Dear all-knowing sirji, don't judge without knowing what other offers I had. Yes, it was a fulltime job offer. Obviously there were other factors involved - apart from the Apple-mania I can't take at work. I don't feel the need to drive myself mad and work my a*s off 7 days a week with high base but low salary raises and (yeah, I talked to several people who work there fulltime) in a physical design role when I had another logical design offer from Intel paying me some 2-3k less effectively but with much better working conditions (so I can have a life too) and a higher relocation package and higher raises. Consider also that I have to work in a company for quite a number of years once I start the GC process.
They don't exactly throw bonuses or stocks at the junior engineers at Apple either each time the company has a record quarter. Perhaps getting paid more money to live in expensive-Cupertino and claiming to be happy at a (in your mind) prestigious company is the only measure you go by, but stop judging.
So please :

For your reference I've had seniors at Georgia Tech who turned down verification roles from Apple to join in design roles at places like Juniper Networks.
Not to crap the Jokes thread but to answer your query I got asked what phone I used. This was in the 5th or 6th interview I had onsite. (8 interviews total 9am to 5.30pm)
Obviously I went to One Infinite Loop with a Galaxy Nexus in my pocket
and I said "Why is that relevant". He was like "No, it's ok, we just wanted to know what you prefer". I take out the phone and he says "Oh we make stuff that people like to use here, not stuff like that one you have which sucks battery and has a big a*s screen you can't fit in your pocket".The chrome example was something a senior of mine in the processor verification team regularly encounters (met her during the lunch break there). Another one has to work from 9am to 11pm most days and works 6 days most weeks. These examples are often repeated and I don't think that's a sign of a company that treats its employees all that well (you don't find them but you do find Qualcomm, Intel, Microsoft in the top 100 best companies to work for list). Sure, if I got a role that I really really want I would consider but not in this case.
err ok.. so say so if you rejected the offer due to other reasons and not because "you get strange looks if you use something other than apple".
-
I was being serious man. I interviewed with Apple at Cupertino and then turned down a job offer from them. Obviously cos I asked people who I knew were working there how it was day-to-day. Of course they don't fire you but you get strange looks and disparaging comments if you use Chrome instead of Safari or have a WP or Android phone.
I'd say you are an idiot if you seriously did that (unless it was an internship offer and not a "job" offer)

Watched that film on a really long flight and barely made it through without falling asleep. Her face is (especially her eyes are) permanently stuck in some silly expression throughout the length of the film. Plus, she starred in the Twilight series, which means she starts at a score of -10/10 in my book even before the movie begins

i watched it as well on the long haul back to home this weekend..and man was it boring..Only good thing was that I fast fwd through it in under 45 minutes once I knew how it was going to be..

I am happy with my phone, and no hurry to make it super fast etc... It's a expensive gadget for me, and don't want to risk..
Plus have seen people with custom rom etc complaining issues also...
I agree..I don't see why people gang up on folks not installing custom ROMs. Even I don't flash any custom ROMs right now. Lived with stock nexus one for almost 2.5 years and now a month with the stock GN. If you are happy with the stock ROM, then so be it. And that's the benefit of Android that you can do crazy ton of stuff without flashing custom ROMs.

Google Wallet PINs May Be Vulnerable on Rooted Devices
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/02/08/report-google-wallet-pins-may-be-vulnerable-on-rooted-devices/
I am planning to buy Cut the Rope,TDKR and GTA from Play Store....can't take risk :|
I just can't stop playing Cut the Rope (demo version)..It's simply amazing

That "pin" is for people using "Wallet" used for storing cc info that they can then use for paying at places other than play store.. It is not even available in India so you are safe..

Insidious
Yeah, watched it already sometime back and it was awesome..
Any more horror recommendations?

Please recommend some really good horror movies. And I mean horror, not gore. The creepy ones that scare the sh*t outta you (and no paranormal activity types too please).

Think 4.1 custom roms will start coming by end august - atleast the stable ones u can use as your daily use rom.
Look at ICS on tablets and look at JellyB on the this 7" Nexus tablet. Different UI, notifications layout etc. The ICS UI is designed keeping a landscape mode in mind for tablets. But this nexus tab is being marketed and was demo'ed in the keynote as portrait device. Look at the notifications. not like the ICS tablet notifications. JB tablet notifications go back on top where u swipe down. That is what i was trying to say. The original HC, ICS tablet idea seems to put in the back-burner by Google.
iPad developers designed the same apps that have different designs for the iPhone and iPad (Check tweetbot, or the Linkedin iPad app etc) iPad ones make use of the extra screen to show more information or present information in a layout that suits the big display. Check twitter for Android. That is a classic example of a shitty app which has not been updated to make use of extra space and is just enlarged phone version. I know lot of ICS apps have now designed seperate designs for tablets but will those same work on this Nexus 7? Superfrag who is at I/O tells me it chooses the phone mode of the app.
The Android app design paradigm is a bit different than Apple's. I haven't looked into iOS app design much but I think you need to redo a lot of things and essentially create a separate version of your app for the iPad v/s the iPhone. For Android, the "tablet mode" essentially boils down to signalling one thing to the developer --> "You have more screen real estate available to be used". Now, what Android does is two things with respect to this:
1. Allow developers to use different resources for different screen sizes/densities
2. Fragments
The first point is already used by devs even when they are designing only for phones. 2nd point ensures that whatever the devs design for phones scales to tablet mode as well. So, same code works in two modes. (e.g. look at how a mail app works. When in phone mode or portrait orientation on a tablet, the device shows only the current mail but when you go to tablet mode, it shows another pane on the side with a list of other emails, etc).
I believe google might have chosen to use phone mode by default on N7 because of the lesser screen size. Even while in landscape mode, the horizontal space is <= a full size tab in portrait mode. But this doesn't mean that devs will stop making "tablet apps". Because the same app that they design for phone using above two principles will automatically scale to tablet modes. Anyways, it remains to be seen how it pans out.
Why google chose to go with a 7" tablet instead of 10.1 is pretty clear. They had two targets in mind:
1. Lower price point to fuel the adoption of android tablets. (No one in general public is going to say it is working in phone mode. No one says that about kindle fire too. They will just say what an awesome and cheap "tablet" N7 is)
2. Compete with amazon
So, >10" tabs aren't going out.

So iphone 4s sells at 45k, and people throng to buy it... but S3 sells at 38k and there's so much of hatred at the price? I feel for this config, 38k is justified... agreed, plasticky feel and all, but if s3 is anything like my note, it's a dream phone.
I don't think people lined up to buy the 4S in India at that price anywhere. Everyone was unpleasantly surprised when it launched at that price. In fact, S3 would still sell much more than 4S did in India.
Fact is >30k is bad for any smartphone in India, be it from Apple or HTC or Samsung. People have slightly come to terms with >30k over last couple of years but now >35k is the new trend for premium phones which will take some time for people to get used to.

^^ The GPU in S3 is clocked much higher than Note/S2
