Cricket World Cup 2023 starts on Oct 5, 2023. We played a prediction contest for football world cup in 2022. Let's play a similar thing for this one as well. As we know, cricket results and scoring works differently from football, I had to make changes how points will be gained. I think it will be fun if we have some passionate and serious people playing actively. I'm running 3 different things at the same time [IVG FPL, FIFA23 tourney and now this one]. I hope everything goes fine. 1. RULES: 1.1 Participants will submit their predictions for each day's matches [Match Day schedule]. 1.2 Deadline for submitting predictions for a Match Day will be before the start of the first match of the day. 1.3 Predictions will include 2 parts: Part 1 = Match Result = Match winner (participants are allowed to predict a Tie as well) Part 2 = 50s Outcome= No. of batters who will score 50 or more runs from each team. Participants may predict more 50s to be scored by the team they predict to lose a match. 1.3.1 Even if a batter scores a century/double century, his score will also be considered as a 50+ score for our contest. 1.4 While posting predictions, please don't interchange Home and Away teams. Team names are arranged in alphabetical order for each match. 1.5 Participants can post their predictions for the entire league stage at once if they want to, but it will be more fun if we make predictions on daily basis (or even weekly basis if someone's too busy) 1.6 Participants are NOT allowed to EDIT their posts after submitting their predictions. If, for some reason, they want to change their predictions before deadline, just strike through the text on the old post and make a new post with updated prediction. 1.7 Only completed matches will be valid. A match with reduced overs (or DLS method) will also be considered complete as long as there's a result. 1.8 Abandoned, Washed-out or No Result matches will NOT be considered. 1.9 Super overs are also invalid for this contest. 2. PREDICTION FORMAT: Example: Match 1 England vs New Zealand For Match Result: If I want to predict England to Win and New Zealand to Lose: England vs New Zealand = 1-0 [this 1-0 way of predicting winner will help me a lot while calculating points] If I want to predict New Zealand to Win and England to Lose: England vs New Zealand = 0-1 If I want to predict a Tie: England vs New Zealand = 0-0 For 50s Outcome: If I want to predict England will score more 50s than New Zealand, I must tell number of 50s by each team as well (and my guess is England will score 6 50s and New Zealand will score 2): 50s = 6-2 (England vs New Zealand) If I want to predict New Zealand will score more 50s than England (and my guess is England will score 0 and New Zealand will score 3 50s): 50s = 0-3 (England vs New Zealand) If I want to predict both teams will score equal number of 50s, I must tell number of 50s by each team as well (and my guess is both team will score 4 50s each): 50s = 4-4 (England vs New Zealand) 3. POINTS SYSTEM: 3.1 Correct Match Result = 5 points 3.2 Correct 50s Outcome = 3 points* 3.3 Exact 50s (Correct 50s Outcome + Correct number of 50s by each team) = 7 points 3.4 Incorrect Result = -1 point 3.5 Missing a prediction = -1 point NOTE: No penalty for an "Incorrect 50s Outcome" *It is very important to get a Match Result right because points for a "Correct 50s Outcome" can only be gained after correctly predicting a "Match Result". However, if you get "Exact 50s" right you will always get 7 points even if your Match Result prediction is wrong for this particular match. I will make a leaderboard and we will see who will top it after 48 matches. It is normal for some people to lose interest midway if they feel they are too far behind and cannot win it. I understand that, but my suggestion is... "Please only join if you think you can keep your interest up even if you fall behind on the Leaderboard". There's a penalty for missing a prediction (-1 point). And, if someone misses 5 predictions in a row, they will be removed from the contest. Sorry! 4. So, if someone swaps team names and submit their prediction like: New Zealand vs England = 1-0 It will still be considered as a 1-0 in favour of England, which means a Win for England. Rules may need to be added or changed. 5. FIFA23 The Medallic Tourney It is a team based tournament and we are gonna try a new format. As the name suggests, players will win medals according to their performance in a match. Players will be divided into 2 categories: SEED 1 (Top players) and SEED 2 (Average players) based on their overall skill level. The details of the league are as follows: Each participant must be aware of all the rules listed below. Insufficient knowledge of the rules cannot be used as an excuse for breaking the rules. The entire tournament is based on fair-play practised by the participants because everything cannot be regulated by the OC. PRIZE: ₹3,000. We will make a group on WhatsApp. 5.5 It is important both players must post the scores on the same day after finishing the game in the tournament thread. 5.6 If possible, please play both games against an opponent on the same day. You two may not be able to come online at the same time again. 5.7 League table will be updated from time to time. You must keep track of your W-D-L and GF-GA stats. In case, I make a mistake it might cost a player a few places in the standings. 6. Lag related rules: 6.1 As we know, lag is integral part of online gaming, there will be lag in almost every match so be prepared to play in lag if it appears. But, if there's an unplayable lag (and not just the normal lag) in a match, players can restart their match with mutual agreement. Try to change the host, it might help. Please be aware if your opponent has scored a goal in the meantime it will stand. For example, player A is facing lag while playing against player B. Player B has the possession and player A presses pause button the game will only stop after a foul/ball goes out of play. If player B scores a goal in the meantime, in the next game player A should give player B his one goal advantage back by scoring an own goal then play the rest of the match normally. But, and it's a big but, it is advised to all players if you have the possession in the early stages of a match and opponent presses the pause button, like in first 10 minutes game-time, please pause the match & wait (remember fair-play?) and if you don't receive any message from opponent regarding lag, just play normally after the pause times out completely. I know it's quite a long point but it has to be explained to avoid any conflict/dispute arising later on. 6.2 If a disconnection happens, consider every match as 93-minute long (it includes the 3 minutes of the injury time also) please play the remaining minutes in the next game. For example, if a DC happens at 62' in a game. You should play 31 minutes (93'-62' = 31') in the supplementary game. The first 31 minutes will count. There's no need to play the entire duration of the supplementary game. It is important to understand this point, and I hope it's clear to everyone. 7. Discipline rules: 7.1 We take the discipline very seriously. Guilty may be disqualified and/or banned from the future tourneys hosted by the OC. 7.2 Please play fair and be nice to your fellow IVG members. 7.3 Last man sliding tackle from behind is NOT allowed in our tourneys. Please DO NOT JOIN if you disagree with this rule. 7.4 Decision of the OC will be final. 7.5 Some OC members may not be present actively here in the thread but they will be around if a situation/dispute arises. 7.6 Abusing, bullying and/or threats against the other players are not tolerated. 7.7 Basically, nothing bad is tolerated.
