It's applicable on the last piece. I believe the seller was Staples. I just bought AppleCare for my iPad Air for 2990 yesterday. Took One Day Shipping just in case, got it delivered and registered 30 mins ago.

MBP APP gone now though. Back to 18K.

  2. there's no point turning this into a philosophical discussion on corruption as a whole. the guy said that there was no way that a govt. employee can screw you over and i pointed out just 5 ways they can. you know what, if you keep pestering them they will eventually fold but that doesn't mean it's not a hassle. either you got lucky or if not, you seem perfectly happy to wait for many days, visit their offices many times and call their customer support over and over to get your work done and that's cool, but it's not always practical.

about a month ago i somehow lost my wallet which had my driver's license in it. i had to go back to the govt. office to get a new one made. now they have this system here where 'agents' hang around just outside the office and offer to facilitate the process if you pay them a certain amount. obviously, part of this amount goes back to the actual govt. employee who is going to do the work. this way he gets to be corrupt without actually getting his hands dirty. so yea, as soon as i walk into the complex, the agent approaches me and asks for 1500 to get my work done. i say no and stand in line for about an hour to get to the counter. there the guy says he will take my application and i should come back after 2 days. i go there 2 days later and he says that the application has not been processed, come back after 2 hours. i stick around there and 2 hours later he says he's going for lunch, and then disappears for the day i think. next day i go back and he says that there is a waiting period to get a new license and i should come back after the weekend. that's when i realized that he was not going to do my work. by the way, since i couldn't drive, i was going to the place every day in auto rickshaws which is expensive. meanwhile i couldn't drive anywhere and i'm wasting my time going back to the office over and over. in the end, i just paid some agent 1200 bucks and he got my work done in about 45 minutes. i lost more than 1200 bucks in daily trips to the place if you consider the value of my time that got wasted. so yea, this is how it works. it's not a chalta hai attitude, this is the reality of the system that you can't change by banging your head against a wall.

I completely agree with you. Sometimes, there's no way around it. More often than not, it's about convenience. When the system is corrupt, or abnormal, it's your time and energy (being wasted / abused unnecessarily), as opposed to a few hundred INR doing the trick.

Dude, if you speak like that every 1 can make.your life hell, not just the mtnl guys. Instead of talking about probabilities I've told you how things exactly work in MTNL.As I said before there are very efficient counter check mechanism's in mtnl, the lineman or any other guy can not just say anything and get away with it, he is answerable at different level. If he tries to make up a fake story, you can complaint about it when you get the verification call for problem rectification.

The OP clearly said that he gave the money just because lineman said some story to him about fake applications.

As far as OT discussion goes, usually every 1 draws a line about where to bribe and where to not. I have not paid a bribe for long time, that's because for availing a service I.don't pay a bribe coz most of the time I know.my rights, having said that I have paid small bribes for breaking the law, or small tips to hospital guys for looking the other side.

I really do appreciate your hypocrisy. You claim that you haven't paid a bribe in 5 years, aside from "small bribes for breaking the law, or small tips to hospital guys for looking the other side". What gives you the right to re-define the term "bribery". It's not based on your amount, it's the idea itself. So, in short, you pay bribes too, just not for a MTNL connection.

Furthermore, I paid him 800 'cause he justified his breakdown AND because of the "stories", if you will. 100-200 INR as a tip is fine, but his demand for cabling was mentioned on his first visit, which seemed justified. I doubt he'd try to gyp me for an unjustified cost. It's obvious I'd check up on it and complain if it didn't seem justified. Just reiterating that he didn't "blackmail" me into paying him 800 INR, there was an effective breakdown behind it.

I've yet to verify the cost of cabling (but it seems fair cause the 500 INR that we pay during our application shouldn't cover that cost), but with a bit of math, it seems justified to me. The guy had over 20 years of experience under his belt and seemed pretty genuine to me.

