1. The problem is I never discussed about this earlier during my 12th or 11th so the thing is i havent prepared for any engineering exam be it jee , aieee,ip, bits etc.. So i think i would have to drop a year to get into good college for btech in CS. And from what i have heard Going abroad for UG is not a good option rather i should go for masters for abroad. So this all is making me even more confused.

Its not too bad to drop a year and prepare for exams, a lot of people does that. At this point you can spare an year but in later stages it won't be possible. Don't rush and make a mistake here, else you'd be wasting a lot of time later.

Other option is try for good private universities like VIT, SRM. They admit without exam, but will ask lot of admission fee.

  2. Guys,

Just looking for some info. Do any of you have contacts in European and UK Universities??

    Particularly:

    1. ETH Zurich, Switzerland.

    2. Imperial (South Kensington), London.

    3. Delft, Nedherlands.

    4. KTH, Sweden.

    5. Cambridge, UK.

All of them are top ten unis :O

  3. There will be lot of unis which offer btech. I'm not familiar with any unis in Delhi. Ask around and find which unis are good.

If you wanna go aboard, there a big process. First step is to write SAT and TOEFL exams. After that based on those scores you can shortlist which unis you can apply for. Unis basically select based on your test scores, academic record and your experience in CS field or any related courses you did.

  4. SO is there a point for doing bsc as there is not Btech in Delhi Uni .

And what about doing btech from abroad.

If you are good at English its not that hard to get into good unis aboard.

Can your parents afford it? Fees will be like 5-10x times more than here. If your parents can't afford, you have to do lots of part times and work extra hard.

Pros are there will be more opportunities, but you have to search for them.

  5. Kyoya I think you're confusing B.E. and B.Sc.

B.E. (in Comp) and B.Tech. are treated as the same value. B.Sc is NOT.

Ah yes sorry. I saw many students with bachelor in engg from Mumbai and pune unis applying for ms. It was 4 year degree. Thought northies call it that way instead of btech :fear:

Not sure of 3 year degree.

  6.

Wrong. Bsc is usually a three year course, while B.Tech is a four year course. B.Tech is considered a proper engineering degree , where as most companies requires a candidate to have "BSc + MS (or MCA)" to be considered equivalent to a B.Tech candidate.

I meant the courses they teach are same. Not sure about jobs but to get into MS bsc and btech holds almoat equal value.

  7. And what you mean is if go for studies as u said then i will have a wide variety of fields opened up for me right..[/background]

Yes you will be opened up to many fields and you can get a good idea which field to persue by the end of 4 years.

Those 4 topics I mentioned are imp for game Dev. Work on those, you have lots of time and now you are thinking what to do early in life. I'd say you have an advantage over even IIT students, who usually don't have any clue what to do before entering to under graduate degrees.

  8. Networking is good carrier. There are lot of opportunities for that field in gaming and out of gaming too. Right now highest paid game jobs are for server programmers.

Bsc and btech are the same in India. In south we usually call btech and some northie colleges call it bsc.

DU is very good uni in India. If you can get into it don't worry about jee.

  9. Delhi university?? I heard its pretty good uni. Modi is alumini :P

If you can afford you can try aboard. You have to write SAT exam. It has apptitude and English. Aptitude is kids stuff compared to our Indian exams. But English is tough. You should be able to afford it, or else go trough lot of hardships by doing part-time jobs.

I recommend doing btech in India and MS in Us. 6 years if solid study will get you a ganing job and nice pay for sure.

No need to worry about job security for programmers you can get other job in web Dev or many other fields with you game programming exp.

You don't have to learn any languages. Learn c++ toroughly first. Try doing your core subjects well. More than languages you need to have good knowledge in topics like algorithms, graphics, ai, network. Try to do some projects under those 4 topics under your profs, no need to be gaming related. Many gaming jobs are related to those 4 topics.

  10. If you are interested in programming I can help.

1st don't go to game Dev programs. Do a computer science or information technology btech. Preferably CS. You will be doing programming in the job, just normal writing codes and stuff nothing fancy just cause its game Dev. -this is very important. If you don't like maths, programming you won't like game dev. Don't expect it to be something fun as playing games.

Competing with students in CS and learning programming gives a better chance at getting job than doing game Dev programs. If you can get into good institutes like iits, nits, bits its all the better. After your board exams give all entrance exams a try. Kids these days are preparing for years for this exams. You'll have tough competition.

What game Dev program does is they just teach you what you do in games dev. In CS they teach you the basics and core concepts required to get the job done. To put it simply in game Dev program they teach you formula to do the problem, but in CS they teach you how to make the formula. From the formula you have to figure out how to do the problem.

Game jobs in India are rare. And pay is less. If you really wanna do this you have to go to US. and to go to US your CS degrees helps a lot more than game Dev degree.

To conclude. Do CS btech and get a cgpa above 8/10. This is f**king must. Get good grades. Especially in courses like algorithms, graphics, ai, networking. Because there are the concepts you use in game Dev.

And do some mini games on your own when your are doing btech. You'll have lots of time. Don't chill out, use your free time.

  11. There are some idiots on this forum who think that new Indian Jones game on that "nextgen" console has better foliage and details than Crysis 3 running on ultra ...

    Fools :loser:

 I bet no one found this gem yet.

  12. You need to do these 4 things

    1) break water pots by rolling into them. Makes you wet and heat resistance. There are water pots near where you find that mimic chest.

    2) equip flame resistance ring. Can be bought from pyromancy girl you give cloths to.

3)flash sweat. and if you have it already, smelting demon armor. If not no problem.

4)kill the red phantom guy guarding the chest before running over the lava to reach the chest.
