  1. Enjoyed Transformers 4 a lot. Got exactly what I expected. The action, the special effects and 3D are all amazing. Though the movie didn't exactly fill the whole IMAX screen at any point, it's still definitely worth watching in IMAX :good:.

The people who didn't like the previous Transformers movies better stay away from this one (that is if all the negative reviews haven't scared you off already).

As much as I love Oldboy, I prefer Sympathy for Mr.Vengeance over it. Do watch if you haven't already.

  2. So Transformers is like the "Humshakals" of Hollywood? We give such movies in bollywood so much sh*t but what if people actually find them entertaining as well? They just have different method of experiencing the said "entertainment". Just how we can justify enjoying Transformers I'm sure many can do the same for Humshakals as well.

I don't know how you came to that conclusion (the bolded part) from what I wrote. I only gave Humshakals as an example for a movie which I know is going to be sh*t and how I would never watch it. I don't mind people watching and enjoying Humshakals and I certainly don't mind people calling the Transformers movies sh*t. Everyone has differing opinions after all. There's just no point getting riled up over it.

But when someone says a movie is going to be sh*t and still say they are going to watch it, it just makes me wonder why anyone would willingly do that. I have seen such comments a lot on the internet lately and all of them involving Transformers 4. It just makes me come to the conclusion that people do enjoy it but don't want to express that opinion for some reason or the other.

  3. I know it's going to be sh*t like the last two but still - tickets booked for Bayformers 4 tonight!

I don't get this. Why are you going to watch it when you know it's going to be sh*t? It's not like the movie is going to be any different from the previous ones. It's pretty much guaranteed to be more of the same. I have tickets booked too but I know what I'm going to get and I know I'm going to enjoy it.

When I know something is going to be sh*t (Humshakals for example), I just wouldn't go watch the movie and torture myself to no end. I would just stay away from it.

The only reason I can think of why people still watch Transformers is because deep down they enjoy it but are scared to admit it in the open because if you do so, people automatically brand you as a dumb moviegoer.

Anyway, I have IMAX tickets booked and apparently 60% of the movie is going to fill the whole IMAX screen. Hyped! :wOOtjumpy:

  4. I actually thought the story was pretty good. It sets the movie apart from being a 'mindless action movie' and the action scenes don't feel like 'action for action's sake'. This is the movie Gareth Evans wanted to make but he had to settle for a 'demo' (a.k.a. The Raid Redemption) to get the funding, so this isn't exactly more of the same. I'd say Raid 1 is short prequel story to the actual plot. The movie is more of a crime drama interspersed with action scenes and then it switches to high gear in the last hour and becomes non-stop action. There are some plot holes which I noticed when I watched it again but it doesn't detract from the experience. Try watching the movie in it's original language. It's far better than the horrendous English dub.

Also I don't really get the complaints about acting, you have to understand that some of the 'actors' are actually stuntmen and fight choreographers but the ones who are actually actors did a fine job. I personally thought that the guy who played Bangun (the Indonesian crime lord), Uco (his son) were good and the bad guy was actually quite enjoyable to watch as well. The movie is also shot brilliantly. Just look at the framing of certain shots. The use of colors and lighting is fantastic. A huge step up from the first one. Then again, I don't really like to compare the two. They're very different movies and good in their own way.

Then you have the action which everyone will agree is the strongest part. The final 40 minutes or so are an action lover's wet dream. It just keeps building up. Very intense stuff. Also look at how the car chase is shot. Full of long takes and clean direction. There's one shot where the camera moves into one car, shows us the action then flies out and into another - all in one take. I seriously wonder how they did it. It's something I never noticed in my first watch because I was so absorbed in the action. Amazing stuff.

There are rumours floating around that The Raid 3 will have Tony Jaa...

I really did think the acting was bad (probably because of the terrible dubbing). Bangun and the bad guy were decent but the rest of the cast was so bad, it brought down the movie a lot in my eyes. For the most part, the movie felt like how a Bollywood movie feels when it tries to ape Hollywood.

And the actors being stuntmen isn't really an excuse IMO. When most of your actors are stuntmen, you're better off going for a mindless action movie rather than making them pull off a serious plot.

Agree with you on everything else you said about the action and how beautifully some of the scenes were shot. It really is amazing how they managed to pull off some of the action scenes.

Children of Men had some ridiculously good car scenes as well. The first time I saw them I was literally in awe.

The long one-shot scenes in Children of Men were mind-blowing. With Gravity, I think one-shot scenes have now become a trademark of Cuaron :P

  5. Raid 1 had terrible English dubbing too. Well not terrible overall but cringe-worthy at many places. Thankfully the first time I watched the movie I saw it in the original language ( indonesian?). Good that I didn't watch Raid 2 in theaters. Can't stand useless butchering of a movie with bad dubbing.

And holy sh*t at the movie being 150 mins long  I guess they really went overboard with the plot and story etc. No place for this kind of stuff in a good action movie IMO. Raid 1 was barely 90 mins long I think. No filler crap just pure action.

"Non-stop action from the get go" was one of the USP's of the first Raid. Guess they wanted the sequel to be something more than that. Hope the inevitable third part is more like the first one.

And even I watched the first Raid in its original language. Should have just waited and watched the sequel at home as well :(

  6. I thought Raid 2 was bad for the most part TBH.

It had a bad plot, bad writing, bad acting and just plain horrible english dubbing. I just couldn't take the movie seriously. I wonder if the terrible dubbing made everything else look so bad. All this wouldn't have mattered much to me if the whole thing wasn't f**king 150min long. I remember checking my watch at least 3 or 4 times during the movie.

