).Just in case i don't lose this one..
So how my usb needs to be formatted ?..Default or something else..
-
^ Did you change your boot order?
No what i meant was, i have an official win 8.1 disc..when i insert into drive,,it autoplays and shows the setup window on desktop..i was trying the same thing with this USB it didn't happen..i was asking if that's normal if USB devices don't autoplay but it would work when i change boot order and start installing.
I haven't started the upgrade yet as i want to get this perfect cause once i upgrade i guess i won't have an option take a backup for clean installation..
-
^ So i have made a bootable usb using rufus..and wanted to test n see if the usb autoplays or not (on my running 8.1 OS)..it didn't and showing me the files as it would on an USB..Is that normal and It would when i perform clean installation...cause a DVD would definitely boot up..
Also, if i wanna take another copy of it using Media creation tool..what should my USB properties (allocation unit etc)..cause it doesn't show anything as Rufus would..
-
Best use Rufus to create a bootable pen-drive.
Ya that's my last option cause on the mobo i have only 2 USB 2.0 drives which are utilized by my KB and mouse..
Since he's trying to burn Windows 10 ISO, wouldn't it be better if he used the official Microsoft media creation tool that's here...
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/
Just asking. For everything else, I definitely recommend Rufus but since it's Windows 10, I personally went with the official media creation tool and it worked great

I took the iso out of that tool itself..After download got over it asked for burn it to a disc..There was an option "Open DVD burner"..Used it but was unsuccessful..
Also, media creation creation tool also has usb option..if i try that now will it download the iso again..?
