  1. I saw Order of the Phoenix in large screen HD - oh man, even Dudley looked good.

The other thing I saw today was a shop that sells movie posters - lots and lots and lots of posters (including old movies). There are standard ones for $10 and long ones for $14. Can anyone say if those prices are reasonable?

  2. I was planning to buy a PS3....but i ended up buying..

    a DS... wohooooo!!!!!

Best money spent on a gaming device ever...its amzing!!!

Welcome to the best gaming padwan.

Too bad I never could make up my mind and get the DS when I had the chance.

Then again, the only version available then was the Pink DS. :P

    Buy buy buy buy buy

  3. just saw forbidden kingdom... found it too silly... wud rate it 3/10

:eyebrow2: - c'mon - at least 5/10. A 3 score borders towards bad. The movie lost out in trying to combine Jet Li epic style movie with Jackie Chan irreverence.

Ok - saw the following movies over a 24 hr period (it's hard to sleep on flights). My reviews may be a bit tilted because of lack of sleep and cramped seat and absence of good whiskey.

Jumper - decent. Complete set up for sequel. Actually best of the lot I watched. 6/10

Spiderwick Chronicles - not bad. But could have done so so much better. Just look to Narnia for inspiration. And Nick Nolte is a complete and utter waste. 5/10

The Bucket List - Jack is getting old and set in his acting ways. So is Morgan Freeman. Same stuff from previous movies. It's only Jack's speech towards the end which shows how good an actor he is. Otherwise complete mush.

Definitely, Maybe - Ryan Reynolds is wasted here. And it's a shame that there's so little of Rachel Weisz. Complete chick flick (it was release on V day) - and absolutely no story, no sense.

27 Dresses - less said the better.

Horton hears a Who - I really wanted to enjoy this movie, really did. It's Dr Seuss - what's not to like. But just could not. The Seuss lines are fine, but the rest is totally insipid writing. Jim Carrey is actually good.

Time to go back and watch the crappiest in American television.

  4. finished starship troopers last week

started reaper man by pratchett now

    aka God of fantasy humour

I only liked some scenes of Reaper Man.

The ones I really really like in the Discworld series are Going Postal, Night Watch, Witches Abroad, Men at Arms, A Hat full of sky, Soul Music. I think I've read all of them at least 3 times - some about 10. There's also a short story starring Granny called the Sea and the Fishes - must read for all Granny fans.

I just love Granny Weatherwax (and not because am Grampa) - imagine an elder version of Gregory House with a black pointy hat.

Try to catch the movies Hogswatchnight - it's a lot of fun. And you'll finally get to see what Nobby looks like.

  5. ^^ :)

It's a graphic novel brought to life in pristine glory. Can't wait for season 3 - Tim Kring has promised that none of the mushy stuff from season 2 will be there. It will be back to season 1 style blood and super powers. Can't wait!!!

  6. Firecom 500 gig external hdd. Too lazy to take pics. Imagine a solid aluminium brick with a black faceplate.

Also, 3 Satyajit Ray DVDs - Nayak (The Actor), Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne (The adventures of Goopy Bagha), Charulata (The Lonely Wife).

GGBB is one of the finest children's films in Indian cinema - not seeing it is missing out on an experience. Also - must see for the spot on special effects 50 years ago.

Nayak delves into the psyche of a successful actor, and Charulata explores a very complicated relationship (supposed to be one of Ray's finest).

All from a one day visit to Calcutta.

  7. My PC monitor is old a*s 17"...now begining to show withdrawal symptoms......

I was using it with my 360 and suddenly the screen went blue-ish shade....during DVD playback and game play.....

Is this my monitor or 360????

Most probably the monitor - and I would suggest it's the PCB of the monitor. Try giving it a few slaps - might work if a few cables are not connecting somewhere. I ran by old weird colour monitor for over a year by slapping it around. If it doesn't suggest upgrade to an LCD monitor. You'll get a decent 19" for about 10k.

  8. "How to Travel with a Salmon" and the works of Wodehouse for this weekends shopping at Crosswords.

Might want to pick up Foucault's Pendulum if you haven't read it. Best conspiracy theory novel - ever. Interspersed with acerbic wit.
