Damn, I was planning to go see Spidey on July 3rd. Now I don't know whether it's worth the $13 I'll be paying.

which is better among galaxy r and nexus?
getting it from the US is not an issue..i have heard the battery life in nexus is an issue..is that true?
1. In light of recent events, the advantages of having a Galaxy Nexus (or any future Nexus device) are quite clear. The differences in hardware you can see for yourself.
2. Well with moderate usage I'm able to get from off-charge at 7am to around 30% charge at 10pm. Which I guess is alright given the amount of time the screen is on with me on Whatsapp, both on Wifi and with EDGE on always. The screen is the main battery draw here. I carry around an inexpensive spare battery and now an extended battery when I need to travel a lot (GPS + data).
Maybe someone else with a Nexus can give you an idea of their battery time too. Yes, it's certainly worse on the battery life front compared to the Galaxy R but then again it's a Nexus, the advantages are of a different vein (hint hint: fastest updates). I think the hardware inside the Nexus is also better (CPU, GPU etc) than the Galaxy R. There is still no confirmed report of ICS on the Galaxy R, or any real news about a confirmed date for its release (they've said it 'may' be out by August). This is when the Nexus can already be put on (the oh-so-wonderful) Jelly Bean.
-
Galaxy R (around 20k), one V (17k), xperia U (16k, though screen is too small and width is definitely a big concern). Specs wise Xperia U is the best but I don't think you can live with screen size and non-expandable memory, it comes with only 2GB and thats it :|
If you have someone who's in the US then ask them to get you a Galaxy Nexus. Even with the high exchange rate, the new $350 price should be around your budget.

I seriously wish Apple get sued sometime, and that they have to stop selling the iPhone. f**king inbred twats getting G-Nex sales banned in the states. W T F retarded bugger who gave that judgement.
Besides that, in this particular time of greatness for all things Nexus, I decided to buy myself an extended battery (official Samsung one that is)

Now with another replacement battery (again Samsung) that I bought that's lying in Atlanta plus my original one still here, I'm carrying around a lot of spare battery power

This is why you should get screen protectors

I WANT JELLY BEAN NAO! Hate you Gaurav!

There there

The new Music detection widget is good (from Google) but it isn't as good as Shazam.

Hope you never had to use that though a couple of my friends got mugged and one was almost killed by a thug

It got pressed a few times in my pocket while I was in Las Vegas
And GT PD made a point of calling back immediately each time to make sure that I was alright. Nice people. Well, Georgia Tech, in the middle of Atlanta, is surrounded by a high crime zone (too many black people with guns, it's Atlanta after all). I've been careful (to the extent of being overly paranoid) so I haven't ever had issues but muggings and home invasions happen aplenty around there.I don't know why they'd change direct dial's functionality though. Adding one step doesn't really help in emergencies. I don't know if it's a bug or an intentional change.
-
Something weird in JB. Until ICS, the 'direct dial' widget (I had one for 911 / my Georgia Tech Police Department) on my homescreen would directly dial folks with one press.
Now the direct dial widget in JB actually takes you to the phone screen with that number entered but stops short of dialing that number. Weird.

One thing doesnt make sense, when i want to set reminders, and it asks me when i want to be reminded, why does the GNex show a screen? That is not the right move. It should ask in voice further right.
Otherwise, I am not sure of "blowing" it away as Siri did everything as well, but it certainly did while it searched for photos of the dog. I was expecting something on the lines of siri not working at all
Lol, I never tried setting an alarm..... that works too wow! If they bring in actions like switching wifi off and on among other device settings (which is already hinted at with the 'yet' in my last post) then it will indeed be unbelievably more awesome!
Today'll be my first test of battery with this phone. Not gonna be too much of a test considering I blow through battery with Whatsapp anyway during the first half of the day

HOLY sh*t HOLY sh*t.... I tried saying Turn Wifi Off and Turn Bluetooth On just for the heck of it and it said "Device Features are not yet Supported" .... so those are coming too?

-
hahah from wut? aids?

Put some screen shots up dude... Or you even a video of how JB looks?
And forgive my ignorance, but what is Google now?
Sent from the RocketNote
It's just the same as the videos on the last page. Blazing fast. Visually, atleast the homescreen is not any different to ICS. It's the speed and smoothness that has changed. The notification bar, transitions, camera modifications and some other things.
This guy's video kinda covers it -
I don't have another camera to take a video with (other than my Nexus S
)And of course Google Now. That's shown in the video too. It's kinda like Siri but won't start apps and such. It brings up 'cards' and tells you things like weather, someone's birthday or height, nearby restaurants, your flight number and give you updates (text you I guess), realtime sports scores, menus when you're inside the restaurant and such if you ask it (and sometimes even if you don't).

