  1. finished "The Inimitable Jeeves" by P G Wodehouse. Awesome stuff. I like the way it moves from small musings in the beginning to absolutely hilarious events and statements later on. Plain brilliant!!

Now starting on "Liar's Poker" by Michael Lewis.

Wodehouse - God of intricate comedy plots. There's no one who comes close. I personally prefer the Blandings stories to Wooster.

Liar's Poker - lovely insight into the murky world of bond trading.

  2. I finished "How to Travel with a Salmon" by Eco. The guy's a genius - there's no doubt. These are very short articles he wrote over the years. I would suggest pick it up for some brilliant writing. The articles are mostly parodies. The title essay is fun - there's also a couple of hilarious ones on How to recognize a pr0n movie (yes it actually does that and no it's not naughty) and how to eat on an airplane.

Starting with Serendipity by same guy - this is slightly more serious and philosophical, and is an offshoot of his treatise on search for a perfect language.

  3. has any one used the xbox 360 controller for PC?

was thinking about getting one.. for 1500....

    is it worth it?

Totally - played Bioshock with it. But the keyb + mouse combo is generally preferred for shooters. the controller rules in platforms and racings.

  4. Watched Indy Jones today. Total popcorn flick - which is what it's meant to be. It's not in the class of Last Crusade. Some parts felt like a tribute to the old films. There were some very nice touches where Shea was allowed to have his own scene stealing moment. Would've liked to see more traps. Would give this 7 on 10.

Also, Cate Blanchett - finest actress in Hollywood. Period. No one comes close.

  5. ^^ Samit Basu - love the gameworld trilogy. His books have a touch of Terry Pratchett in them - which is always always good.

To the above list add John Norman (Gor series) - brilliant, ground breaking - and responsible for creating an entire erotic fantasy culture.

The Golden Compass trilogy is amazing in the way it mixes fantasy / otherworld and some very controversial philosophy.

We always assume that JRR Tolkein shall not feature in these lists because he is the Almighty in fantasy writing.

  6. Picked up:

Indiana Jones Adventures - the novel adaptations of the three movies. Started with Last Crusade and is a pretty nice read.

Two collections of essays by Umberto Eco (aka GOD of writing) - Serendipities and How to travel with a Solmon. Brilliant - there's no other word. But that applies to all of Eco's works. For those who haven't pick up and read Name of the Rose and Foucaults Pendulum. Dan Brown seems like a nursery kid with his Da Vinci Code in front of FP.

  7. Pretender - one more mindblowing show which died before it's time. Like Total Recall 2070. :D . I think Pretender ran 2 or 3 seasons before being killed. But the last one was pretty crappy because of all the plot twists.

@Jeri - when you say new PB season on Star is that season 4, so we will be on par with the US? But they haven't shown seasons 2 and 3 on Star yet.

  8. So wondering if ICO (PAL) is available in India.

Best of luck. It's a tough game to find anywhere in the world. Try some of the European sites - they might actually have it. Game.co.uk is out of stock, but they were selling for less than 3 pounds.

  9. Am in town. Let me know if Tuesday or Wednesday night works for you all somewhere.

New airport is shiny and farking faaaaaaaaaaar. Seems roads are ready more or less. But the new airport shouldn't have been opened - examples of stupidity abound. Parking space for tons of cars and only one checkout point - imagine the traffic. Three signboards pointing to the "Exit" - guess where? Close to the Exit, and no signs in the corridors. Someone hurried up or was playing Doom when supposed to be designing this place.

  10. Quick question. Is there any way to connect my normal headphones to the 360??

Yes - you'll have to mess around with adapters a bit. Get one "2RCA male to stereo female connector", and two separate female-female RCA connectors.

The xbox audio cables will go into the separate female-female RCA connector. Fix those connectors to the 2RCA male points on the first connector, and plug in the headphone jack to the stereo hole.

Best way - take the xbox 360 cable to an electronics shop and tell them what you need instead of saying male / female stuff (they might direct you to the vcd shop and ask you to start winking).
