Ozark has the best first episode of any series I’ve ever watched. Goddamn Mr. Bateman is talented.

LOL I’ve been a bumbling idiot then, and have been avoiding excel discs too, since I believed them to be inferior. Have never purchased any other Indian Blu ray, and won’t, specifically for the reasons you mentioned.
Where do you pick up the BDs from usually?

Oka, will check it out. Thanks.

As an example, my Kong: Skull Island disc (sold by Excel) is an Austrian import but also includes Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu audio along with other languages. My Logan disc is (from Excel again) is a German import, but also contains Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs.
How do you figure they’re imports? Perhaps they did it for some niche titles, or certain publishers accommodated the “Indianisation”? Didn’t know about this. Does the CBFC b/w splash screen show up at the start?
Sony DADC had set up a dedicated stamping factory for some games and mostly movies around the end of the PS3 era. -

Yeah I'm grabbing a 6-bay NAS, done with having to jump through hoops just to get legit DVDs. If movie studios don't want legit business, fk them. Also saves money with PS5 digital edition because the only reason I wanted disk version was for UHDs.
I thought of the same but my usage is quite limited in time to warrant such a set-up. In a good month I'd watch 1 movie a week. Anyway I preferred importing BRs or buying used but only imported. Plus the sense of occasion watching a BR brings is lost with downloads
16 minutes ago, Bird Bird Bird said:Which one ? I'm thinking of going for one, but the initial investment is huge. NAS + NAS drives.
Yeah, about 30-50k depending but its super convenient if your usage justifies it.
Edit: honestly though I wouldn't bother with anything but streaming if I didn't have this audio set-up that demands and deserves a high quality source. The convenience is too valuable.

V for Vendetta
What a scrappy, fantastic little thing. The setting is catchy, the message is universal, and the vibe is just so right. I was going to watch Chicago 7 but just went browsing for some reason, and chose this, which was kind of lucky because it's the last day the movie is available on Netflix! I didn't know this till after I finished the movie and the small subscript below the title told me so.
The movie has some great lines and Hugo Weaving absolutely nails their delivery, like only he could. The music, the few songs that V plays in his jukebox are gems, and together with his reclaimed art and other things set the mood so, so right. The choice for London, as I understand that it was in the comics too, was truly inspired, and the colours used in the logos, the dominoes and the chancellor's briefing room were absolutely apt.
The movie feels more relevant today, in this year, and with this state, and is an engaging and enjoyable viewing. Portman as Evey, the character that imbibes fear and kowtows to the state is most of us, and her transformation as Fawkes was pulled off brilliantly.
The idea, that an idea, once it catches on, cannot be killed, an idea whose time has come cannot be stopped. Similar to what Bruce mentions in Batman Begins, this is the greatest tool used by people who change the world.
..Mr Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.
Remember, remember the 5th of November.

Was there just 1 factory stamping all blurays, for all the different distributors ?
Apparently.
14 hours ago, DinJo said:If you want online option check for Moviesanywhere.com any purchases allows purchases across all connected accounts ma app, iTunes, vudu, fandango, Google play, prime video, Microsoft TV it's really worth while it has atmos track where applicable
Thanks. It's not about the atmosphere track, it's about the bitrate and transfer quality. Blu rays offer audio upto 18Mb/s with a DTS HD master audio track, streaming is usually in the low kilobits, and dolby. All services emphasise video quality only (rightfully so for now).
10 hours ago, Keyofx said:I think most English FHD/UHD blus (from Excel) were imported anyway, so this probably won't impact us too much.
Nope. Every single Indian blu ray is localised for content, subtitles, and language options. In rare cases there are weird crops and other inconsequential changes.
-
^Yeah I kinda liked it too but they totally ruined the vibe by the end of the show. The last two episodes are boring, and worse, unnecessary.
I’ll probably read the book. -

Blu-ray India update: the factory producing/stamping the discs in India has been shuttered and existing stock has been recalled. No more Indian blu-rays. So unless imports open up those of us who want some are SOL.
Though I'd honestly prefer a Tidal-like AV service with a purchase & download option. iTunes does offer 4K purchases and the video might be satisfactory but the audio is nowhere close to BR quality.