I just don't appreciate how you'll are okay with "doling out 200 INR for chai pani", but as long as the figure has another 0, all of a sudden, it's panic mode. Rates, in our society, are decided as per your economic stature. I've personally experience discrepancies in carpenter, plumber and electrician rates as per my residential location. So yeah, if you pay 100 INR as chai pani, and a fellow at SOBO pays 200 INR, I believe that may as well just be the "expected rate". 100 is acceptable by your definition, 200 by his.

  3. Dude, I live in india , and there is not a single way that Mtnl guys can do anything to him if he refuses to pay a bribe.

I have used the Mtnl broadband connection for 3 years, just got it disconnected recently. From your statement it seems that you pretty much decided to bribe the guy on your own, just because he made some story. Let me tell you how things operate in MTNL, and you can screw them super big time even if there is one procedural lapse.

The guy who you are talking about is most probably the lineman, he just cannot go on an say that application is not genuine, if he does that, and if you are the guy who wants to do the things easy way, you can just complain with the linemans name about the incident on their helpline. Now some of you will most likely say that nothing is going to happen from the complain, well you are wrong, you will most likely get a call within next day asking about the complain, and then the lineman would have to do the installation within 4 days or his a*s will be on the line. When you make an order booking and the installation still does not happen you will get multiple calls from head office as to why installation did not take place.

You might think that he will screw your connection after the installation, he can't, because after installation when you make a 'line' complain, you will get a minimum of 2 calls, one of which would be on your alternate number asking whether the complain is rectified or not, and after the complain is rectified, I.e. line is working again, the lineman would himself make a call from your number to the head office to confirm that line is working and you would again have to verify to the head office that complaint has been resolved.

I would have understood if you would have happily paid the lineman 50-100 rs as tip for the installation, but paying him 800 out of your own accord, and then calling it as a bribe looks pretty lame.

Btw all this complain process is can be done from the phone , without leaving the house and tales couple of days. If you walk into the exchange and ask to complain to the exchange manager and tell him about the issue your complain would be resolved within a day or few hours. FFS, stop doling out money to every Tom dick and Harry and then say you have bribed to get the service.

Do you have any document to prove that the installation was covered? I was informed that the wiring has to be paid for separately. We needed 40M of cabling. Secondly, YOU DO "dole out money" to everyone. Your watchman, your MTNL Line man, your Post man as well. You do it during Diwali, Ganpati etc. It's not a necessity, but you do it nonetheless, don't you?

Moreover, complaining at the cost of causing misery to myself is not something that I fancy. You may have a lot of time and patience at hand, I don't. The line man CAN reject and/or delay applications, it's a fact. Complaining at the exchange isn't a practical solution either. Infact, the mid-level guys there 'caused a ruckus over my application even though I OWN the apartment. Everyone is out to fend for themselves, it's as simple as that. I went straight to the Exchange manager and discussed it with him, with 4 people telling him not to let the application go through, I managed to get it done without paying a penny, 'cause my documents were in order.

200 for the MTNL line man and 100 for the technician is a fair amount. Maybe you have a way with Marathis or you speak their language. I don't fancy having a guy disconnecting my line and/or blaming it on a tech issue for a few rupees. Maybe you've had a better batch of folks come your way, I'd rather not risk it. The time invested and the aggrevation cause to try and get a complain across is not worth more than 800 INR for me, it's really that simple.

Finally, I'm not sure about your cabling process, but at 10/m for the cabling, I think 500 INR was a fair price to pay for the cable, which apparently is not included as part of the installation.

So FFS, stop telling me hot to spend my money and handle my technicians. I paid up for my convenience and believe that his demand was genuine when it came to cabling. As for the 200 I dished out to him, it's justified for a personal rapport to develop. I have his direct number and he said he'd drop in anytime there's an issue. A small investment with a long-term return.

I'm glad you saved yourself a pretty penny, but it really isn't your concern as to how I "dole out my money". Consider it a commission, bribe or tip, I can justify it either way.