You bring the free-fund-ka GNex to our forum, you insult us by flaunting JellyBean, oh I've chosen my words wisely, perhaps you should've chosen yours! This is Android!
lol, in a 300 wala mood today, peace
.Anyhow, eagerly eagerly awaiting JB on my phone, the
Note
. Will steer clear of SDK rips unless they repack it with AOSP base. Man, these brick-bug kernels for Note have been irritating, basically leaving very few ROMs I can flash without worry.I'll gladly bear some terribly cliched lines from 300 for the goodness of Jelly Bean
This thing makes me go "Aaaawwww yeaaaah". It's time like these that make me happy to use a Nexus device. It's butter smooth, yes Project Butter does make a huge difference. Well worth the trouble of flashing a new ROM and reinstalling backups and setting it up again.Yeah, might as well wait for proper AOSP ones rather than go with SDK based ROMs.
-
I prefer this one cos it actually works well on my laptop unlike GR FS. I'd prefer the latter if I had a kickass gaming rig now.
-
Holy sh*t... this thing is insane.. and Google Now alone is worth all the hassle of upgrading for!

-
I couldn't resist .... I just couldn't... flashed it today!

-
Totally forgot...
Lucky bastards!

You do kinda go in knowing that you'll get a lot of loot
Besides you're spending kinda 3/4th that much anyway (at 900 bucks) plus u gotta go there (damn, those flights to San Fran from Boston woulda raped my wallet). So you gotta really want to and have to go there to get all that free stuff!Best time would have been now for me though (since I could have gotten the student registration at $300
). Honestly, I didn't expect that Chromebox thrown in.BTW what's the deal with Bulletstorm shown? So are they saying that they'll introduce those kindsa games soon on Chrome? Or only on Chromebooks? Heck, if they turn into some kinda Onlive-like system I'll gladly buy my stuff there.
-
Yeah, the talent of XDA is just godly!
And Jelly Bean is making waves... I/O has never been this big! ICS was awesome but today's keynote and yesterday's have just blown everyone away!

I think I'm gonna cave in and flash JB tomorrow evening
-
If TB isn't working then it's not worth flashing as of yet. Hopefully they can get TB to work! From what I've seen till now, the GNex has become much much faster now. Google

I've seen all the videos and it is indeed freaking amazing with JellyBean on it. Smooth is understatement. TB may or may not properly restore stuff and I don't think a lot of stuff will be updated to 4.1-compatible immediately. So it may be better to hold off a little till regular OTA appears. It's a good thing I went with a Galaxy Nexus (ok so I didn't buy it
) and also a good thing that I held off from going with CM9 RC1 last week and stayed on stock.I think TB only has a problem with encrypted app backups being restored in JB.
-
BTW if anyone with a GNex is interested, the easiest way seems to be to use ROM Manager and it kinda takes care of everything since the JB rom is listed there. Koush has done some fine work in getting JB ready for all Nexus(es/ Nexii??) - CDMA, GSM (takju and yakju). If you flash it without using this, you may or may not have a wifi bug that goes away only if you put in a static IP.
-
Gaurav, did you try JB already? If yes, then do post your feedback here -- performance differences and all.
Frankly instead of working I've been looking at the JB threads on XDA all morning. Couldn't go to the conference cos I couldn't get days off work
I might try flashing this weekend. I'm on yakju, so I'll need to pretty much erase everything. I don't know if I should hit this or wait for proper OTA in a few weeks, because some stuff like Titanium Backup and Apex Launcher aren't working perfectly on it yet.I think superfrag (rushab) is at the I/O (yes he got all the loot
) so his new phone must be running JB. I'll ping him on twitter to post his impressions here. -

Quoting from the "Support for International Users" section of http://developer.android.com/about/versions/jelly-bean.html :
Additional Indic languages: Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam
What does that mean? It means ಠ_ಠ will be natively supported in the OS! Hurray!

You can still buy it here - https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=galaxy_nexus_hspa - on the Play Store in the US. Apple still hasn't posted the 100 million dollar bond that's required to enforce the ban, so it's on sale still.
