  1. Finally watched Vicky Donor. While nothing super-amazing, the movie was good. Sweet, fun flick dealing with the way that particular act of donation is viewed. There were a few really funny moments in the picture too - the whole Bengali - Punjabi thing.

  2. A helicopter was flying around above Seattle yesterday when an electrical malfunction disabled all of the aircraft's electronic navigation and communication equipment. Due to the clouds and haze the pilot could not determine his position or course to steer to the airport. The pilot saw a tall building, flew toward it, circled, drew a handwritten sign and held it in the helicopter's window. The sign said "WHERE AM I?" in large letters.

People in the tall building quickly responded to the aircraft, drew a large sign and held it in a building window. Their sign said, "YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER." The pilot smiled, waved, looked at his map and determined the course to steer to SEATAC (Seattle/Tacoma) airport and landed safely.

After they were on the ground, the co-pilot asked the pilot how the "YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER" sign helped determine their position.

The pilot responded, "I knew that had to be the MICROSOFT building because they gave me a technically correct but completely useless reply.

  3. Dude, for all the stuff you've won, you sure haven't given away anything :D .

Kingston 128gb SSD, Serious Sam (2 iterations), an AMD Phenom X6 1090T, an iPod Touch 8gb, MS Office 2010 and a bunch of digital keys I wasn't gonna use... and only one of these was to a friend I know offline. I don't win much on IVG, I don't give away much on IVG (and mostly it's to members personally that I give stuff away, they know who they are). Don't judge someone just for a comeback :P

  4. @Gaurav-Praveer :- Yeah, I do understand some Indians think and behave very cheap in front of the foreign girls/ladies but things changing slowly.. Thats why we are a developing country but not developed :P. I really hate that! Not only any Indian but anyone who does that... Some of these qualities make/break your character. (Not respecting elders/treating women cheap...).

Not just with girls. The same guys who, at another public place will be very refined, will revert to their inner selves in an Indian store where they know everyone else is Indian. Little things that show, like how you might hold a door open and atleast 3 out of 4 people coming out from inside will coolly walk past neither giving you a thank you nor even acknowledging your existence. I'm just giving you an example. Frankly, those manners have to come from within. And then you get a group of Indians together at any queue in an amusement park or safari ride or something and they'll make a huge amount of noise as if they own the whole place when everyone else is waiting quietly. But this peeve is not unique to Indians.

The one thing I've found with Spanish people / Mexicans / Hispanics here is that they'll gladly stand around in front of you and prattle on in Espanol while you're trying to get a picture. Drunk Americans will also do a lot of stupid sh*t. Black people in Atlanta will try to shoot you and rob you (ok, that last one I'm just kidding about :P ). Anyway, enough with the stereotypes.

  5.

Sorry AMG for copying but all I can say about Megz and her lame advices and 'items on the list' posts that except for Gaurav, I dont think anyone even bothers reading...

Some of the stuff she says is true... the rest I read for the LOLZ like how I read the majority of your posts :P

  6. 31. We're afraid of commitment, too. You may think we spend our time scheming ways to trap you into marriage, but many of us are quite happy being independent and autonomous.

    -Hahaha yeah right :P

32.Women need some time to themselves or with other girlfriends. We need space as well and some good time, without you hanging around with us all the time. Shocking, but true.

-Nope, not all of them. Some wanna stick with you like a leech

34.Most women like it when men make more money than they do. Our money is our money, your money is our money too

    -Sad, but true :'(

35Men shouldn't knit pick every single little thing women do or try to do, like driving. If you don’t want women to drive, take the keys but expect consequences. But if a man asks a woman to drive, he should be quiet and let her drive the way she normally does. It is truly okay if she doesn't drive the way he does.

    - :fear::samui:

38Make sure to spend some time alone together. Just the two of you will make a difference in the relationship. Most women love it when they get to spend time with partner alone.Don't answer your phone every hour.

    - Why not :( ?

39.We like Men in White Shirt -Blue Jeans. - WTF this sounds lame, but it's actually true for many women. Do you folks like have a hive-mind or something

40 And a super secret- Don’t caress a woman’s face while you’re kissing her unless you really like her. This move translates to, “I want to have babies with you.”

    - You just contradicted your 31st point in a way here :P

  7. Wtf is up with these people going gaga over the Tectiles app from Samsung. (http://www.forbes.com/sites/briancaulfield/2012/06/13/how-a-samsung-intern-may-have-cracked-one-of-the-mobile-industrys-biggest-problems/)

Apparently the big idea of using NFC for stuff other than paying for things was 'thought up' by a Samsung Intern (as luck would have it from my university, Georgia Tech, but from the MBA program, not a technical background like mine). I call bullshit primarily because as you all know, the whole use of automation using NFC tags has been going on for more than a year now. Heck, Samsung's selling it at $15 for 5 tags, 3 times as expensive as places like tagstand and people are lapping it up.

