That phone name generator is absolutely epic.

Just read this, regarding ICS AOSP ROM's for the SGS2.
http://knowmydroid.com/blog/samsung-galaxy-s2-android-4-ice-cream-sandwich-rom-status-update
If the ROM devs are waiting for an ICS firmware leak by Samsung.. well, the situation is bad. Let's see if the CM folks can do anything about this.

Galaxy Nexus with Ice Cream Sandwich. Makes for a fantastic phone.

-
GSM or verizon?
GSM! Imported through expansys-usa.com, for $729.
-
Congrats. How is battery backup?
I will test it for a few days and report back. So far, I'm estimating around 3-4 hours of screen/display usage time. Standby time will be harder to gauge, since I'll be playing with it often.
-
Finally received the Galaxy Nexus. Fantastic phone, no complaints so far. The size is borderline comfortable, but the screen is the best I've ever seen. Slightly better than the Rezound, colors are more vibrant.
And of course, the software is what sets this phone apart. ICS is freaking awesome!

Sorry for not resizing them!

Hahaha that's hilarious! Also, why are you in the newspaper?

The Yamaha DAC in the Galaxy S2 is actually implemented poorly. At the driver level there were a lot of defects which couldn't be corrected, according to Supercurio who wrote that piece for AnandTech. Thus the SGS2 had poor Sound Quality, which was a disappointment for some people, especially those who upgraded from their Voodoo'd SGS.
But, it seems that the same DAC in the Galaxy Note is better implemented, since a lot of people are saying that the Sound Quality of the Note is better than the SGS2. Maybe MT can try out the two as well and report back.
Also, it's not necessary that a music player will sound better than a phone (although obviously this is generally the case). It's just that the Zune uses better hardware which obviously outputs better sound.
Neo, you will have to wait a while for the Galaxy Nexus to release officially, and the grey prices are really high, in the iPhone 4S range, last I checked.
Also, due to the extremely high rate of exchange for the rupee, grey market prices/imports are not going to be cheap..
-
Are you sure? Most of the premium end phones use discrete DACs. OMAP4 in itself doesn't have a good DAC but the companion discrete TI chips, if used, would be good. But I'm not sure if there is a comparison done to the Yamaha DAC found in the I9100
According to the TI docs, the OMAP4 on the Galaxy Nexus comes with the TWL6040(DAC)/6030(power management) chip. Since TI bought Burr Brown quite a while back, I'm sure those are Burr Brown chips at heart. But yeah, these chips are companion IC's, not part of the SoC as such. The iFixit teardown confirms the presence of these companion IC's.
I haven't had the opportunity to try out the Galaxy Nexus myself, (damn you Expansys-USA), but the reception regarding the same on both XDA and Head-Fi have been really good. Infact, people think it's similar/better/slightly worse than the Wolfson in the Galaxy S/Nexus S, which is great news.

There are a few other good posts too among the trolling.

Also, after my day long research, following is the summary of differences between I9100G and I9100:
1. I9100G is having slower, much slower GPU. The GPU is same as Galaxy S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, Motorola Razr, LG Optimus 3D.
2. I9100G is having CPU of 1008 Mhz locked frequency as compared to 1.2 Ghz of I9100. This is evident from the benchmarks and spec sheet on Texas Instruments site. The 1.2 Ghz is barely touched under maximum stress. Though users have reported that 1.2Ghz is available in 2.3.5 official Samsung update.
Corrections.
i9100G has the OMAP4430, which has the SGX540 @ 300Mhz. Same as the RAZR, Optimus 3D. SGS and Nexus S have the same GPU, on an inferior chip, clocked at 200Mhz. Galaxy Nexus has the OMAP4460, which has the SGX540 clocked @ 384Mhz.
The OMAP4430 has a default CPU speed of 1/1.2Ghz. The OMAP4460 has a default CPU speed of 1.5Ghz, downclocked to 1.2Ghz in the Galaxy Nexus.
Exynos has a similar CPU compared to the OMAP, but a stronger GPU.
Another note, the OMAP4 series has a MUCH better DAC, (TI bought Burr Brown, and Burr Brown makes some of the best audio chips), thus much better Sound Quality. If this matters to you, that is.
In other news, I'm still waiting for (kola)Veri-zon to put a final date on and ship the bloody G-Nex

I will never look at the KolaVeri Zon Wireless name in the way I used to before!

