  1. Yes 6 months dealer warranty in all probabilities means its an imported item. But you were also getting it imported. So it would mean the same thing minus India warranty. At least the dealer is giving you a 6 month warranty (although it doesn't really make a difference). Just find out whether the dealer is reliable or not and whether the box is sealed or opened.

  2. Bro I just found a great price for Nikon D5000 on ebay. Be sure to check this. It includes the 18-55 mm VR lens kit. Great price of Rs. 32,300 shipped . Not sure whether it has any warranty or not (or might be an imported piece). The seller is based in Chennai and looks like there is a website and the shop address given. You can ask anyone you know in Chennai to go and have a look in the shop if possible.

  3. @ Dullu - If this is your first dslr then I would suggest you to go and test Nikon D3000. I was in a similar confusion and I was about to go for Nikon D3000 as its user friendly . I went through a lot of reviews for it and found that it was the a great switch to the world of beginners dslr photography.

I had a budget of about 30k for my dslr and I chose Nikon D5000 because I got a very good deal (Rs 25,000 something). The most important difference which was important for me between Nikon D3000 and Nikon 5000 was live view . There is no Live View mode in Nikon D3000.

Well you can check more points of difference here :- http://mansurovs.com/nikon-d3000-vs-d5000

Have you ascertained any budget for the dslr ? It might have a significant impact on your choices.

    Just my 50 cents

  4. A basic tripod should cost you around 1800-2400.

A good one will cost you atleast 15k.

Hmmm.. I guess I will go for the basic for now. 15k is too big an investment for the time being. I am mostly going to shoot indoors my paintings and furniture.

    @ps3geek

Better option is to buy gorrilapad. Its a more flexible option if you like trick photography. You can get it easily for 1k or so, in India itself.

Thanks for the info. I am going through websites to know more about it .

  5. But your pictures look professional.

I got a killer deal for the Nikon D5000 - got it for Rs. 25,500 (52,000 yen) from Japan. That is including the 18-55 mm VR lens. { had I bought from India, it would have taken back 35-40k)

Any suggestion for a decent tripod stand for the same and how much would it cost ?

  6. I am looking forward to buy a camera (between an ultrazoom and a low end dslr) . Its becoming so confusing to decide which one to go for .

    My priority requirements :-

    1) Live View

    2) Good colour representation and sharp close-ups (macro mode)

    3) Lithium Battery

    4) Below 25k for non dslr's and below 30k for dslr's

Models I'm Considering (not necessarily in any order) :-

    Dslr's -

    1) Nikon D5000 (getting a great deal of $ 645 which includes 18-55 mm VR lens) - this and the canon generally comes around $800 . Price in India coming to 39k with lense

    2) Canon EOS 500 D or Rebel T1i (US name)

    6) Adding Canon EOS 1000D (but it has no video - although that is not a priority but I would love to have this feature)

    Ultrazooms -

    3) Nikon Coolpix P100

    4) Canon G11 (don't think this is an ultrazoom) - price in india is 29k and in the US is $450

    5) Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35

    5) Sony Cybershot HX-1

If I buy an ultrazoom from India , it will almost in the same region of the price for Nikon D5000 which I am getting a great deal on walmart.

I checked the reviews of Nikon D5000 and it is one of the most user friendly dslr's for beginners who want to make a move from the regular digi cams.

Please suggest what you think about the above choices and whether I can improve upon them anyway.

My priority is not portability .

  7. Hey ps3geek.. :) .. Got the Dell S2409W for 13.2k.. ( Stupid Sales Tax documents required in UP, so can't order online.. :P .. ) .. AFAIR, you can get it for 12.5k shipped by one of the sellers on TE.. Comes with a VGA and a DVI cable.. :) ..

And yeah, the monitor has Audio In & Out jacks.. :D .. 3.5mm..!!.. So you can surely connect your headphones..!!..

nice buy bro : ) .. thanks for the info

  8. i think SRK has rather spoiled KKR with his star factor...the players act as if they have won the game before it started..plus those lavish parties etc after a victory...woh hindi main hai na

"gadhe ko ghee hazam nai hota"

thought this year it will be bit different but again the same old story

    :roflroll:

On a serious note, more than SRK , what is hurting Kolkata is the lack of good local talent. Except for Murali Kartik , I don't see any Indian playing well this year. The likes of Manoj Tiwary, Dinda, Saha,Shukla are pedestrian... Plus Ganguly himself is under a lot of fire for his scoring rate. The biggest problem with him being the captain is that its difficult to leave him out for the match and leaving him out will be disastrous for SRK from the commercial point of view (he will lose a lot of supporters). Time for some very tough decisions to make.

  9. Ohh yes even I had no clue where the match was being aired. Luckily found set max and saw the last 5 overs and boy what an EPIC match !!! Southee was equally deserving for man of the match even though his figures are misleading. He stoped White when he was on a Carnage..I suppose he got 11/12 deliveries which were unplayable ( in the sense to hit for a boundary)!

And gosh I have never seen so many spectators in a match in NZ ...The commentators must have told a 100 times that there are 26,148 people in the ground today.

    WHAT A MATCH !

  10. Brotha i have seen his knock. I was there... He clobbered our bowlers no doubt. But at that time India were no great shakes... Our team was a mediocre performer. India were ranked 7th during those days.

Sachin made the knock against a team like South africa... You get that??? South africa... Anwar made those runs after being dropped at 15 or so during that innings.

Again, did he make 200??? No he dint. Nuff said. Doesnt matter if his knock was great. People will always remember the fact that someone made 200. Give it sometime Anwars knock will fall into the deathly hallows of cricketing history.

There is no place for 2nd best anywhere... You gotta be on the top mister!!! :)

You nailed it on the head...People remember either the firsts or the current best .

  11. WOah just saw Australia vs West Indies T20. was absolute carnage... mayhem..

OZ's end the season with an unbeaten summer

West Indies = Total (7 wickets; 20 overs) 138 (6.90 runs per over)

    Australia = Total (2 wickets; 11.4 overs) 142 (12.17 runs per over)

    Warner - 67 of 29 balls - 7 sixes and 5 boundaries

    Watson - 62 n.o of 33 balls - 4 sixes and 4 boundaries
