Scootys.. All the dangers of a bike but none of the badass.

^^ I disagree mate. I find him very good in acting and not at all forceful. I admit that part of it has to do with the amazing movies he has acted in, along with the directors but that should not mean, rather does not mean that he was carried over just by them. All his better movies have been low budgeted and unknown (when the movies came out) to masses film makers, had he been average the movies would not have been as rated, even by cult film standards. Am not saying he is Amir Khan levels of acting but amongst the young (well younger- he is 37) actors he is the best of the lot.
Watch Shanghai. He played the role of a sharp, badass bureaucrat with élan, the tamil accent was pretty good too. Best thing i like about him, apart from the choice of his movies, is his natural-ness at act. Have a look at his lesser known work- Socha na tha (debut), 1.40 ki local and Aisha. All of them tanked at box office and did not receive much appreciation from intelligent critics (movie werent that good), but just going by acting, he was very very watchable.
@Nemo - How is the book? I tried to read it. Got very bored.
I liked it. It does not have a sharp plot interspaced with cod moments so i can see how anyone would find it boring. I liked it because it gave a socio political commentary by imposing a big 'what if' scenario and showcasing how different countries and their leadership will respond to the calamity, along with some well placed individual moments right from the middle of the action.
It is not a thriller, nor is it a pure zombie exploitation novel with copious violence and scares. It just happens to use that backdrop to show people and govt's reaction to such an outbreak. Replace it with any other wide spread and unanswerable calamity like aliens, rapid climate change, etc and the story wont change much. That is what i liked about the book.

Dhanush
cool ! i did not pay any attention to the movie before up and till couple of days ago when i learned it has abhay deol in it (best actor by far as of now). saw a few trailers and looked fun, even the kolaveri guy looked very natural for a native of UP. I know i am basing it of a trailer but his dialogue delivery did not look forced, and the voice did not show overt signs of being dubbed. Am commenting about dubbing as the voice was accent neutral, did not have the eastern up accent (sad, cause character needed it) but also did not have a south indian one- a massive plus considering the story line.

@Mean machine. Havent seen the movie, plan to do it soon, so cant really comment on differences. But your questions wrt the book are answered as follows-
Virus originated in China. And that is that. Not much explanation is given.
Russia was one of the worst affected area as due to its size and location hordes of zombies came into the country from eastern europe and china and were difficult to contain as terrain is quite vast. Their army too rebelled and a majority of their weapon manufacturing facilities were over run. They did have the advantage of a massive soviet/cold war era arsenal of weaponry but those guns were quite old and did not function as well. Siberian cold wave helped them by immobilizing zombies during winter but it also meant that many zombies were left frozen in wilderness that could come into action upon thawing at any time later. Basically there was a lot of fighting, massive loss of human life due to bad coordination and the area is still not totally free from zombies. Maybe this is the meaning of "not the end" quote ?
The ending is open ended. Post war the earth's population is drastically reduced, heavy environmental damage that would be long lasting and its effects are unknown. Many governments collapsed and many new alliances (hitherto unfathomed) were formed. There was also rise of a sort of 'new world order' with new regimes taking over in parts like the Holy Russian Empire that sought to reform the USSR.
I really dont think how they'd have made a movie true to the book as book is more a documentary with many point of views. It does not have a single brad pitt hopping across continents having a little sub plot of its own. Now for movie you cannot put a face as big as brad pitt and relegate it behind the camera (so as to speak) and put individual stories in main focus.
The way they went with the movie having a single pov is the best way for it. a Documentary type flick would not have had the budget to do justice to presentation....

why is Reina being let go ? has he really regressed that much ? two seasons ago he was tipped to replace VDS at united before they lapped up De gea. Keepers dont fall off that quickly. How old is he ?

Thought of posting them in the jokes thread but it made more sense here.

I know that, but still 11 million GBP for a goalkeeper is pretty big. More a case of prioritising your spending.
CHELSEA-ADIDAS new deal worth 450 million USD.

-
11 million dafuq

i can understand big-ger clubs going for that that money if the keeper is really special (mignolet can still be epic, but he is just 'good' as of now), but liverpool with its more pressing needs at other positions spending it on a gk is o_0

No. The last thing she would like to find out is that she trusted you with keeping something private and you wrote it in an open forum.
This.
the whole matter is very private, if not for you then certainly for her. I dont understand the practice of people publishing their familial, personal crisis on open forums (but what ever rocks their boats: i dont judge), however disclosing it to family- particularly the person who is most affected by said crisis- is not a smart thing to do.

spiritual prequel you mean ? if so then apologies.

but he was just a shade over 50. one has to be really bent out of shape to get a fatal heart attack w/o warnings at that age.

I dont know how, but he was called to 'The Rodeo' (CP, Delhi) to click some pictures of the restaurant. The manager asked him what all equipment he needed and some other things. After the conversation ended, the manager asked him for his business card.
He replied that he was all out when in reality he doesnt have business cards.
This was like 3 weeks ago. Few days ago, I asked my cousin what was happening with that prospect photoshoot, and I was told "NOTHING".
He hasnt even started on getting business cards printed.
If this is his attitude towards his 'passion', I dont know what he meant when he said that his ambition and career come before my cousin.
Bhai bura mat man-na but ye sab padh kar lagta hai ki vo tum sabko ch***ya bana raha hai.

What a f**king loser
Just end it. End it now. No matter how serious your cousin is, that guy is un-marriagable. BTW Singhs in UP are Thakurs, not Jatts, right? My wife is from UP and she is Singh and she is Thakur. Is Thakur=Jatt?Anyways just end the damn relationship. You never know wtf he will click with that stupid camera

UP is very big. Area and population wise. singhs can transcend many casts. Dishu's native place is in western UP, close to Haryana.. hence jat.

But jat bhai ke gharwale agar izzjat ki baat samajh gaye toh ? Anyhoo, best of luck.

If you cant say something constructive, say something devastating ! Is the motto sire.
But seriously, think before you act. I dont need to tell you what all can be stirred up in our part of the world based on pyar-mohabbat and caste tensions.

The Old Cricket Thread

Regarding indoor stadiums; the whole concept is total ch**t for cricket. Like someone said, wind and cloud cover play a big of role in the sport and taking those factors away will kill a lot of fun. Other thing is balls/shots hitting the roof, seems comical but it has happened. Back in early 00s australia experimented with roof over a stadium and hosted couple of international matches iirc (not sure), no such thing happened there but they were having a lot of domestic matches under roofs in that season and quite a number of players were hitting shots that hit the roof and came down, Afridi (playing in oz in an unofficial match and for some domestic team apart from that) managed that a number of times.
It turned out to be a tricky situation, sometimes toh fielders even caught the ball as it was coming down. Declaring it a dead ball solved nothing. Another thing is keeping insides of such stadiums at bearable temperatures. England, nzl is fine but imagine covered stadia in subcontinent
One can put air conditioning but the kind of expense that would incur would be very very steep. And if you put roof in one country, you would have (in theory) to install it in major stadia in all nations so as to maintain parity, it is not that rains dont wash out matches in india.
All in all, very impractical.
