  1. I tried MIUI on S2. Neat and tidy. But the problem is the closed nature of the ROM, much like iOS. On android one should be given an option whether to use app drawer or not and etc atleast for the basic UI.

CM9 and its derivatives FTW. :giggle:

^ Read my other post, there are workarounds.

Obviously, MiUI was developed to imitate iOS because few things Android couldnt get right and OEMs didnt bother to improve. iOS is designed with keeping both aesthetics and high user-friendliness in mind.

    Lets take a few examples:

    To delete an app on

    iOS

Long press any app icon, click the x mark to delete any app

    Android stock

Press menu key, select edit, select the app you want to delete

Which one is better user experience?

Now try making a folder on android and then on iOS.

Even the notifications dropdown which iOS apparently 'stole' from android looks cleaner on iOS.

And there are many things like this, try taking screenshots on a samsung, 40% of times you will end up suspending the screen, 40% of time you will make task manager popped up. Now see all these in Miui, done perfectly :)

I will probably never get a better chance to do this, so let me say that samsung has done absolutely nothing in UI. Look at those messages screen, it looks like done by a 6 yr old boy using visual basic forms. I am glad that MIUI and CWM exists, its very hard to put up with crap they load in stock.

  2. If you have the original apk then there shouldn't be any problems. Delete the old apk first and then follow the procedure. If it still doesn't work then I'll post an update zip for you.

EDIT - You may need to delete the Settings.odex file!

Not working man. Please post the update.zip

  3. You can't install settings.apk -- you have to push it to /system.

    1. Paste the original settings.apk in /system (thus overwriting the old apk) using an app like Root Explorer or Root Browser

    2. Change the permissions to rw- r-- r--

    3. Reboot phone

Yes I did the push, but its not working. :-/

    I am on LP8

  4. HELP

So I updated Note's settings.apk with the S3 mod, but its crashing in About Phone screen and slow in general, on top of that the status bar has disappeared.

But I'm not able to go back to original settings, I have the backup (from system/app) of the original APK but it says, App isn't installed.

Edit: I wanted to ask in the same thread, but XDA is run by biggest idiots on this planet, can't post before I spam somewhere and get post count to 30 or something.

  5. No, I've used both GB and ICS MIUI on devices other than Note. I love the Settings tabs and the toggles, but the launcher with all icons on desktop is a major putdown. I always used a third party launcher with MIUI. Plus it is a battery hog.

So basically you hated it for not having the appdrawer, its the same reason I love it. :)

But there are workarounds for this, HERE.

Battery hog? well with Siyah it always gave me few hrs more than stock.

But what I love(d) most about MIUI is the memory/app management, it used to have very few in memory and everything could be directly terminated just by pressing and holding the Back key. On phones, you don't want task managers, app watchers and what not....the OS should do it well. iPhone does this part in the best way possible, but I was pleased with the way it is done in MIUI.

  6. -1 (no, that is not a typo).

I guess you are basing your opinion on ICS-MIUI on the Note, which is nowhere close to real MIUI experience like you have on S2.

I think Siyah kernel with GB-MIUI is pretty awesome. I wouldn't mind at all if it comes as stock.

  7. Its including Case mate case. but now the prices have gone up. due to increase in dollar price. The day i bought the prices shooted up by 2k .Now its around 38k.. it was 35,500+1500 for the case so 37.

No way in hell it can get shot up. Not this week for sure. S3 sales will push the bugger down to 30-32k. Shopkeepers are probably maal nikaal rahe hai...jaldi jaldi.

S3 manages to edge out only cuz the sexy pebble blue casing. white, i think HTC looks better.

    You got trolled.

  8. Based on the development left for the game he says it is very unlikely that it'll release this year.

Tell your friend to make it happen. :P

On a serious note, he shouldnt be letting such info out, it will sound stupid to most but its kinda harmful to the company.

  9. So mohit must be really pissed, not even single game he is waiting for, is releasing this year. Though I thought this will make it, given the ND's amazing track record.

So the year gonna belong to ubi, Farcry and AC are gonna sail them through. I still like to have GTA in the mix..it will make the things perfect.

  10. And opened up shop? I know R* outsources to Technicolor, but I don't think they've set up an office per se?

Yeah, I was surprised too. But its kinda like Red Octane thing.

  11. App drawer gotta go, its archaic.

Obviously, miui launcher had focus to mimic ios, with excellent transition and theming options it comes with, I dont see any wrong there, when you get the best of both worlds.

The notification bar is still very cluttered on Android, need a fix there too.

  12. ^ only for ICS.

Installed MIUIv4. The recovery option is there in Update app in tools folder :wallbash: No need to install siyah.

Which rom? I found WIUI GB the best MIUI rom on S2. pretty solid as far as FCs are concerned and good battery life. MIUI ICS always lagged for me but its getting updated more often, i believe.

Langthang's rom was kickass too but he stopped.

I greatly miss MIUI, need official port with themes for note. :(

  13. I think R* gonna troll everyone before E3.

Btw, they have opened up their shop in Bangalore, not sure what they are doing there. Its been close to six months but no news about it.
