    OH MY GOD

XSX and XSS have the same I/O controller chip as Xbox One!!! Meanwhile, PS5 engineers developed the I/O unit from ground up to elevate the already 2x faster SSD to like 50x-100x faster data streaming which is practically possible in games

after this, if any Xbox Series consoles have any dignity left, they shouldn't get into console performance wars with the mighty PS5

Xbox Series is basically last-next gen - a lazy haphazard throwing together of PC parts

PS5 is real next gen, where actual engineering innovation was achieved

Dude, why are you simply baiting in this thread? I own both the consoles and personally speaking don’t care which is superior. By your logic, the PS2 was inferior to the og Xbox because the Xbox was more powerful/forward looking in design. I still don’t understand why some people have an issue with the existence of competition. You buy what you want and just enjoy the games. It’s not like anyone is forcing anyone to buy an XSX.

There is always bound to be something better than the other. Just get what you want or where your friends are and enjoy playing the games. I am not defending Xbox, just don’t understand the hate.

Sure, PS5 is more innovative in the IO aspects and wrt controllers, but leaving aside the technical aspects, does it really matter? I can argue for the QoL improvements the Xbox OS has compared to the PS5 but then it’s all subjective. But at the end of the day, as long as the Xbox or Ps5 plays the game I want it to well, why should I even complain?

just watching the video, here’s the biggest disaster with this console

The chip that handles I/O is from Xbox One. That’s right

imagine using parts from a 2013 console in 2021

Xbox one was weak and now it’s parts are being used in XSS that makes XSS unviable for next gen

also, 720p after 2-3 years  every TV and monitor in India is 1080p or more right now

in 2-3 years, you’ll get 4k TV super cheap

720p has no place in this world now, unless you play on phones

It might have the same chip. But the chip handles nVMe bandwidth and gives comparable speeds to XsX. How does it even matter?

    Completely wrong comparison

x1x and ps4 pro were the high powered consoles with extra horsepower than base consoles

meanwhile xss is lagging behind right out of the gate. It’s hit or miss

Console will remain viable because the overall CPU and GPU are decent if somewhat lacking. But the resolution and graphical fidelity will start taking bigger hits.

Expecting 720p max res with lower settings later in the cycle.

Based on comments, people seem to agree. ?

    • Game consoles are becoming a lot like mobile phones in that we marvel at all the new features and gimmicks for a short time at first, but eventually revert to just using the key features.
    • As someone who complained about MS not creating a new UI when the XSX, I now respect that decision. I find the PS5 UI unintuitive and don’t even even get me started on the party chat system.
    • I actually prefer the PS4 UI and folders, come sony wheres the folders...
    • A someone who always hated the Xbox UI and loved the PS4 UI the situation has now reversed. The Series X UI while boring as all hell has finally become fast, intuitive and easy to navigate. The PS5 UI looks much sexier and ‘now’ but is consistently counter-intuitive, burdened by extraneous gubbins and plain annoying.
    • Interesting article. I suppose someone's experience of the PS (or xbox for that matter) UI depends on their expectations of it. Personally I can find my games okay, the apps I want to use and the store then I'm a happy camper. All the other doodads are superfluous to me.
    • I'm lucky enough to have box new machines, and as much as I like the visual fidelity of the PS5 UI, it really is a ballache to use. The horizontally scrolling cards are a hopeless way to view trophies, for example, and the layout and discoverability in the store is woeful.

    • Obviously don't have a PS5 yet so can't really comment on that but it feels like the Xbox UI has finally met its potential as it is now fast, snappy and responsive on the S which it absolutely was not on the One. Sometimes better to just improve what you have rather than try and change it completely.

    • From an overall usability point of view I think the PS5 UI is a step backwards from what the PS4 had.

    • I like the PlayStation 5 UI, but I also think it still needs a lot of work. I think in many ways it's a step back from the PlayStation 4 UI, with many basic features missing. For example, it took them so long to add folders to the PS4 UI – to see the PS5 UI again launch without folders just boggles my mind.

    • I think MS made the right decision after having played with both the pa5 and series consoles since launch. The PS5 has a shiny interface with some attempts at innovation, but like the author of the article says, I just dont use them. Where as I use quick resume daily.

I agree with you. Shutting down my PS5 is a pain and the fact that there is no easy way to organize games is still a bummer.

XSX with the quick resume menu is just a lot more intuitive. Plus I can group my games based on whether it is for X1, X360 and so on.

no, that would apply only if SSDs were in consideration

It’s about game design capabilities for devs

PS5 I/O is so good and fast that, for example, the world can be designed in extraordinary amounts of detail because I/O can enable PS5 to stream incredible amounts of data for example, while player is turning around

this kind of huge data streaming on the fly, as a player turns, is only possible because of PS5 custom I/O complex

so when PS5 only exclusives are being made, the super detailed data heavy world would only work on PS5 because of its data streaming/loading capabilities on the fly

Still doesn't make sense. What you see while playing a game is loaded on to the RAM. The streaming aspect is controlled by SSD bandwidth and transfer speeds. So if I can't fill my RAM with enough data needed to render the screen, it takes some more time to load.

By what you are saying, Sony is going to design a world that would require a refill of the entire RAM everytime you turn your head. If the world is so rich, then PS5 will run out of space even before you play for a few mins :P Hyperbole, but you get where I am going.