Maybe the reason I'm pissed is cos the MBA guy popularized an existing idea via a company with clout and stole a bunch of engineers' glory.

  8. Well, Its unfair to judge Indian Guys (most cases) and girls when staying abroad for most of the period (20-25 Years).... considering them as foolish/Stupid/a**holes. Its how they grow up with their society, their buddies, friends circle...... which is a total different scenario in any foreign countries(Most don't give a damn about multiple relationships/breakups there.. unlike here). Agar doston ke saath milke masti nahi ki.. daru nahi pi.. comments pass nahi kiye.. hangouts... movies... nightouts...nahi ki. then my friend you haven't enjoyed Life yet. And im pretty sure 90% of the Indians have gone through these phases in their life. As for how Indians behave in foreign countries I don't have much idea, i never stayed long enough in any foreign countries (Apart from Dhaka :wallbash:).. so I can't comment. [ @ Praveer bete. ]

They do all that stuff here too - both white/black folks and the rest here, but then they know how to be refined when the time calls for it and not act like a caveman. Which is more than I can say for some of my friends here who study with me at the university for their masters.

Upbringing and the kind of dog-eat-dog competition for everything from getting into a bus to scoring grades and such could very well be the main reason that that level of politeness in public life doesn't quite come easily to a good number of Indians. And the ABCDs here... my God the extent to which they show off makes you laugh

  9. Here's for all the men who wanna know what your GF/Wife secretly want from you..

    1. All girls secretly love a guy who can sing.(MEGA-Turn-On)

    2. Most girls love cudlles

6.Being able to make your girl laugh = MAJOR brownie points!

    9. We can tell when you aren't listening, and, yeah, it kind of pisses us off. If were boring you, at least have the decency to tell us!

    13. We'd really appreciate it if you didn't hold the things we do during our time of the month against us. It isn't exactly our fault, and we aren't being ourselves.

    19. It absolutely floors us when you know our favorite color, shoe size, flower, T.V. show, movie, artist, etc. See, we aren't that hard to please.

    20. This one may seem weird. We love keeping your hoodies/jackets because: they remind us of you, they smell like you, and it makes us feel like you're there holding us even when you aren't.

22.All girls want to be told I LOVE YOU now and then and possibly whisper it in her ear when you are having a moment.

    27. When we say everything is 'fine', it generally means everything is absolutely horrible and we are on the brink of falling to pieces.. Don't just say 'ok' when we say we don't want to talk about it.

    30. Every girl should eventually get three things from her boyfriend -- a stuffed animal, one of his sweatshirts or hoodie’s, and a really pretty piece of jewelry. Also we like Chivalry and caring- Make sure she gets home safely as often as you can. If you're dropping her off, walk her to the door. If you aren't dropping her off, call to be sure she's home safely. We think that’s really cute and sweet.

I can attest to most points I've selected from your list from personal experience. That #27, haha I've done that many times knowing well it'll piss her off, and it does. I was hoping I could train the 'stupid' out of her :P, but it doesn't work.

#13 :fogug: Unfair. I get all kindsa flak for all weird things during that time of the month. I don't even know how a person's mind can be that messed up for that duration of time! :ko:

I have a pretty piece of jewelry alone left on my list I guess. But that ain't gonna happen until I get a permanent job :P Them diamonds be too expensive, and wtf is this antique jewelry bullcrap.... way way too expensive.

  10. In many ways yes, but having used stock AOSP ICS on Nexus S I felt that ROMs incorporating AOSP + minor UI tweaks (toggles, lockscreen, notification bar) and performance tweaks (kernels) are the best.

On the Nexus S, yes... I used that phone (still do, as my alarm clock :P) but here once I add the app for toggles on the notification bar, there's pretty much nothing else I have really needed. The performance seems to be pretty good and fluid without the need for any tweaks.

  11. Damn, Gaurav, man, i is jealous! In India, think the advance will start just before 5 days from release date :/

They opened the advance bookings really early here. They even had a Dark Knight Trilogy show on Thursday for 25 bucks. However I don't wish to pay 10 bucks more and miss a whole day of work starting at midnight when I've already seen Batman Begins and The Dark Knight way too many times. I'm not that crazy.

A theater quite close to my place shows DKR but I've booked one at an AMC that is an hour's bus+train ride into Boston because I want to catch it on an IMAX screen.
