  1. JRD was a pioneer in so many ways... for a huge half-Indian half-French industrialist who was born in Paris, he gave so much back to India and developed industry here to such an extent. Pity our political leaders haven't done as much as this man who could very well have wasted his wealth frivolously.

Amazing that he was so humble as to wait for an employee at one his many factories after office hours. And sudha murthy seems to come from a family of high achievers, her brother is one of the only living scientists from India (only 10 of those around) to be a Fellow of the Royal Society, London, a former IITian (who did his further studies UC Berkeley) and professor at Caltech. So too her brother in law, another former IITian. And I suppose nothing needs to be said about Narayana Murthy, another very humble industrialist (who Tata, indirectly, helped start his company - seeing how Sudha Murthy's savings were instrumental in it) .... sadly fewer of these guys around these days and more of the Vijay Mallya - types and their retard sons...

  2. so if it's not good and not that gr8, where doe€s this game lie? below average or sucky?

Leave him be.. he prefers just posting sales info alone on halo- reach threads... not much else of note that he does.

  3. ^y dont u take a simple backup in vista itself onto ur external hdd n then later restore it . u can try it with a pendrive (pendrive onto ur external hdd) or something

it's not a feature found in Vista Home Premium. Only in Ultimate and professional (or business or enterprise or whatever)

  4. Acronis true image!!

Yes !!.. DriveImage XL is an awesomesauce freeware !!.. Many times better than most commerical tools :)

The tutorials lists everything to the T. Should work perfectly !! :D

Thank you both. I guess I'll go with Driveimage since it's free and supposedly works great.

  5. I'm thinking about handing in my ASUS laptop (an N50-VN C1S) for service. Problem with the screen. Should still be under the 2 year global warranty.

Anyway, the issue here is that I want to back up the entire HDD (as in a clone image) for insurance, in case they decide to do a full-format plus OS reinstall (that too using their bloated ASUS crap filled backup section).

If they do do such a thing to piss me off and make my life difficult, I want to be able to restore the image to my hard disk on the laptop again. As it was before, with the same partition and folder structure and everything. What I have at hand is the aforementioned ASUS notebook with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on it, and an external hard disk I won for free from Seagate with 1 TB free. (931MB actual or whatever).

What tool would be apt for this operation? DriveImage XML ? http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial160.html --> Would this work?

Any other suggestions? Please shoot.. and as soon as u can.

  7. ^^ oh yeah forgot.. rooting is needed also for extreme customization and theming..

@gaurav: It depends on the custom rom scene for any given device and what you are seeking to get from them..The custom rom scene is the best for N1 out there and as weird it may sound, I still haven't rooted. That is the best part of Android that you do not absolutely "need" rooting (except maybe onold devices where you are not getting updates or galaxy devices or where there are some issues that need rooting to be solved)..

No way! :eyepop: You, of all people!

  8. Yes you are wrong. There are other methods of safe sex too you condom cocker :ack::chair:

    Was jk !!..

But yes, there def are more ways for safe sex.. Dunno about rooting though ! :P

No there ain't.. not unless you want to catch something really scary :samui:

I have done much research into this (Theory of course, not practicals as far as hookers go ;) ) and come out with the universally known conclusion "Don't be silly, protect your willy" :P

@snake: You need root if you want to do anything out of the below:

    - Uninstall default apps

    - Apply custom ROMs or any special kernels or apply any fixes that require root

    - Use the phone like a linux machine

    - And since you are on 2.1, if you want to have usb/wi-fi tethering

Now this would be a very good reason. Don't know about the Wildfire, but atleast with the SGS and other Android phones, there seem to be new ROMs flying forth every few weeks. If I were you, I'd root just to try each one out.

  9. Nope. The usual suspects didnt have it.

    Ah, that's sad.

Sold off some of my recent loot by the way, the Flip Ultra HD and the iPod touch 8gb (both sealed and new) for around Rs. 15k total :D

im actually very impressed...was stuck with S40s and S60 for a long time

    And I still am! :(

Congrats on the new phone! :good:

"The God of IVG has abandoned me...Now there is no hope!!!!"

    * and Snake cast himself off the highest peak of all IVG-Land...3 yrs of posting....3 yrs of irritating the hell outta everyone, his days finally came to an end *

Nooooooooooooooooo..... who shall now be God of the Babe Thread!

  10. Secure isnt insurance. It has no NCB clause. Lets take the discussion to another medium and not get too off-topic :). He loves and babies his car and is no wild rich dad's kid.

C63, nice. Can a fellow car lover get some pics please! And what about the other exotics in the family?

Hmmm then he must be a very very careful driver :)

As for Secure, what I'm saying is only those two things are covered under the Secure scheme, the rest come under normal insurance (atleast according to the BMW 5-owner I asked, a friend's dad and TeamBHP forums). Even if that isn't true, I think it's 20k or 38k more per year (or 1.5 lakh for 3 years or something) at the very least. Provided you're not into using it as a bumper car in an amusement park, I don't see how that's an effective use of money.

    http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-drives-initial-ownership-reports/76722-bmw-320d-expression-joy-8.html

I think the C63 is the only one he has right now, but you can find some pictures of his visit to Mclaren's facilities a month or so ago. Same thread.