Have spent countless hours with my cousins and this game. We used the multi-tap, and always had triple threat matches. Every single day. Some of them, specially cage matches, went on for hours.
I used to pick Brock, one of my cousins used Goldberg, and the other the Undertaker. We still call each other by these names to this day
This, Need For Speed, and Virtus Tennis. Can never forget these games.
Truly one of the funnest things we’ve done together.

Tenet has a very cool, and quite a simple concept at its core. Everything else, including the writing, editing, cinematography and acting is just mediocre. The story is idiotic and is presented in an amateurish way. Really, the only other thing good about the movie is The Plan by Travis Scott.
My theory, and hear me out here, is that Nolan himself got confused trying to write and direct this thing.
This is a misstep by someone who’s given us extremely cool cinematic moments such as the van falling and the hallway scenes in inception, that reveal in the prestige, and the batpod and Joker from TDK.
The whole thing is a mess, and is all the more disappointing because the core concept carries so much potential. The only “cool” thing about this movie was the implementation of reversing entropy “IRL”.The whole thing is just weirdly low quality. The acting is sub-par, the writing isn’t great, and the final act is just visually and progressively incomprehensible.
Do better, Nolan. You certainly can.
Ugh/10.

What. A. Race. Goddamn what a race. Someone give Perez a seat, better make it a red bull. Russell butts his head in, blasts the door open, and will be fighting alongside Leclerc & Max given the right car.
Also Mick Schumacher is the F2 champ!
So, so exciting. The sport is in good hands.

Watched Ad Astra last night. It's pretty slow. By which I mean, it's majestically beautiful, and moves at a sloth's pace most of the time. It feels even slower, and consequently longer, because of slo-mo shots and the moody score, which makes it feel like the entire film is in slo-mo, like Snyder movies, but it's closer to Blade Runner 2049 in vibe and feel.
It also gets most things correct in scientific depiction (in the larger context), and did keep me interested most of the time. Some of the shots are truly jaw-dropping.
A more lively score, and (slightly) better editing would've made me like it much more, but I guess they were going more for a dramatic silhouette for it.
Hotstar pinches the audio quite a bit to compensate for video and Pitt's enunciation compounds clarity in speech. Thankfully, there isn't much dialog.
If you're interested in space, exploration, and how it'd look and feel to be out there, visually this movie nails it.
7/10; 11 for visual depiction of the solar system.
Edit: Just read that the DP is Hoyte Van Hoytema, who has also worked on Interstellar, Dunkirk, Spectre, Her, and Tenet. Goddamn what a talent.
Edit 2: and if you have to go before your time, there's no better way to go than on an outer space mission. When they release the captain, woosh. Goosebumps.

Check IW. Great stuff.
Marvel has some issue with audio transfer. All their blu-rays are quite underwhelming in dynamic range and just don’t sound crisp as compared to say a Nolan movie.
16 hours ago, Joe Cool said:Interstellar is picture perfect in 4K. The entire Nolan box is worth it.
That’s because Nolan cares and knows it makes a difference.
Interstellar was one of the two BDs I used to audition my sound set-up, and you could just as easily use it for auditioning video. A few scenes are simply staggering. That IMAX shot of spinning Endurance against the black hole backdrop
Another one of my favourites though less out there: the canon fires in TDK when Bruce is trying to re-create the thumbprint. Those canon shots go through your goddamn soul. Alfred: “I don’t think you made it quite loud enough sir”
These are the moments that make buying equipment worth it.

They need to limit the delivery based on payment + location + IP address. But no retailer would do this since at the end of the day, they want to sell the consoles and make profit which they are doing. Only Sony has an incentive of doing something about it and they are doing in US via PS-Direct where you need a PSN account and then get queued up during sale. If you are lucky to end your wait time with stock in place, you get 10 mins to peacefully order one.
Welcome to my world of limited edition sneaker releases. This happens almost weekly for us. Once, when I got the order in at precisely 730, the India launch time for Nike limiteds, it didn't go through because OTP

But the game is an absolute blast (even if performance is a mess on PS4 Pro). Gives me those Motorstorm feels. Can’t wait to try this on PS5 or XSX.
a) Which Motorstorm?
b) Love me some arcade Dirt. Just one Q about Dirt 5: has the handling changed?
20 hours ago, HundredProofSam said:The preference for PlayStation here over Xbox is just a general reflection of the way Indian consumers generally perceive and prefer game consoles. To this day, people in India who don’t know gaming refer to a console as a playstation.
Okay. The reason for that is games. Sony has delivered a steady stream of epic gaming experiences right from their first console. Those who grew up on Gran Turismo, SOTC, God of War, Metal Gear Solid, and so many more still get to play modern versions of those games. Xbox 360 caught on well because they had a few great games but MS have shown consistent incompetence and their starts have led them nowhere. The 360 also introduced cool new things: achievements, all the online stuff with gold etc. which made the gaming experience better and took the industry forward. They haven't really done anything like that with the One, and now with the X. It's just a more powerful yet similar console. So now they're incompetent, and out of any meaningful ideas.
Quoteyou can bet that in the long term, Sony will support PS5 in India way better and way more comprehensively than Microsoft will the XSX|S
How has Sony ever supported Playstation better in India? Their repair/replacement policies are non-existent. The turn-around time is atrocious. Accessories don't make it here. No limited editions. No real promotional events or game experience events since the PS3 gen. Even regional pricing's gone. Heck, does Playstation India even exist anymore?
MS to its credit did offer better hardware support. Not sure if they still do. And they made the effort to launch the Series X on time.
QuoteBut even if you look at the numbers, PlayStation does sell a LOT more than Xbox in India, and the software numbers are even more skewed than the hardware numbers.
This is despite the utter neglect and lack of effort from Sony in India lately. They used to make a effort earlier: to grow the market, to improve experiences, to build a product. Now it's like they don't give a sh*t.

The level of tennis in this tournament has been impeccable. Seeds 1,2,3 and 4 qualified for the knockouts, and 3 and 4 (something tells me they won't stay 3 and 4 for long) will fight it out for the trophy.
The anticipation for yesterday's matches had me giddy all day and boy did they deliver. Thiem's backhand feels like a "kaan ke niche bajana" and that DTL slap is a joy to watch. It was like someone activated Thiem's boost button 0-4 in the tie-break and he bludgeoned those last points. There is no one today who plays the big points like Thiem. Like Rusev, Thiem "crush".
Medvedev, the real life incarnation of Drago, and Rafa, who is as close to a Rocky-esque people's champ as you can have. Like in the movie, the first few games were murderous from Med, and Rafa's clutch instinct was working on overdrive. This was such a classic Rafa performance. Hung in there by the skin of his teeth and waited for Med to give an opening. Broke on his first opportunity and closed the set. I was like:

Rafa is the only one today who gets under the ice calm Med's skin. Though the rooskie's ace in the hole is his ability to abolish the previous point from his attention. He does not change in response to the scoreline, a lost point, game, or even the set. The next point is back to business. That's what he did, and made a couple of smart changes in the second set in his response to Rafa's dagger slices and return of serve, and closed it out.
All love to Rafa, but this is the final I want to see: Thiem V Med for the supremacy. Another match that has me giddy in anticipation as both are executing to their absolute limits. Both have lately found their strides, and are stamping their identities on this sport. Let the next-gen begin. Finally. These are two future greats, two future giants playing here, and are taking the sport forward.
Side note: how good has this entire tournament been. What a send-off to London. Even without the crowd, these are some of my favourite matches of all time, with Nadal-Thiem my pick for the match of the year.

Okay, after hearing that it wasn't that great a movie, I didn't pay much attention to Gulabo Sitabo but the other day I just put it on as I was scrolling and it turned out to be quite an entertaining little thing. Fully expecting it to put me to sleep, I tucked in and used my phone (!) to watch it. But it got me interested right from the first shot of Mirza, the wretched miserly old man exceptionally portrayed by Mr. Bachchan. If there ever was a manifestation of the greed circle of hell, it would be Mirza. One of his finest performances, of which there have been quite less in my eyes.
I shouldn't have really doubted it because Shoojit Sircar, and he properly delivers. The story is quite simple, but every character and every scene is deftly presented. The cast is absolutely stellar and every single one of them deliver.
Watch it for the presentation, for that old Delhi charm, watch it for Mirza, Baankey, Guddo, Begum, the Haveli; watch it for the end.
