  1. From what I read and heard the original The Killing which was/is in Danish is the best. It had it's final season in Netflix few days ago.

It's kinda like 'Top Of The Lake', except it's more focused and has more mainstream appeal.

If you haven't seen 'TOTL', as well, 'The Killing' is a show about one murder investigation lasting entire 2 seasons.... and the third season has another related murder investigation.... not sure about the final season !

I liked TOTL. Hmm. Let me look into the Danish version.

I rewatched it recently and I'm conflicted about it now. It really doesn't seem to hold up today.

Plot or production? There's a certain 90s charm to it :D

  2. Anyone watching Yudh? Quite a strong cast for a TV show. Amitabh Bachan, Kay Kay, Zakir Hussain. Watched the first episode. Looks quite interesting. Politics, corruption based around construction.

Yea, I'd like to know too. Anyone seen the whole show?

  3. Yeah my problem wasn't "chick-lit" side of things, every genre is equal, even battlestar Galactica was a "millitary sci-fi", with a built in male audience, but the characters you think of first when you remember it were Starbuck, Number Six or even Laura Roslin.

What bored me was the blatantly wish-fulfillment of it (how lucky of her to find the best looking soldier is the one that needs to be bandaged), the irritating unnecessary voice-over, the pace that isn't helped by the cliched scenes, and the dull characters.

Was expecting more from Ron Moore.

Yea, it isn't necessarily the genre itself but the fact that it sticks so closely to established/cliched genre tropes. Or so I think.

  4. Steelbook looks fab, but the contents are messed up. Only the 3D version is included. No 2D and no extras. None. Fortunately got it for half the price else would've been seriously pissed. Priced @ 1999, how much would it have cost them extra to include a 2D bluray with additional content ? Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. I don't even have a 3D TV. :(

Don't worry, even the 2D version isn't feature complete. It's missing the commentary track. Pretty much why I'm skipping it.

  5. Birdy is like the Tyler of TV shows .... likes almost anything :P

Are you guys kidding me ? Knick is possibly one of the most realistic depictions of the medical era gone by. The trials and geniuses and madness of the surgeons who invented techniques which were then perfected later. The apparent C-section trial in the beginning, to the spinal anaesthesia in the end (which wasn't even practiced at that time, hence a very very risky proposition) are just mind boggling. I've given 100s of spinal injections till now, and still watching it done with cocaine (!!!), when there was no recorded evidence of the same, gave me shivers.

With the advent of improved techniques and excellent antibiotics, we take surgeries and OT for granted today. But watching how they were invented is just mind boggling.

Edit: And just think of the patients ! Used as scapegoats (they did not have much choice though) to practice what the surgeon apparently thought is the right technique. And I can't stress on the realism. Anybody who has seen a surgery will attest. The bleeding, suction, cautery (even the fumes of the cautery which smell like flesh burning), suturing etc. Perfect, just perfect !

No, no I LOVED the episode! I just couldn't watch the first 10 mins because of the graphic operation scene :D
