No he is not retarded, just ill-informed, this phenomenon happens because of jetstreams, which flow from West to East and thus indeed increase time of airtravel when a aeroplane is travelling from East to West. What I got me thinking is that why isn't jetstreams flowing from East to West, to align with earth's rotation....