I thought the subplot involving the new character played by Mad Dog from the first movie was completely unnecessary. They even gave it a cringe-worthy emotional angle  . They could have easily cut this entire subplot from the movie and made it at least 20-25min shorter.

But on the positive side, the action sequences were truly phenomenal. I was repeatedly picking my jaw off the floor during the final fight scenes. So yeah the movie is totally worth watching for the action alone. But I would recommend watching it at home with subtitles.

IMO the first Raid was better, solely because it didn't try to shove all this "plot" BS down my throat. The actors in this franchise just do not have the acting chops to make it work.

  7. Gunpoint is on sale for 2.50. Buy it you fools. Its amazing. One of the best games of last year.

I was waiting for it to get announced for the Vita, but caved in and bought it on steam. 2.5$ is just too irresistible a price point.

Played for around an hour or so and it's simply brilliant. Loving the story so far as well.

I'll still get it for the Vita whenever it gets released though. I feel this game is a perfect match for the Vita.

  8. Gopalan cinemas, as it is close to office, so bunked for couple of hours [emoji13][emoji13]

    LOL :P

The movie itself was indeed very good. Loved that they made the story a little darker compared to the first part. Looks like they took some inspiration from The Lion King and the Empire Strikes Back.

  9. Watched HTTYD2, superb stuff, very predictable story, but shot well.

Wish could watch in 2D, 3D is good but makes the movie extremely dark, and takes out the fun.

Where do you watch 3D movies?

I watched HTTYD2 at Cinepolis and it wasn't dark at all. In fact, the 3D was absolutely fantastic. I can't even imagine watching this movie in 2D.

  10. @ Cash

    Grand Budapest hotel?

    Released??

I mean.. I mean, well you know what i mean.

    Or Are you situated abroad?

    @Sticker boy

Another How to train your Dragon fan here.

    o/

    \o

Incredibly excited for HTTYD2. Its amazing soundtrack alone makes it worth watching in a theater IMO.

And yes, Grand Budapest Hotel has "released"

  11. So what's the next upcoming movie you can watch in theaters? Transformers?

    yep

Transformers (though I'm fully expecting a clusterf**k like the last couple of them)

    Guardians of the Galaxy

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (maybe)

umm....Did everyone forget about How to Train Your Dragon 2 or does no one care about it?

  12.

    book spoiler.

Right on spot. Yes, In the book Rita dies and her dying is the only way to kill omega. and Cage had to kill her himself. Its very dumbed down version of the book and comics to make it hollywood-ish.

I thought that was indeed going to be the case at one point during the movie. Shame they didn't go in that direction.

  13. From what I've read, the basic premise is the same the book but it has a different ending and the story plays out differently as well. Basically it was watered down for the movie to make it more palatable. Also there's more backstory to the Mimics.

Time for me to read the book then.

  14. OK so I really liked Edge of Tomorrow but I'm not able to shake off the feeling that there's a lot of squandered potential here.

    - Though the whole concept is cool, the movie doesn't really throw any surprises at you. I was expecting it to have something new up its sleeves, but it didn't. I would have liked the plot to twist and turn a bit.

    - The ending seemed way too happy to me. I really would have preferred a bleak ending to this movie like how it's not possible to kill the omega at all or maybe how there's no other way to kill it without having Rita die. Something in that vein.

    - This is a nitpick but the movie shouldn't have held back on the gore. It's a f**king war against ultra fast aliens which are flinging their tentacles around like there's no tomorrow. Show me something brutal. Show me a few scenes where Cage is writhing in agony just before he dies because dying is not an easy thing at all. I know there were a couple of scenes where Cage was trying to avoid dying, but they didn't really do much to drive the point home. At least to me.

    @Tyler,

I do believe the ending is indeed a happy ending. If he dies, I think he would just reset back to the day humanity wins the war. It seems like a cool enough power to have. And if he gets tired of all the resetting thing, he could just bleed out or transfuse himself with someone else's blood. That would kill him for good the next time he dies.

@All the people who have watched the movie and read the book,

Does the book have the same plot? Or has the plot been dumbed down in the movie?

All that said, I still enjoyed the movie. It had a cool concept, good performances from both the leads (especially Cruise.....how much more energy does this guy have left in him?) and some very good action set-pieces. Probably going to watch it again tomorrow :P

  15. Wow, EDGE OF TOMORROW was f**king awesome! It's so much better than the trailers made it look. The first half was a bit like Dark Souls. You'll know what I mean when you see it lol. But seriously, fantastic movie - great pacing, awesome action scenes (dem exosuits!), just the right mix of humor and seriousness and both Cruise and Emily Blunt were very good. Especially Cruise, the guy once again gives his best. There wasn't a single dull moment and the movie kept me entertained all the way through. One of the best surprises of this summer, highly recommended!

Also for those who have seen it *spoilers*...

PS: I must also add that the movie has some illogical stuff, it's really not a 'hard' sci-fi movie. Watch it as a 'summer blockbuster' than a serious sci-fi flick and you'll enjoy it more.

    Nice!

Have already booked tickets for today. Can't wait :wOOtjumpy:

    @Dante,

It's already Friday. So it will probably not release there if there are still no shows.

Know exactly how you feel. I was excited for Raid 2 but it ended up not releasing here in my city. Tough luck mate.

  16. I just read a review of Raid 2 on rediff and I don't think I have ever seen such a crappy and misinformed review. They gave it a negative review for being too violent and gory

Also, check out the first line of the review :wallbash:

Godzilla (2014) director Gareth Evans's sequel to The Raid: Redemption begins mere hours after the first one ends.

I'm not posting the link here so it doesn't get any more hits.