  4. Yes seriously, have been a MTNL user for 15 years now, everything in my home right from phone, mobile to internet is MTNL, they do su** in many department but paying bribe is not one of them, i have never paid a single penny in bribe to ever get work done from them, the guy is obviously looting you off and you should bring that to the notice of the MTNL guys ASAP.

I had an MTNL line at my granny's place for 3 decades. It's different for different people. A new connection application is really simple and an easy process from their end. It's the reps that cause issues. They're old school, 40+ guys who're still trying to work like it's a monopoly. He took 500 cash and said that's for the cabling, MTNL only provides the electrician. Then he asked for goodwill and told me the dreaded stories about cancellations etc., so I popped him 200 INR. Another 100 INR for the guy who came in (when I wasn't home), entered my user ID and password on my ADSL router, and left. I still don't know why they charge 500 INR at the time of application if the cabling is separate.

The additional 500 INR i paid was for a deposit that came into my bill directly.

bro that guy is seriously ripping you off :threatenlumber: , even im my area MTNL had the best plan but never ever faced single problem with them, hell they had been so awesome that in case of booking a compliant with their stupid cc they show up on the door within 2-3 hours in my area.

I'm not saying their service is sh*t. It's really good, I have his direct number etc. I'm just saying that greasing your CSR's palm when he comes in for a NEW LINE installation is a necessity. I paid him for a new connection, not to come over and fix an issue with my broadband or landline etc.

Anyway, i'm on Reliance now. They came with the application 2 days ago, installed it within 24 hours and the connection is dead already. Apparently some major issue in my area (Lokhandwala Andheri), and it'll be fixed by the 3trd of November, LOL. I'm glad my MTNL Triband is still active.

  5. What do you mean by that??

    Seriously?

Even I am not sure what he means. I mean why the fuk do you have to bribe to get a BB connection from mtnl? Apply once and they revert to you immediately. Or else you can always walk down and have a word in the local exchange.

"Have a word with the local exchange" LMAO! Seriously, I needed that! I doubt you have an MTNL connection, if you did, you wouldn't react this way. First of all, the guy they dispatch handles the entire area. IF you don't agree to grease his palms, he's going to forward a report to MTNL stating that the applicant isn't genuine. Infact, he told me these things in my OWN APARTMENT. He was telling me how he got XYZ number of applicants to run around 'cause they didn't seem genuine. So yeah, I HAD to cough up the moolah. When you don't have a temporary connection, you're desperate. They had the best plan at that point, so yeah, i had to pay him. I'm sure now you know "why the fuk i have to bribe the guy".

are you new in india? there are about a million ways that the mtnl people can make life hard on him if they want a bribe and he doesn't oblige.

Yup! They even go to the extent of disconnecting your line randomly. You have to file a complaint following which it's the SAME fellow who shows up. Obviously, he won't come on time and/or fix it permanently thereby causing a lot of grief and distress.

  6. I'm currently on the MTNL Xpress Combo 600 Plan. Sucks monkey ba**z. Their supposed 512kb connection won't even buffer videos, although the DL speed is pretty consistent. I've been using it for 3 months now. Paid 1300 officially and another 800 unofficially to get this POS connection.

Only pro I see here is that the MTNL bill is a crucial and widely accepted document for address proof. LOL!

BTW, applied for Reliance connection yesterday. They said they'd install it today, let's see. Will keep you guys posted!

  7. ^^ ur living room must be quite big, i find the 40" TV in my living room, quite sufficient .... maybe depends on teh viewing distance i guess !

It isn't really about practicality anymore. I'm using the 43" in my bedroom with a viewing distance of around 9'. My living room is long, around 18' in length. Thing is, I do my gaming and watch my BR's in the bedroom, thus, want a bigger tele for it. However, it's going to be a while before I jump on a 50" TV. A decent Panny plasma will set me back almost a lac.

Your girlfriend would be quite happy with 43 inches .. :P

Sure, if she was Sunny Leone, lol.

