Not only did they not close any borders, they did no prepartions and just went along assuming that this new variant in Maharastra wouldn't come back to hurt them. Same with district borders within Maharashtra. Amravati was getting 1000+ cases per day in the 2nd half of February. Within a month, the virus was weaking havoc in Mumbai. They have introduced the e-pass system now when the contagion has already spread to every district in the country. There is too much focus on half-arsed lockdowns that don't work and too little on containing the spread.

It's a profession like any else and should be subject to the same standards and laws.

All doctors aren't created equal and some f**k up too. You need recourse for that.

Americans are litigious and sue over everything. Doctors are no exception.

You need recourse of course. Just not in a consumer court. That's for cases when you are cheated when buying particular product or service. If doctors commit criminal negligience, that should be subject to criminal proceedings.

Btw, you can't sue government hospital doctors in a consumer court.

So true....It's so short sighted to sue just because you can.

Doctors shouldn't even be considered under the Consumer Protection Act. They shouldn't be treated like businesses. One consequence of this (as I've learnt after a talk to a doctor) is that they may see their own profession as a business and patients as customers.

Ahh yes suing medics is such a cool idea.

All it does is increase the cost of healthcare. If a doctor is scared of making the wrong diagnosis he'll order every test possible on the planet. For every decision the onus will be on the patient, because the the doctor is too scared to choose what is best for the patient.

It is one of the reasons why healthcare in the usa is so expensive. People sue over the smallest things. Every thing is the business' (or in this case, doctor's) liabilty. There is also an arms race between insurance companies and doctors. Insurance companies want to pay as little as possible, so doctors try to inflate bills as much as they can. There is also added costs of hospitals for hiring accountants, lawyers, etc. Too much admin overhead costs and too little going into the actual healthcare (salries of doctors, nurses, medical equipment).

Also just the idea of suing doctors in consumer courts is so wrong. Patients aren't customers.

the slots for 18+ people getting within a flash. is there some app being used to book just like how flash sales are snagged by people?

It is possible someone maybe using bots on desktops. People used to do that with IRCTC tatkal bookings.

Lol. You think with population of 1.4b and per capita income of less than Bangladesh we can just give everything free.

And despite having world's biggest public Healthcare program, ayushman Bharat.

Just the money saved from cutting DA of central govt. employees was more than what a full vaccination programme covering every single Indian would have cost. The country might be poor, but its not like the government doesn't have the money. The annual budget this year was 35 lakh crores. Not even 10 percent of that is allocated to healthcare, in a year when healthcare should have been the biggest concern.

The cost of handling wave after wave and repeated lockdowns is far more than what it'd cost to just give a 150 Rs injection to everyone.

  7. ITC has shown consistent growth in annual profits over the last decade with the exception of 2020-21 (due to lockdowns and cigarette sales taking a hit).

The reason its share price won't go up is because ITC keeps diluting the stock by issuing new shares. I also have a few shares and am looking to buy some more, because it is gives good dividends but it's a very small part of my portfolio.

Also, the other day I sold all my holdings of Graphite (my favourite stock) at 711 which I had purchased over the last 2-3 years for avg. price of 284. Instant regret as the share price continued to rise and hit 730+ today. :wallbash: Rookie mistake, I know.

So government employees are sad about not getting a pay hike in the middle of a pandemic. :roflroll:

    That's rich.

We don't get massive salaries or pay hikes, even a promotion is 3% increment. You might change a job or get a promotion and get a 50% pay hike immediately. It'll take me 5-6 years of service to get that. As far as I'm concerned it is a pay cut, not a stoppage of a pay hike.

Mind you, I would have gladly foregone this money if govt. had used it to give benefits back to the people.

    Sorry but what is DA?

It is dearness allowance, which is changed (mostly increased) every 6 months to cover rising costs due to inflation. Govt. employees get only 3% salary raise every year so DA is the main source of pay growth.

DA is 17% since July 2019, as it has been frozen since January 2020. If we go by the CPI (consumer price inflation index) based on which DA is calculated, DA should have been 27% by now.

So it's a 4-8% salary cut every month for 18 months.

I don't know the total number but my mom is losing out on around 20k/month and dad around 30k/month since the DA froze.

That's the money they fully deserve because Govt. offices were never fully shut down.

Even now the offices are open with rotating attendance.

I don't see any politician taking a cut in their salary especially when they dodge almost all of the tax.

Even I had to go to office after September last year, and even do field work. I don't even think DA will be restored in July. They might extend freeze for 6 more months.

  11. 3 minutes ago, KunjanPSD said:

So true. On top of that they freezed DA.

That's lakhs of money which they are looting out of the pockets.

Did a calculation on lost income and it came out to more than 1 month salary. I would have gladly foregone this income (and more) if government could have given people something in return. Free Covid treatment and vaccinations for all. But they didn't do that also. So many people lost their life savings or had to go into debt just because they got covid. The total savings from DA freeze was about 36000 crores, which would have been enough to vaccinate the whole country.

At least I managed to avail Mahatma Phule scheme for mother-in-law's treatment last year.

I can't help but think it was engineered. Increase the price and then reduce it for publicity. Although it is indeed a lot cheaper than Covaxin.

This is a classic salesman move. He still gets a higher margin than the original price at which he was selling to the centre while pretending to be doing something favourable to us. Good on him for taking that early gamble to start production but his actions resemble that of a capitalist, not a philanthropist.

Most of the corporates are vaccinating their employees. I would recommend getting vaccinated there as it will be well managed and will not have crowding. I am waiting for my company to make such an announcement.

Meanwhile central government has left their employees to dry. Our office sent us notices to get ourselves vaccinated at the earliest while they do nothing to help. They cut 5400 Rs from my salary every year just for CGHS and I can't even use it properly because it isn't available in Dombivli. Now state govt. has announced free vaccination for my age group so I'm hoping I can get from there.

Any news on above 18 vaccinations?!?

are they using the same centres as the one set up for above 45?!?

BMC has announced that those in 18-45 agr group would have only private centres for vaccination. So no vaccines for 18-45 year olds in Mumbai. Not sure what the status is for rest of Maharashtra.

The whole vaccination process for 18-45 group in Maharashtra will cost only Rs 2000 crores, and less than Rs 1000 crores if SII stops profiteering and reduces prices. For whole of India, it should be in the Rs 10000 crore range.

I agree with many points but states themselves have done a lot of hanky panky. But best is yet to come when they will be buying vaxx at much higher price than center and pocket handsome commissions.

Then they will blackmarket these vaxx to citizens and extort even more.

Center's biggest problem was that they didn't device a cohesive statergy regarding distribution, they should've set monthly allocation to states wrto the population, Chalk out a roadmap for delivery. In stead Modi gave more to non-BJP ruled states, who started throwing tantrums as sh*t hit the ceiling.

Center's and BJP as a political party have fked up so bad that they wouldn't able to recover from bad PR.

But overall, India is fked. 2021 is gone too and probably going to be worse than how 2020 was.

States have also failed, no doubt. There has been corruption and general incompetency, failure to forsee and prepare for the 2nd wave.

But when they are now making demands to the centre, they aren't "throwing a tantrum". They genuinely need all the help they can get, but centre is too busy playing games. Centre never stopped being responsible for the people of Maharashtra, Rajasthan or any other Indian state, but they act like it's not their problem anymore.