The only place where it will help is if you want to transition across worlds as in Rift Apart. But how many games would actually do that? If you constantly do that, immersion would be lost. All said and done, what Sony has done with Kraken is really good. But it is not going to result in stuff that is miles ahead of competition. Better that XSX? Probably yes.

    Answer: PS5 I/O complex

This custom piece of hardware is not present in Xbox Series console and won’t be present in the majority of PCs

That’s why PS5 only exclusives likely won’t come to PC. It’s similar to Rift Apart, Demon’s Souls, Returnal etc not working on a PS4 simply because of lack of hardware

Still don't understand why exclusives cannot be ported over. What's the worst that will happen? A couple of loading screens?

I've faced it as well. Juddery camera and sometimes the colors or art style makes me feel nauseated. It happens rarely but it's mostly triggered when I play such games for longer durations. The first game where I felt like this (as far as I can remember) was Half Life.

Yep. This is the reason I've never completed HL2 till today.

Strangely never had the problem with L4D2 or Portal 2. Only Half Life 2.  But it was really bad. I couldn't play more than an hour without needing to go lie down.

I have faced the same issue with certain FPS like Half Life and Portal (sometimes). But never with Far Cry or Doom. Probably to do with corridor based games.

I found that using speakers helps. Headphones increased the sense of claustrophobia for me.

Yeah, but I wish this was simply in the settings like on a Windows computer.

Did you use your office Mac with a monitor? I essentially want to keep the lid closed and work on the monitor, but it won't let me do it unless I'm constantly plugged in.

I always see these youtube setups that have macbooks closed, connected to the monitor. Wondering if they have a workaround, or are they also always connected to power?

Try this app (dont personally use this): https://apps.apple.com/app/amphetamine/id937984704?mt=12

I use a dual monitor setup with my Mac but I dont work when unplugged. Mainly because intelliJ and our Jetty app server are power hogs and Mac tends to throttle when not plugged in.

I discharge manually overnight or when workload is light by keeping the lid semi closed.

I guess its fine for now, but sometimes I need to use that power port for something else. its a bit a annoying to have to be constantly plugged in to use it this way.

MacOS Big Sur doesn't have an Energy Saver option. I did do what it said in the battery settings, and that didn't help.

You see in the steps given, it says 'plug in your mac to the power source' :wallbash:

Although Big Sur manages battery rather well, I'd recommend doing a regular discharge and charge of your Mac battery. The battery in my Office mac started bloating up because it was always connected to the power source (post COVID wfh).

Keychron India has listed K2V2(INR 7-8K) only and that is out of stock. I am looking for something similar with Mac pattern with Command and Option keys, but would be using with office laptop too which is Windows. What are the good alternatives within INR 8-9k range?

For native Mac layout, Keychron is good. They seem to be restocking regularly, so keep checking.

Most of the other boards will do fine, you can get third party keycaps for Cmd and Option and swap out, but other functionality like Mission Control may not be accessible using the Fn row. Basic key rebind in system preferences will do the trick for swapping Cmd and Option.

If you are okay importing, check the Royal Kludge RK84 on banggood.com, Epomaker AK84S or GK96S on epomaker.com. RK only has Windows keycaps, whereas Epomaker has a dedicated May layout.

buy the upgrade from PSN , cheapest way to do so.

Is the upgrade available without the DLC? I maybe wrong here, but from what I've read you need to first upgrade to the PS4 director's cut edition and then shell out the 10$ for the PS5 upgrade.

Will be good if they offer the 10$ upgrade without tying it to the GOTY equivalent upgrade.

How do you arrive at the conclusion that EA is a great place to work at? EA kills off franchise and projects at the snap of their fingers making of years of hard work meaningless and the IP in EA’s control. Furthermore that there are several customer review sources that EA is one of the worst companies in customer satisfaction.

As for social media, it is often used as evidence whether it is ten years old or yesterday. Hence it is a major cause of concern for employers.

To counter your argument, when a studio is killed, as long as the employees don't get laid off, things are fine. It would be a bummer to see someone's work go to waste, but that doesn't mean the workplace is inherently toxic or that the employee was not valued.

To be honest, EA's reliance on games as a service could be a reason why they are doing better. It's just a conjecture from my end, but services mean a steadier stream of income, better pipeline revenue and more incentives to keep your employees around. The success of a studio is no longer tied to the success of a particular game.

I use the numpad a lot; dunno how people manage without it

You'll be surprised at how easily you can get used to smaller layouts. I was using a 60% layout with no fn row, arrow keys or numpad for a good 6 months before I changed the board.

Except for the arrow keys, didnt really miss the others. Got used to them.

What would be a good beginner’s keyboard?
Nothing too fancy.. just want good tactile feedback. (In the range of 5k)

5k me ghanta kuch nahi milega. I searched. I settled for a cheap brand and for someone who is using mechanical keyboard for the first time, it is overwhelming! Should have bought earlier.

Lol. Did you import or buy a Cosmic Byte?

DM or whatsapp. There are too many considerations like preference for form factor, switches etc. Will explain in detail.

I didn't mail them and it still showed up without any customs. Risky to ask for undervaluation because if it comes under scrutiny then buyers has to pay the penalty.

Yeah, ageeed. But these are niche items and extremely unlikely that an inspector would suspect these to cost upward of 100$. Especially considering Epomaker boards barely have any significant branding.
