  1. Finished Flyte and Physik - books 2 and 3 of Septimus Heap. Absolutely fantastic.

@bulovski - a bit late in the day, but I finished Magyk, and really loved it. Its not deep stuff, but it sure does entertain. Thanks for the pointer.

Just finished the John Rain series, the first couple were really good, the latter ones not so much. Definitely worth checking out, especially for fans of realistic (anti- tom clancy) action/espionage thrillers.

/ heads to buy Flyte and Physik, goggling like a pimply faced adolescent!

  2. No dark overtones yet - but I read only the first book. Bought 3 and 4, couldn't find a copy of 2. Generally good clean read throughout with very few words made up - although to sound eldritch, the author has just spelt everything very badly

Just picked up Septimus Heap! Am going to read it tonight, and am excited to see how it turns out. Shall report later!

  3. ^^ That good, huh? Does it have any dark overtones or wholesome airy fun? Will pick up one this weekend!

I just got done with Memoirs of a Geisha, long pending, and it was quite the revelation. Just something about the way it is written, one of the fewer books which excels at creating an authentic atmosphere and gets you heavily invested, and all this without obvious pandering.

  4. well this thread talks anything to everything..not necessarily gaming :P ...You can go to glasgow to source the latest games it is below planet M on brigade road. PH is still rocking so is Guzzler after the facelift when you are at it you might wanna check out Le rock...

Athek, the info is much appreciated. I shall pick up GEOW2 from Glasgow, and shall proceed to hit one of these spots next week! Is Le rock in Koramangala by any chance?

ok theres this gaming parlour on church street called CONSOUL.

it's a nice lace to chill since they have system link matches and you could sip on a beer too!it's above java city (church street)

pubs, well, haze isn't erally the best, the crowd has begun to suck!and the beer too! you can try this place called windsor pub!

it's next to cantonment, straight up from mount carmel college.it's an awesome place and they serve the best beer ever! super chilled!

Thanks for the info LSG, CONSOUL sounds good. Actually I used to love PH, cause it had a old school feel, and played good bonafide rock. Shall sample Windsor also, considering I have 5 nights to get drunk in namma bengalooru!

  5. Sigh....I sure do miss bangalore! Reading the last 2 pages, the discussion has markedly veered from gaming to pubs! While we are on it, could anyone in the know guide me as where to source upcoming games, and which pub does 'rock' best (is it still PH?). Info would be highly appreciated, as me visiting after 5 years!

  6. Hey DeeMan, where did you get them from?
Hey Helios, got em from a Black Friday sale off newegg.com; my gf acted as the courier for US --> India. Amounted to $80.00 only, with taxes. Its awesome vfm.

    ^^ NIce setup there bro....
Thank you saar! Still some ways from my dream setup though! :)

    Amazing setup, DeeMan.

The Z-5500's subwoofer looks monstrous. I've never heard the system in action before I don't think. I'm a bit scared, seriously. :P

It looks monstrous, and continues onwards to its mass :P. I am still suffering from backaches....the whole package weighed ~ 37kgs (me foggy, don't hold me to it), with the subwoofer alone contributing 25+ kg. Did I tell you I also use it as a foot stool, and it does not budge a nanometer?
  7. The best gaming headphone for the XBOX 360 is Tritton AX360 Surround Sound Headphone but the sad part is its not available here nor online.

    Hey Aamiracle,

The Tritton AX360's are not the best in terms of audio fidelity, but for gaming purposes, especially in shooters, the 5.1 directionality is a scream. ( I have 2 of these ladies). They are available in the U.S, so your best bet would be to have someone get them over for you.

p.s: Downside is that they do not have DTS decoding over optical/coax, and are not great for movie watching, primarily owing to the tinny center channel.

    Setup

  8. ^^awesome dood...
    ^^ @ DeeMAn ... nice ..

    Gracias :samui:

^^Nice Setup Deeman.... :P How much for the Tritton AX360 true 5.1 headphones ????

@Jack, I got them on Black Friday sale for US $80 apiece. Its worth the money.

