It's doing a lot of novel things in gaming for good story telling. It plays for over 25 in game years that lead to very natural character growth and development.
Zero "shocking moment"s or transparent "walking sections for character development". Just effective writing all around. Short and to the point.

This is Assassin's Creed chosen list I presume.
Pentiment I played while watching Breaking Bad on the side, and I had no issues in coping with story telling, writing etc.
Playing Guardian of the Galaxy right now which was front runner last year, and writing/ story telling is just bizarre outside a few cool and extremely funny moments.

Pentiment is in more top 10 lists this year than GOW: R.
I wouldn't be surprised if it wins more awards.
I don't track all of them, but case in point, Wired GOTY is Pentiment/ Horizon FW joint award.

Pentiment is not on list, perhaps due to limited slots.
If you want good writing, story telling, that's the way to go.
From any standards, not "game story is supposed to be sub par standards".

Had my first session with scam gang yesterday.
I had a couple of matches with randoms before that, not nearly as much fun.
Team work is must in this game to be enjoyable.

It's not for everyone, but if you enjoy it will be great.
It has RPG structure that Obsidian puts in their games, that can make big changes to game world depending on choices you make.

Pentament 9Pentiment is definitely worth it.
It does a lot of things I have never seen in games.
Crafts a compelling narrative with just talking to village peasants. Much harder to do than going all out Marvel with your story.
Sure it has murder mystery but that's like 20% of the game.
Truly talented, their writing team.

I only buy 1-2 games per year day 1. Stuff like Elden Ring.

Most mainstream outlets are so predictable, their GOTY isn't interesting at all.
No idea why popularity of outlet is so important. I know handful of outlets, most of them are unknown to me.

Huge hit. Usually games like fifa, Fortnite etc make it to this list.
