  1. hardware issues are nothing new with Dell but they make it up with their top notch after service . but the golden days are only until you are covered under warranty or willing to shell out 10k for an extension . good part is you get free part replacement on site no questions asked ... god i wish i should have taken the 3yr warranty does not seem that expensive now compared to yearly renewals :(

had my mobo replaced once optical drive replaced twice and the entire outer plastic shell once ... golden days :samui:

coming back to the question ... Dust under Touchpad buttons , how to clean ?

Agree their AFS is damn good, but damn expensive too :P .. But then one of my friends has a HP lappy (14 incher, bought from Gulf) and his MB went kaput. So we went to this dealer & he suggested taking a 3 year AFS for 5.5k wherein we got the MB covered & replaced. It wasn't on site AFS, but pretty neat nonetheless. And yes, no questions asked. Still Dell gives warranty against spills & drips & sledgehammers & drops & every damn thing, so it definitely has an edge under CompleteCover (or CompleteCare ?), but we shouldn't be needing warranty in the 1st place should we ? :harhar:

And for cleaning the touchpad, you will have to dis-assemble the lappy. Until you have some experience in this, I would strongly advice against it. :|

  2. such concern :naughty:

    bad news- my ps3 died...

more bad news- cant even go for a replacement now (not financially stable to go for this expense now)

more more bad news- wont be gaming atleast this year...maybe next year i could buy/replace a new ps3..not sure

more more more bad news- wont be able to play with my clan in kz3

    :(

    Facccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkk !.. :(:console:

  3. Lol.. how has that anything to do with Dell!

    Dust accumulation.. cmon man!

Well it's just me & Dell. Have seen 10.. frigging 10 Dell laptops (not mine.. different friends who went with Dell just because everybody was buying them) break down within 3 months.. Some had trackpad problems, others had loose hinges, still others display issues, kaput motherboards etc etc. Maybe it's just me & Dell, but I wouldn't buy any of their's even if they were the last company running :| ..

I still remember the horror on my face after seeing Dell Studio when it was launched. I mean that thing was fugly, and it'as supposed to be a flagship product.

I aint saying other brands don't have issues, but not as much as Dell. One of my seniors uses an Acer & while I feel the build quality is downright pathetic, he never had any problems with it whatsoever since buying it. Personally been using a HP since early 2007 & apart from the battery going bonkers (due to a fault of my own), never had any issues with it.. And I treat it like hell nowadays just so that it goes down & I can get a new one ! :P

  4. My laptop's left click does not feel right , seems like there is dust accumulation obstructing the press ... on the brighter side it's responding OK :fear:

how do i clean the dust underneath without dismantling it ? :(

    I have a Dell XPS M1330

    Haven't seen crappier laptops than Dell's. :|

  5. I've got one running Win7 Starter [belch] and the other running Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Now the question I have is that if I switch to something like Windows XP, is there an Atom or AMD processor driver I can use with the operating system to still maximize my use of Pinetrail? Otherwise the battery just becomes another regular batt because the processor isn't really being used by the OS optimally? I don't mind switching either netbook over to the other OS, the Ubuntu one gets more facetime anyways but I want to put VS Express on the other laptop without having too much in the form of bells and whistles running on it. Strictly for small code fixes during presentations etc.

I don't think there's any particular driver for the processor as such but Win XP does a commendable job as a netbook OS. On the HP Mini, it easily gave 6 hours+ of life on a 6 cell battery. More important than the processor driver is how the other components use power. A look at Toshiba's custom optimization software for their lappies & netbooks leaves every other brand in the dust. Their cells easily clock 10 hours+ in real world scenario. I think Asus has a similar software for their line of netbooks (not sure though).

Going with Win XP is a pretty good option. A similar setup with Win 7 Starter gave me 45 mins of less battery life, plus it'as comparatively slower too.

Haven't used Ubuntu NR, but even Jolicloud is awesome ! Though one would miss the advanced functionalities of Windows given we don't have high broadband speeds here.

Edit: You can also try netbooks with ULV processors for even greater battery life but having used them for a couple of hours, I found it to be veryyyyy slowwwww ! :|

  6. Eye opening read !

    An excerpt:

A stunning exposure on Sonia Gandhi’s secret billions in Swiss banks came, surprisingly, from Switzerland itself, where the world’s corrupt stash away their booty. In its issue of November 19, 1991, Schweizer Illustrierte, the most popular magazine of Switzerland, did an exposé of over a dozen politicians of the third world, including Rajiv Gandhi, who had stashed away their bribe monies in Swiss banks. Schweizer Illustrierte, not a rag, sells some 2,15,000 copies and has a readership of 9,17,000 — almost a sixth of Swiss adult population. Citing the newly opened KGB records, the magazine reported ‘that Sonia Gandhi the widow of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was controlling secret account with 2.5 billion Swiss Francs (equal to $2.2 billion) in her minor son’s name’. The $2.2 billion account must have existed from before June 1988 when Rahul Gandhi attained majority. The loot in today’s rupee value equals almost Rs 10,000 crore. Swiss banks invest and multiply the clients’ monies, not keep them buried. Had it been invested in safe long-term securities, the $.2.2 billion bribe would have multiplied to $9.41 billion (Rs 42,345 crore) by 2009. If it had been put in US stocks, it would have swelled to $12.97 billion (Rs 58,365 crore). If, as most likely, it were invested in long-term bonds and stocks as 50:50, it would have grown to $11.19 billion (Rs 50,355 crore). Before the global financial meltdown in 2008, the $2.2 billion bribes in stocks would have peaked at $18.66 billion (Rs 83,900 crore). By any calculation the present size of the $2.2 billion secret funds of the family in Swiss banks seems huge — anywhere between Rs 43,000 plus to some Rs 84,000 crore!

World without Superman was the weakest of the Doomsday series. I thought Hal Jordan's funeral was much better. Turbulence is fun.

Most people think life sucks (true), and then you die (fact of life). Not me. I beg to differ. I think life sucks, then you get cancer (bad), then your dog dies (bad), your wife leaves you (good), the cancer goes into remission (good), you get a new dog (good), you get remarried (bad), you owe ten million dollars in medical bills (bad) but you work hard for thirty five years (bad) and you pay it back (good) and then one day you have a massive stroke (bad), your whole right side is paralyzed (bad), you have to limp along the streets (bad) and speak out of the left side of your mouth (bad) and drool (bad) but you go into rehabilitation (good) and regain the power to walk (good) and the power to talk (good) and then one day you step off a curb at Sixty-seventh Street, and BANG you get hit by a city bus and then you die (good). Maybe"
