  1.

thats how it is in india...i love off beat movies or small budget ones...but those movies are not for the front benchers ,that i know

I am glad that someone here also love our Offbeat Hindi Cinema.. and not only mad about the great great Hollywood.. I am a big fan of everything bollywood. Old, New , Commercial, Classy, Offbeat and even the loud 70s and 80s..

If you like Offbeat Cinema, Have you seen Udaan yet? You might like it.

yes... i have udan...yet to see though but heard it is definitely superb....also checkout some nagesh kukonor's movie -dorr,hyderbad blues( i dont have it but heard from many that it is really good),rockford.

  2. exactly...khamoshi was one of the best movies by him...the songs were terrific..my personal fav being "bahooon ke darmiyaan "

plus excellent performances by all the cast :good:

yup i loved gulal more then dev d too...sad the movie hardly made the news...

kareena kapoor's zero figure and aamir khans new style in ghajini made more news than that movie.

  3. LOL at anyone who says saawariya is a good movie, it was downright boring and stupid. What's up with the overdose of blue everywhere ? And which city in India has only nights and no daylight ? BLACK is the only watchable movie by SLB(not seen guzaarish yet). Rest of his movies - khamoshi, HDDCS can be used as cure for insomniac patients. Can make anyone sleep soundly !

Someone here commented rightly on devdas here, the movie just used gimmicks like massive sets, stellar star cast, bloated art to cover up for its lack of essence. I enjoyed DevD more than 'DevDas'.

first of all that movie is suppose to be that way ....to give that poetic /fantasy to it....you are talking as if other movies show cities in India the way it actually is.....forget about showing indian cities ...they dont even shoot love stories in india ..about 99% of bollywood movies these days specially love stories of a Indian boy and a Indian girl is shot and based on them living in usa's london paris and all...bcoz they actually sell well and makes it more entertaining for regular movie goers who sees these beautiful locations and enjoy in that 3 hrs....real india is not gonna sell well specially in a commercial movies.....main bollywood hardly even shoots a full movie in india...it has now only regional language movies marathi, bengali, gujrati that i see using indian cities mostly.

I personally liked Gulal more than Dev D,

And i loved Anurag Kashyap in Luck by Chance.. He was classic in his cameo

    Gulal was very good. :majesty:

  4. See, I like the way SLB present his movie.. But I have read Devdas the literature and I can tell you SLB goofed up in content and context. Dola Re Dola was outrageously stupid.. Ofcourse the cast, performance, BG and dialogues of the film were good but it lacked the soul.. I suggest you watch Devdas of Dilip Kumar, it's a B&W film.. You will understand what I mean.

As to DevD.. I am a big fan of Anurag Kashyap's movies.. That man is a genious. His storytelling , his grip on camera and lighting and his creativity in moulding a Devdas to Dev D is just Hatsoff genious really.

    HundredPercentSahi.+1 izzat.

he is simply superb....i am always looking forward to his movies...recently his new movie is also coming that girl in yellow boots...cant wait to see that. btw dont know if you have seen these...do check out his paanch and black friday. :majesty:

  5. i agree with you on that sanjay movies are bit off beat and not for regular masses...i simply loved black, khamoshi,Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam by him...but please dont put saawariya in that same category...woh picture dekh kar this feeling came instantly

saw guzaarish..the movie is nice...a bit slow, but liked it...but nothing extra ordinary like the ones i loved before

kaka,i have not seen full movie..will watch it and see why you guys did not like it :scratchchin:

I agree. I slept while watching Sawariya and SLB also disappointed me in Devdas.. Whereas Dev D is a kickass adaptation of Devdas on Cinema..

2 times i saw SLB's devdas coz of the hype and i hated it ...3rd time i saw it again coz one of my friend was shahrukh's huge fan...i mean never seen a fan like him...use to talk like him....act like him infact some even use to call him shahrukh ka ladkha ...so he insisted i watch again over an argument and 3rd time i saw i actually liked it and understand it better. this is what SLb's movie are ......you may actually not understand it and like it ...you may like it but not understand it...its takes you to some totally different kind of experience from usual movies only it depends if you have taste for it or not...and also you cannot compare dev d with SLB's devdas...dev d just the idea came from the devdas novel showing a modern devdas where as SLB's devdas was based on novel totally.