  11. Just out of pure curiosity, whats your daily drive. Any exotics in the family?

I have a good friend in Chennai who regularly drives a 911 Turbo, tracks it as often as he can. And has uploaded a few videos of 250 km/h, so my friend its entirely subjective.

As soon as I saw your mention about Gas I thought I wouldnt reply, but I guess I should still chip in. Dont be a lane hog, drive according to the rules of the land. I know you're following traffic rules but if it endangers you or someone else avoid it at all means. In India the only way to drive is defensive driving, avoid everything :D

You obviously have not heard about BMW Secure.

MT drives a Merc C63 AMG .. white. Bought last year I think.

I have heard of BMW Secure, but getting rid of your NCB each time some idiot scratches your car or your tyre rim is broken or bumper dented isn't quite as appealing. Yes the no claim bonus is gone with the wind if you ask for a claim for such stuff. I believe only the Tyre Replacements & repair of a Water Damaged engine are covered. You can check it up if you want.

That line I've emboldened seems contradictory. If you're saying that "this is the way you should let people have their way on Indian roads to prevent your car from being riddled with dents" then OK. But not that "I'm not following the rules of the road". I don't mean to say I'll barge in from somewhere way back to prevent the guy in the next lane from taking mine, what I mean is when you see the vehicle slowing down in front of you, one should look at whether there's a vehicle beside you in the next lane or whether there's any vehicle coming in at a high speed in that lane from behind, then signal and then cut in when you have enough clearance. If someone can't NOT cut into another person's lane without pushing the other guy already IN the lane right beside him into the barrier, then he shouldn't. If he does, then he's the one contravening the rules of the road, not me. Sadly most people do it, especially Swifts.... hardly remember a swift owner in recent times who drives without weaving in and out as if his car's a knife and the road his birthday cake. Except one lady driving a Swift. Encountered her driving properly on the highway back from college and she had "Praise the lord" written on the back of her car. Completely apposite  .

But I agree, here if you want to keep your own car scratchless, you should do some careful driving and let all those pesky drivers and bike riders and auto walahs have their way and leave the lane in front of you free for any takers. Sadly, I just don't drive that way and for now, it's a good reason why I don't get to drive the Cruze (newer car here) as often. Of course when I take the Chevy out, driving style changes completely, I let people take my lane and only speed up on highways with plenty of space. If I scratch that car up, I'll get skinned alive :P

Your friend must either not mind losing his NCB (I can only wonder how much money he must have to care about an NCB if he owns a Porsche 911 here in India, no offence meant) or not care about small scratches or drive defensively on normal roads like you say.

  12. I know what driving an overpowered car feels like

:wallbash: tell us your address so we can steal your car please :)

Even Audi A4 is a good Car with superb performance.

The S4 would be an appropriate comparison here.

  13. Err atleast in India the M3 Coupe is about 70 Lakhs and the M5 is 1.18 Cr. Thats a difference of 48 Lakhs which just kills the M5.

You left out the fact that the M5 guzzles a lot more gas than the M3 btw, guess that's a given. Besides, this year's M5 got called out in reviews for being a bit un-BMW like in steering feel or whatever and not so much of a pleasure in day-to-day driving as against the 3 which was supposedly excellent at both. But hey, if I had the money for an M-badged 5 series and for plenty of gasoline, I'd go for an M5, not an M3.

Who said anything about India? If I live and work in India all my life, well a normal 3 series is probably all I'll be able to afford at the age of 30 :P And buying a BMW in chennai would be nuts unless you had the patience to let everyone get ahead of you in traffic. I'd be petrified to push into traffic and hold my lane. Yeah, I'm rather anal about holding my lane, got close to a few accidents holding my lane with the hand on the horn at 70+ against idiots who try barging into non-existent gaps without so much as an indication. Helps when you have an old Baleno (my dad's of course, I can't afford my own car at 21) in such situations. :gunsmilie: I also follow people in front with (sometimes sub) 10 feet gaps in the lane at high speeds to prevent people who don't deserve to cut in from doing so. Never ever cut into anyone else's lane till now without clearance though.

Once another lane-cutting PoS scraped the side of my car leaving 2 long and relatively thick bright blue scratches on the side. Came home from college and found me some brake fluid. Before Dad came home with his Cruze, I wiped the side with half the brake oil in that container and a few old pieces of cloth. All the blue paint left from that idiot's bumper magically went away. Can still see a slight bit of fading in that region on the side but only if you look really hard for it under lights. :D

Now with a BMW, I'd have been livid with that kinda scratch, besides fixing it would have cost a bomb. And I can't pull all this crazy stuff with a car like that even 10 years on. never been brought up with a lot of money thrown at me, so I can't think of it as "chal, 10k only to set it right no? what the hell.. it's ok" ever, no matter how much I earn in the future.

  14. Wow..a lots of potential M3/M5 buyers!!

    Well, all i ever want is a 67/68' Mustang or a R34 Skyline/new GTR

Hmmm a taste for old muscle eh? I kinda like the new mustang's looks though, and the new camaro (then again that could be cos of Bayformers' bumblebee  )

"Potential" .... haha, that will have to wait 6-7 years.. atleast 4-5 as it stands now.
