  1. Ya, but will that be an overkill for what i want?

BTW has anyone tried using the mobo optical to A/V receiver? Howz the sound?

Im in 2 minds about buying a new mobo with optical or a sound card. The gigabyte mobos seem to have blu-ray support for audio, that i could channel through toslink?

asus Xonar DX .. amazing card for its price .. you can find it for 3.7to 4k .. check out its review at techenclave.com
  2. Well i did say "budget" laptop.

I dont want to fix a budget, coz I always land up paying more and buying the "better" one.

But if you insist < 30k Max: 35k

    Someone please help!

Min Specs Im looking for is 17", HDMI out(for my LCD), 3gb.

Need it primarily to use SQL + .Net.

Apparently HP is worst (keeps on crapping)

Maybe it need not be budget. One of my relative is coming back from Dubai/Bahrain. Any idea if laptops can be bought cheaper there (with warranty that works over here)?

  3. Budget! Always post budget in a PC/laptop query.

    Impossible to advice without that.

  4. Say, can anyone recommend a good budget Laptop for my development needs?

I need to have SQL 2000 server running on it and shouldn't drag with a few software loaded.

Although gaming is optional, I would prefer a >=15 screen size.

  5. Buffalo WG125 (very difficult to find)

    Netgear WGR614 (basic router)

Linksys WRT54G2 (better range than Netgear)

Ya i got the WRT54G2 few days back. Had some trouble setting it up (Took me a day and half to realize what the problem was!!)

And after 2 days of bashing my head around to get a wireless connection with the PS3, bought a 10 mtr cable and hooked it to the router.

But I am getting a good wifi connection on my laptop around the house.

  6. Buy the WRT54G2...very good router!!!..also call up ur ISP and then ask them to lock the router mac for net use!!

Apparently my isp can have only one mac per connection. So I can't add the router's mac. And changing it is too much hassle.

The easier way would be to change the mac on the router, which im sure has already been done here.

  7. Usage is only for the PS3 (along with my PC obvsly).

PC in one room and PS3 in the other, about 20 ft apart, with a wall in between.

Imp part is since my isp uses macid to lock my user account, along with username/pwd, the router should allow me to change its mac (I guess), for it to work.

  8. ^ :ko2:

So I need to buy a Wifi router first. Anything else? Any recommendations(model)?

See I have an Isp that uses a dialer with username/pwd. Plus my PC mac is locked onto my account.

    Cable net, to be precise.

  9. @sundeep do you need a complete modem/router or do you just need a wifi acess point? If simply a wifi acess point then look for a linksys wrt54g it has pretty good range and will cover the whole house easy. For a modem/router a netgear 834 is pretty good.

Noob Q: Is a wifi access point for a motherboard with wifi?

I have a GA P35C Mobo with one lan port and no wifi. How do i go about connecting it to my Ps3?

Another Noob Q: Ive a spare network card. If i connect that as well, run a ethernet cable to the PS3, would i be able to share the connection on the PC?

  10. Cooling stuff is needed if you decide to overclock your PC to the extreme. You can still do little tweaking with your standard heatsink. Get the best SMPS and Cabinet, else you will be tearing your hair out later.

If you don't have any space concerns, avoid getting those tiny cases which need foreceps to navigate inside.

If on a budget get the CoolerMaster Extreme Power 600W (around 2900/-) and the Chieftec BH series cabinet.

  11. Ok, had to move my PC to another room and the cable isn't long enough.

Am thinking of getting a Wireless router for PC and PS3. Have Pacenet cable (no modem).

    Is this possible?

Does it effect the browsing/gaming speed?

Can I use it for my PS3 without switching on my PC?

Is this possible with Pacenet (incase someone is using it)

I havn't seen a router in my life and have no idea how it works!

  12. ^ Yeah, just blow the dust and reseat the ram. Disable fast boot option from your bios and let it check the ram on boot.

Maybe your motherboard sensors are at work. Check for overheating.