  6. Watched "Eastern Promises" on HD-DVD a couple of nights ago.

What a fantastic flick! Best crime movie in ages.

^^Very, VERY cool film. Probably the best mob film since Goodfellas.

I have goodfellas and eastern promises from quite some time...yet to see them both...eastern promises i was some sample and there is some adult scenes...will have problem so waiting for some day jab ghar mein koi nahi ho.

Saw Guzaarish last night. I loved everything about it except the wait during the interval. Aishwarya and Hrithik steal your heart with a powerful performance. Sanjay Leel Bhansali brings magic through the cast, camera and emotions.. Like an awesome work of Art.. Art Direction looks like a painting a good europeon feel to it. But Hrithik stands out and how as a quadreplegic so bemused by adversity that he can actually look at his own suffering with dispassionate humour. Ash is evergraceful, consistent and carry her act with dignity. The love is expressed in this film through looks, smirks and hints of smothered passion. The other performance that catches your attention is Aditya Roy Kapoor’s. He is natural and vivacious and in-sync with the film’s spirit of celebrating life.. And his hair..Oh I loved the unkemptness .. :)

I recently read Tuesdays with Morris and saw a lot of that book in this film, also some dialogues are straight out of Paulo Coelho literature..

Music is not something you will listen on repeat other then may be " Mil Gayi " but every piece of music and song in ‘Guzaarish’ echoes the film’s incandescent soul.. But Guzaarish is a big, beautiful, dazzling emotional movie experience. One of my Favourite of the year 2010 for sure. Must Watch!

yeah rite.. U didnt comment or repped when I reviewed Guzaarish.. :ack:

okay sorry, repped you. i missed it. good to know you too find SLB's movie artistic. his movie is very well balanced between commercial and art.....others are either totally commercial or totally art.

Saawariya may have looked beautiful but it was a bad bad film. And what kind of director covers up women like Aishwarya and Sonam in overflowing drapes? Fail.

bulla bhai, you are from the time of madhubala, meena kumari ,sharmila etc ...you should be happy that these actresses still remind you of those days :P

btw i actually never got to see full movie...but whatever 20-30 mins i saw i enjoyed a lot..

  7. Guzaarish - 9.5/10

Yes its slow but who cares when the movie is good, you can't help but applaud everyone related to this movie once you are done watching it. The cinematography should get a special mention. Sanjay Leela Bhansali understands art like no other director in Bollywood, he's amazing and his movies are like poems.

If you consider movies and art to be synonymous, then you owe it to yourself for not watching this movie.

    HundredPercentSahi bola +1. Izzat.

I only saw a little of swaariya and absolutely loved it ....i dont want to see that movie on anything other than blu-ray and so waiting to buy it sometime....but whatever the guy is genius got to agree with it.his black was also really good. his movie actually has a story to tell.. with poetic touch added to it. i remember om shanti om had come out along with swaariya and om shanti om got great reviews where as swaariya was being called flop and overdone...om shanti om idiot picture hit and swaariya looked much better than it from the little i could see of that . no offence to anyone but i feel indian movie audience is still not matured that much to understand some of these movies.

  8. saw this move Ajami(2009)...its a israeli-Arab movie...it shows the way of life in jew -arab-christain town of jaffa ...to make it look like documentary ...they chose regular people from daily walks of life...it shows the violence ,the hate ,the fear with which these ordinary people face within such a chaotic situation of israel -arab conflict.....i would highly recommend but watch it if you like foreign languages movies. it can feel slow at times.

  9. my only advice to ali is study hard... Earn loads of money... if true love doesn't find u, atleast lots of hot chicks will :naughty:

oh and stay far far away from Krrish, its for your own good

Don't read IMDB plot don't watch the trailer just go and watch the movie and you'll love it. You'll also know why I am suggesting this movie at this time. Best Shyamalan movie IMO better than the 6th sense. Just make sure you stay away from any information abt this movie

oh cool bro....its a shyamlan movie..that is why i had a feeling ...i heard abt it before...and abt krrish yeh already seen it....other than piggy chops nothing was great abt that movie.