    @Dee - awesome setup.

    Looks like someone's watching LOST.

Dude...LOST looks totally wicked on Blu ray. I was so gaping at the visuals! :O

  9. Wo hoo

I just graduated today to being a PSf**! Some of my stuff is missing, but here's my messy setup!

Apart from the 360 & ps3, my rig consists of:

    1) Dell E248WFP Full HD monitor (24")

    2) Logitech Z5500 5.1 speaker setup (black) with DD & DTS decoding (comes with THX certification, and hell yes, I can vouch for that rating)

    3) 2 x Tritton AX360 true 5.1 headphones with DD decoding (these babies accept optical inputs with DD decoding, and discrete volume controls for the centre, surrounds, bass, and Fronts)

    4) Sennheiser RS 120 Wireless Headphones (Exceeded my expectations, both in terms of reception and fidelity, especially considering they are wireless)

    5) CSW FPS 1600 4.1 speaker setup ( I have set these to accept signals being decoded by the Z5500, as a comparison benchmark, and also for a more expansive soundstage)

    6) My HP work laptop (this is a bonafide piece of crap)

    7) My darling Velocity Micro notemagix gaming laptop (this baby is no alienware, but pretty darn close)

    8) My 1 day old Blu-ray collection (OMFG, HD is just every bit as sweet I had imagined it to be)

  10. ^^ Verbinski is a good choice. He was able to convert a Disney ride to a trilogy of worldwide blockbusters. The Ring showed he can do atmospheric horror and has experience with creepy little girls. I feel he's a good choice. Bioshock needs to look epic as well as have that creepy element.

I enjoyed the 'Mexican' and 'Weatherman' more than the ones you mentioned. Pirates 1 was the best. And I have no doubts about his 'blockbusterization' abilities, but I feel someone like Christophe Gans (Silent Hill) would make for a better choice. Making it creepy and epic is necessary, but from my gamer perspective, I want it to capture the spirit of the game and not lead to any form of dilution.

Silent hill may not have bought in the greenbacks but did leave majority of the franchise's fans satisfied!

p.s: Lets wait and watch, I am just happy it is not been given to Michael Bay :)

  11. ^^ Same here... I am not entirely sure whether the movie is a good idea. And I am not sure about Verbinski either, someone more quirky would be better suited!

p.s: Just wondering what Sanjay Leela would do with the color palette and set art pieces if he were to direct Bioshock! :)

Check out these hot beauties! The bike is Triumph Daytona 675 with a 3 cylinder configuration costing $ 11k . Its acceleration, noise, and 'flickability' was awesome, and it weighed in at a really light 169kg...the maximum I did was a scary 140 miles/hr! It is a well behaved bike and probably the best bike for starters.

And I would just love one drive in that ferrari! Sigh...why are they soo expensive!

  13. Apart from the huge shootout at the end, the night time rescue scene was also filmed really well.

Loved the part where the sniper guy takes out the two guards who spot Rambo and the woman

. Stallone really knows how to direct action!

Amen to that...the action has an unrestrained kinetic feel

  14. ^^ LOL.

I watched Rambo again, what can I say? The movie kicks all recent action movies in the balls! Stallone should keep directing movies even if his acting career is pretty much over...

Ohh sweet lord! I watched Rambo yesterday...and to supplement the experience...I went tight....and to top it the theatre was empty...only me! Once the action started...especially the 0.50 vehicle mounted MG scene... man I was cheering all the way!

    Sweetness

  15. Watched the much hyped 'Trainspotting'. I wasn't so impressed, 'a group of crack addicted teenagers and their hallucinations' - not my kind of movie at all. But some of the scenes were shot brilliantly(esp the scene where

Ewan hallucinates abt da baby, man, that was so disturbing :nerves: ) good work from the director and Ewan McGregor.

    Overall - 7/10.

Watched Om Shanti Om - Total Timepass. Leave ur brains behind to enjoy this - 7/10 !

nooooooo..... Trainspotting == Om Shanti Om then? :wallbash:
