  1. I think the R* top brass needs to have a serious sit down sooner rather than later. They have the storytelling cred but haven't really been able to expand on mission design as much as they needed too.

Sure they've got a cover system now, the game world is better than any other open-world game, the weaponry is beefier than before and we all know how good the physics code is. But the missions themselves, apart from a handful of standouts, are just variations of the same busywork we've been doing for years now.

I'm sure they're seeing the limitations of the medium but not thinking of ways to work around those limitations like good developers should.

  2. All I get the time to watch is Lost. And season 4 has been breakneck so far. 2 hr finale on the 29th :(

I just can't get into these new shows (Lost being the exception). I tried 24 and Prison Break but I found them really embarrassing :/

I remember the time when TV was GOOD, even what we got on the local channels here.

  3. The PS3 version after installation might not have the pre/post cutscene loads. Confirmation needed though.

Apart from the random characters theres a shipload of extra content in this game. Assassin missions, vigilante, most wanted, races, car deliveries, internet dating and more. The fun doesn't have to end with the main story.

  4. I don't think the graphics are bad at all! For anyone finding the environments a bit samey, theres a bit more variety in the second island.

And yea, once you get used to the car physics theres really no going back :D

@Sam: How does the soundtrack grab you?

  5. LOL @ Aftrunner. The fire is especially cool isn't it? I love the way it propagates on the vehicles. Starts out small and then its just a backdraft level orgy of flames.

I don't think I've ever gone out of my way to hurt peds though. You sick bastard :)

  6. Nice scene-setting mission that :P

Don't forget to socialise. Little Jacob can get you cheap weaponry once you get his like-percentage high enough. And his car-boot gun-shop interface is quite nifty.

  7. The radio stations are absolute gold. All of them. Theres some really really good music in this game and kudos to Rockstar for not going with a greatest hits collection for each genre, which would have been a major cop out and boring to boot. One thing I've noticed is that songs repeat themselves a bit too much. 200+ songs on the soundtrack and they could get the randomiser to work like it should? For shame! My advice is to keep listening.

The character models may be a little low on detail but it makes sense when you look at how much the game is processing/rendering. We don't know enough about Euphoria, for example, to guage how processor intensive it is. Maybe its hogging the pipe, that could otherwise be used for high-poly in-game character models. Who knows.

The 10/10 scores are definetely stretching it. The game is a step back from San Andreas, no matter what spin Rockstar tries to put on the game. New Jersey or Alderney just doesn't seem New Jersey-ish for instance. The Boroughs sort of blend together, which they shouldn't. I miss the bloody countryside. And the parachute. And Truth and Mike Torino and the rest of the whackos in San Andreas. hehe.

    Edit: 52% completion now.

  8. @Ayush: Yea, I've made that mistake a couple of times

Another detail is how the gush of water from a broken hydrant will bob your vehicle about if you park right over it. I've been knocked down, sometimes all the way across the street by the damn things.

Tip: Take the time to drive around the city between the main story missions. The extra character side quests aren't explicitly marked on the map and show up randomly as your drive by a particular area. Some of them are tied to the choices you make in the main missions so everything ties together quite nicely.

  9. I'm 45% done. Feeling a bit sad that its all going to be over soon

All those choices in the story and the multiple endings make it worth a second playthrough. And these aren't your run of the mill multiple endings either. I haven't finished the game yet, but from what I gather, there are a set of missions for each choice you make.

Tip: It pays to ask questions first and shoot later in this game. Don't go gun-crazy or you'll miss a lot of really good dialogue and choice of outcomes.

Kane and Lynch players will appreciate the bank heist mission a bit more (not a spoiler because its in the damn trailer). Both games handle the same scenario differently but I think I prefer K&L by a whisker.

  10. I've seen the Fruit billboards around town and an ad for the phone on TV but haven't been to the site yet. Another one to visit tomorrow evening then :wallbash:

@Corty: So that actually happens eh? With how the games been going so far, I'm not the least bit surprised :/

  11. Have you visited the

    Little Lucy's Beauty Pageant website

    on it? :wallbash:

Nope. Theres so much content that I feel like I have to actually put the game on hold for a significant period of time just to sit back and read even a small portion of whats on offer. I'll look into it though :D

Random observation: The game seems to have ratcheted up the sleaze this time round, or hiked up the hem line a few inches northward, to use a phrase Lazlow would love. And I'm speaking of non-mission/story content ONLY btw.
