Watched a couple of movies in the last week.

Heat - An absolute masterpiece. Al Pacino is on f**king fire and DeNiro is amazing as well with his understated performance. Amazing story, amazing action, amazing dialogue. Go watch it, guys.

Masterpiece is the right word for it.

Check out other Michael Mann movies if you haven't already! They're all amazing.

From what I've read about Wipro smart bulbs, they are pretty much using Tuya or Tuya licensed bulb & battens, may be you could try using the Tuya Smart or the Smart Life app? Technically it shouldn't make a difference with connectivity, but worth a shot?

PS - I've ordered 1 batten as my kitchen tubelight was on the verge of dying. Will experiment and see if I can add it to my integrator platform. I prefer having one single place to control all my devices instead of having different apps (I know you can do it with Google Home/Alexa, but their routines, scripts and automations are very limited compared to what other integrator platforms offer)

Yea their smart life app is clearly white label, but it's fully functional and has never given me any issues. Plus the Alexa and GA integration means you don't really need to use it for anything more than setup. Let me know how you get on with adding it to the integrator platform. I have 6 of those smart battens, so I've fully bought in :D

Thanks. That was the idea, to see what all people have setup in their homes, or what they might be looking for. Home Automation is a rabbit hole, and I'm proper sucked in!

I think those Wipro LED battens are using an LED strip, should be straight forward to DIY. The LED 'standing corner lamp' I'm making is similar, but its using a bit more expensive RGB individually addressable LED strip. Its still comes out to be a lot cheaper than the Hue or the Xiomi LED strips, and gives you a lot more flexibility as have a plethora of options with custom firmware to control them. The below link is showing them still in their prototype stage, these are 3 separate LEDs which can be synced to respond to music with a different EQ Visualization effects:

I'm 3d printing a base for them to make them stand, and they will stand facing the corner so the light falls on the wall corner, reducing the harshness further.

I've started DIY-ing 'smart-switches' by splicing nodeMCUs or other ESP8266 boards on power cords to make them wifi capable. For my geyser I've used a Shelly switch which is connected behind the switch-button, in the wall recess, a very clean setup.

Awesome stuff! But isn't adding a smart plug (or behind the switch button as in your case) for an AC or Geyser a bad way to power those things down? It feels like you're just cutting off power which may hurt them in the long run? This probably is less an issue with geysers, though. More so ACs.

Yes all my smart bulbs are Wipro. Reliability wise they are superb. And price wise too. Just the random repairings are annoying.

And they make smart battens too

Yea, those battens are great. I've been recommending them to everyone :D

  3. @HundredProofSam, I think there's actually a hub thing for the smart lightstrip that you need to plug into your TV to get it to sync with the on-screen action.

I like this channel, btw. Plenty of simple automation tips and tricks.

Also, Wipro may not be as outright sexy as Philips Hue, but I highly recommend their bulbs, battens, and switches if you're looking to automate a majority of the lights in your home. Works out super cheap, no hub needed, and they haven't failed on me yet (touch wood). I also don't think anyone else makes smart battens, but that may have changed now.

  4. Excellent thread! I'm kinda locked into the Wipro ecosystem - multiple smart LED battens, smart switches, and smart bulbs - all controlled, scheduled, and routine-ized over mobile, nest hubs, and echo shows.  Unfortunately, I don't think Wipro does smart LED strips. Which ones are you using?

CX apparently has subpar HDR brighness (And yes I'm new to HDR :fear: )

    But CX can't decode DTS

DTS is a minor issue for sure, but remember that it won't be a long term one if you end up getting a soundbar or A/V receiver because they'll process your audio instead. The CX has decent enough audio, but it won't come anywhere close to a dedicated setup.

I'd say the Samsung not having Dolby Vision is a much bigger deal.

    Wasn't this expected?

     Also

"The power consumption of the PS5 is surprising not because of how high it can be, but for how close it is to the fastest gaming laptops currently available retailing for at least 5x the price of the console. That's a lot of power per dollar console gamers are getting this generation."

Exactly. It's the most obvious thing ever. That story doesn't even make sense as clickbait.

I don't care much for those features, since they'll all be 'fake' implementations anyway with a soundbar.

But yes, the vfm factor can't be ignored. Wish there was a way to compare it with the 30-50k ones.

    I'd pay 30K, tbh :D

Also, those codecs are pretty basic if you're watching HQ streaming or blu-rays. Not so much if those are not your specific use cases and if it's just games. And even with games, the new consoles can output bitstream as well as Atmos. Just things to keep in mind.

Wait so the upcoming C1 has nothing adding on top of the CX? Apart from a bump in nits?

Might not even have the nit bump based on LG's CES announcements. Only G series is apparently getting the brighter screen, but I suppose things could change late in the process depending on how desperate they are.

    Edit: Late :D

Bar 9.1 has the detachable wireless satellites so it’s not an entirely simulated surround sound. This made me tilt towards soundbar over receiver and speaker set up. Did 6 months of research on receivers, bookshelf speakers and satellites. I even did the concealed wiring to prepare, but eventually the Bar 9.1 ticked all the boxes for me (I’m not an audiophile, mind you) with a lot less cable clutter. Clutter is always a major downside for me, so I was willing to sacrifice a bit of sound quality (only a bit though because Bar 9.1 does sound phenomenal) for the convenience.

All true, but then you're veering dangerously close to receiver territory in terms of pricing. And a receiver does go much, much further in terms of features, utility, and modularity (you can upgrade just your center channel, for instance), especially if the concealed wiring provisions are already set up :fear1:

    Yours is really convenient, though.

No, it's in some traffic jam I guess, anyway promised delivery is tomorrow, so it's ok. Exactly a week after release.

Use the time to find a Cat6 cable :D You'll need it to transfer data from your PS4 to PS5. Takes a couple of hours, but will save you from having to re-download everything.

No Type C cable in the box either, and you'll need one to connect the controller to the console during the initial setup.

Didn't work, may be a busy Monday at work

I called around this time too. It hit my final delivery station at 4pm yesterday. I waited till 6pm and thought I'll just call them randomly. Might as well try types. Didn't think they would actually come at 9pm to hand it over, so they might actually get to yours later for all we know.

I don't think they were planning to delivery mine yesterday, tbh. The guy who came in the end brought it on his two wheeler. Massive box

The thin white ones just don't like being bent too much. And Airtel does a fab job of ensuring this while laying out. If you're talking about the main thic black sheathed fibre that is eventually splitted per building, that one is built like a tank. I know this because for me this one came from the terrace of an adjacent complex without any supporting cable. The mumbai head assured me the sheathing includes high tensile cabling inside which negates use of support. Amazing tech if you ask me.

Probably easier with ducting in apartments, right? At least the main cable is solid.

How much are you paying for Gigabit, btw? I think ACT wants 5999 (taxes excluded) here in Bangalore :D

The places that I visited were all saying that "Diwali mein company mein offer tha"

Have you tried seeing if there's any burn in with a 40% grey image?

This is just me, but I don't think you should go out looking for trouble if there isn't anything obviously visible. I'm not babying my TV either, leaving it paused as I always do, and I watch a lot of news channels which is apparently also a bad thing. I wouldn't worry. If there eventually are problems, it'll likely pop up when it's time for another upgrade anyway. Just seeing stuff running on these OLEDs is something else, so just proper enjoy it :D

How much are store quoting for the 65CX now btw?