  8. for the 500 kills trophy

found the following tips at: ps3trophies.org (is it allowed to quote from other websites?? I dunno)

** If you have undead nightmare you can do it on top of il presidio in about 15 - 20 minutes no problem!

use the cannon most north on the castle at this point they spawn pretty fast just look away for 10 sec and

they are back and it is funny to see them fly off the mountain

    ** with RDR only:

Teleport to El Matadero, go inside the town, find the building with the mounted gun (this mounted gun goes 360 degrees), climb up the ladder and use the Browning mounted machine gun. Kill any human passing by the roads on horses or any animals you see in town to become wanted. If you cant find any living things to kill, throw a piece of dynamite towards the house on your front right, the explosion will trigger the wanted mode. Get 250 kills then take a break, the whole session of 500 kills will take 60 to 90 minutes. You will eventually die but you will respawn near the town and you can continue your killing spree. Also those mexican federales will use A Lot of profanity towards you in spanish.

They're both great tips, thanks a tonne. I do have Undead Nightmare. Guess I'll finish all the other trophies, then start Undead Nightmare and get this one right in the end. I don't want to spend 90 minutes trying to get this trophy.

  9. Anyone manage to get their Plat in RDR? I've earned most of the trophies. My only qualm is the "Kill 500 people with a mounted weapon" trophy. I just can't get a bounty high enough to have a constant flow of coppers attacking me so I can cannon ball their as**s. Anyone know a work around? And please, for the love of God, don't suggest I keep replaying the mounted weapon story based missions to compound my kills.

  11. congrats Mr.devil from scale models to actual stuff, nice going Bro...

We are also hunting for a car, it is going to boil down between Cruze and Elantara it seems...

Athek, why not consider the Laura vRS? They've got some SUPER discounts on the vehicle. I'm aware that Skoda has a horrible rep for it's A.S.S. However, things have changed drastically. I. personally, hadn't encountered any issues with them when we owned the 1.9PD Laura L&K. Skoda has closed down a couple of dealerships. Moreover, my experience with Senator and Autobahn (In Mumbai) has been really good, a lot better than Hyundai.

Just visit the showroom, TD the vehicle and go from there. You ought to visit T-BHP and check out some of the threads on the facelifted Laura's and the A.S.S. No one's complaining, although every now and then someone has a gripe, but that applies to all brands (Maruti being an exception).

On a personal note, I feel that the 1.8 TSi is the best drive south of the new Ultimat3. Sure, the Laura petrol is missing out on a few key features like Electronic Seats, Sat Nav, Steering mounted Audio Controls and Cruise Control, but hey, it's got a fantastic engine and is built like a tank. Give it a whirl before you decide to plonk your money on a VW or Hyundai (No badge value).

    Just my 2 cents.

  12. God! That takes shopping to a whole new level. I'd love to "swipe my phone" when I go shopping. Would make life a lot easier. You step out in your tracks and a cell phone, no wallet cause you're out for a stroll, see something you like and "Boom!".

    Me jelly!

  13. The "Androidified" ones or the Argyle ones? Just curious. I didn't like Cruzerlite being written on it big so I went with the clear Diztronic TPU Rev3 case which only had a small logo. Then I went and got an Amzer case with the stand and found later that that one has AMZER written in bold white lettering on the stand

I'm talking about the TPU Androidified ones. They also have a Persona series in TPU, the offer's valid on both. The crappy part's that they charge almost $17 to ship x3 cases to Mumbai :(

Personally, I love the concept and the funk offered by the CLite casings. Moreover, I'm a fan of branding. I'd ordered the Capdase 2Xpose edition, luckily it was COD, they gave me a call to confirm and I cancelled it. The CL one's are well worth it compared to the Xpose series which looks way too vanilla.

FYI, seems like the Amzer's have received a lot of bad reviews. The quality ain't as good as one would expect, doesn't fit right and has a "stench" to it, supposedly. Then again, the price at which they offer it makes it tempting for most folks.

You want in for one of the cases?