-
The specs of the 9100G are very similar to the Galaxy Nexus (apart from the screen resolution). I think it'll get ICS ports before the Exynos powered 9100.
Exynos powered i91000 already has ICS ports. Most of the stuff working that too. i9100G might have similar specs to the Galaxy Nexus, but it means squat if there are no developers willing to support it/supporting it.
-
This is the 1st I've heard of this variant.

The OMAP4430 is a decent chip, but yeah, not as good as the OMAP 4460 or the Exynos 4210.

Thanks for pointing to correct thread there were just too many CM threads so could not figure out which one , also how to apply the kernels the thread just dont mention anything they just say "If you don't know how to flash then this is not for you. " which for me is WTF if you are not going to tell it how would someone do it.
For flashing the kernel, you boot into the recovery. Wipe Dalvik-Cache (not necessary though), and just choose the zip and flash it. In case of that Bali kernel, you'll have to flash two .zip files, first the kernel cleanup file, and the actual kernel itself.

Thanks , I heard not many people are happy with CM7 or MIUI , also Simple Honey does it gives a better battery life ? The tutorials on xda are horrible they assume everything
I can't find the Simple Honey ROM thread in the 1st 2 pages of the Vibrant Dev Section.
My recommendation is to flash CM7.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297792) and stick with it till a stable release of ICS is out.
A friend of mine who has a Vibrant, (which I sold to him, with CM7 flashed) is very happy with his phone. MIUI is also good, but it's known to drain the battery at a much faster rate.
Alternatively, you can try and flash the latest nightly, but it won't be as stable or might not give you the best battery life.
I would suggest sticking with the stock CM7 kernel. Or you can try alternative kernels such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1304037 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1181167
You should be able to change the speeds in Settings, under CyanogenMod settings menu. Stick to stock speeds, or bump up to 1.2Ghz if you want. Don't go any further. Also, no need to install any CPU tuning app from the market.

dude, superfag replied.

I believe the price is 8k.
Yeah, even performance wise, the Dell/ZTE is your best option. Later models have 256MB, but firmware locked. You can unlock the full RAM with a bit of fiddling. Why they did so, is a complete mystery.
-
Guys i need help on installing a ROM on Samsung Vibrant currently its on Trigger 2.2 it was bought from us and unlocked.Which ROM's do you guys recommend ? Do i need to unlock the phone if i go back to stock i.e 2.1 I heard Simple Honey , CM7 and MUI ROM's are quite good for Vibrant
Stick to CM7 or MIUI. Although CM7 will give you better battery life, and now it has Voodoo modifications integrated.
If the phone is working on Indian carriers without any issues, it's already unlocked. No need to worry about it again.
Just remember to follow the instructions to the letter, and you'll be fine.

-
Guys I need an answer ASAP as I'll be going out and might buy a phone tomorrow.
Thanks in advance

It's a decent phone for the price. The higher resolution does help. About the camera, all those phones are average, I would say.
-
And T-Mo.
Why would I want my phone to work in India if I'm gonna use it in the US the whole damn time? I'm not going home this December (it's Vegas, Colorado, Arizona and California for 2 weeks
) and the most likely date I'll be going home for a few months will be AFTER December next year before I begin working and that too for a few months. I think my Nexus S should be able to handle those few months. But yes, being on a GSM carrier with an unlocked phone gives you much more flexibility if you want to use it when traveling.Ah, then it's a different situation altogether.
I'll be going home during the breaks, (maybe not next summer), so CDMA phones are out of the question for me. Not to mention, Sprint service sucks and VZW is too expensive.
-
And with T-Mo going the AT&T way soon (goddamn takeover) , switching to Verizon might end up being the only option. I don't get why the carriers get to decide whether we need or don't need data, and pricing 2gb at $30 dollar a month
(and forcing u to take data)Why? If you want your phone to work in India, AT&T is the only option.
-
Which player to use for mkv I tried Rockplayer , Mobo and Dice all of them have issues playing especially the sound.
If you're using DicePlayer, when playing MKV's, long press and select the software player. It should work fine then. That's what I do.
-
Why does only Verizon get all the big boys. I thought ATnT was just as powerful n big
Not as big or powerful. Close though.
AT&T does have a nice portfolio, but VZW is easily the best this holiday season, especially since they're carrying the Galaxy Nexus.
Sprint and T-Mo are falling behind now.
-
It might be possible that VZW is delaying the launch as much as possible to give more selling time to the RAZR and the Rezound. After all, those phones carry VZW bloatware and code. -.-
