  1. With the COVID-19 lockdown going on, we've been asked to WFH for the next 15-30 days atleast :/ Got the IKEA Markus and upgraded the table top to a larger one courtesy of 250$ work from setup offered by company.

Moved the PC cabinet next to the TV so that I could make space for the laptop. The office desktop server will soon come home since we've been asked to take it with us till this pandemic gets better.

Yes even I found most of Shallan's sections annoying. I prefer to skip Shallan's sections when I re-read the books up until she arrives at the Shattered Plains.

Well if you found Eshonai exciting get ready. Book 4 is already listed on amazon, pre-orders should start soon. I mean its called Rhythm of War, and so its likely the MC is Venli this time (Eshonai's sister). Dont wanna give away anything, you'll see in Oathbringer. Have you read Warbreaker? If not, don't read OB without reading Warbreaker first. Ideally you should read Warbreaker before WoR itself but give it a read now.

Yes, that duel is one of my favourite parts too, Kal has pretty bad-a*s moments all through Book 1 and Book 2, I have a hard time deciding which one I like better.

In terms of the flashbacks, Oathbringer is an easy fav for me. Dalinar is such a well written character, I was honestly shocked at the depth of the plot.

And yes, I have read Mistborn. Era 1, I mean. The original trilogy. Loved it as well.

Awesome man! Let me see if I can buy Warbreaker. I've read all the Mistborn books as well (including Wax & Wayne series that have been released till now), but find Roshar to be a tad more interesting. Sanderson is keeping the fantasy genre alive especially considering Martin and Patrick Rothfuss don't seem to be anywhere close to finishing their books. Any other recommendations? I like Joe Abercrombie's works as well.

Which one did you like more? Oathbringer is amazing, get ready for Dalinar's backstory.

I liked both of them, actually. I initially found Shallan's sections in Words of Radiance to be a tad annoying especially with Jasnah not being around. But eventually warmed up to it. I think the second book did a better job of setting up the world better considering we got to hear Eshonai's side of the story as well (at least a bit). If I think about it, I actually liked the second book better.

The duel in which Kal jumps in was one of the most exciting bits in the entire book for me.

Have you read the Mistborn series too?

  4. So, I've been wanting to get a larger table for my PC but wifey has been against it since she doesn't like the space getting cluttered. Decided to make some compromises and improvise since I got some extra money from the hackathon we won at work.

    1. Moved the PC case next to the TV and consoles and made extra space at the desk.

    2. Bought a mounting arm for the monitor amd installed it.

    3. I already had the chair(IKEA Flintan) but it wasn't very comfortable for me since it didn't have armrests. Wanted to buy the IKEA Markus but when I tried sitting on the same chair at showroom with the armrest, felt good. So just decided to grab the armrest(IKEA Nominell) and a footrest to go along.

    4. Black Mesa came out of early access! Time to run through the entire Half Life story (and plan for a VR, if I can convince wifey and save up ?).

    4. Finished the first two books in the Stormlight Archives. Loved them. Got the third one now. Sanderson is amazing.

It doesn't but I have been told you should go for one because it removes the 0.01% chance of any kind of issue. It has to be installed in an office which is in Industrial Area so can't take a risk.

    Makes sense.

Bought an AC which is 5 star invertor one. Which stabiliser would be the best one for it ? Also, would the Daikin installation guys be ok with installing it or I would have to call some separate technician for it ?

Check if your AC actually needs a stabilizer. I've been using my Samsung one without a stabilizer for years cos it comes inbuilt with one.

This bitch Sigrun is making me appreciate the nuances of the combat system.
Dammit man I’m a god. And she’s whooping my a*s.

I’m ready to move on from this game now. Besting her will be the perfect send off.

Also, I think she, and maybe all Valkyries scale up to the level Kratos is. I’m almost level 11 and the moves, combos, and chain attacks she’s making while fighting me aren’t there in videos even at the “give me GOW” difficulty.

Four hours last evening and I managed to see her purple eyes only twice. I’ll probably have some PTSD by the time I see this through.

    Pray for me lads :p

I know the feel man. I was in a similar situation and was fighting her in Balance mode. I spent a better part of a day and the previous night finishing her off. I had to try a few combination of runes to see what would work the best. Once she got a few hits in, I was almost as good as dead. She literally wipes a large chuck of your HP and is damn aggressive to boot.

yeah did some research Looks like  freesync is supported

haven't been following pc gaming for more then a year now..

Lot of cheap 1440p 144hz ips/VA  monitors are available now it use to be 70k for those Asus/Acer models with Gsync.

Any suggestion on 1440p with IPS or VA panel would be really helpful for me. iam going to connect to 4k tv for temp.

Acer VG271U is pretty much the only IPS panel that goes around 25-27k mark. I think Samsung has a 27 unch curved VA panel and LG has a 32 inch VA panel.

I need to assemble a pc for a friend mainly for 1080p video editing works (little to no gaming). Max budget is 90k. Need thoughts and opinions from people in the same profession.

    1. The GPU. I'm thinking of getting the RX 570 4GB for 11k or so. The other option is the GTX 1650. I have no idea about their performance on video editing softwares like Adobe's. Read that Cuda should be preferred. How legit is this claim? And what % difference does it have from AMD's?

    2. Friend wants the Samsung Nvme 970 Evo Plus SSD. The motherboard which I chose is the Gigabyte B450M DS3H. Would like someone to confirm that the motherboard supports this Nvme without any issue. For your convenience here is the link of the motherboard: https://www.gigabyte.com/in/Motherboard/B450M-DS3H-rev-10/sp#sp

The CPU will be R5 3600.

    3. The RAM. Would 16GB suffice or will he need 32GB? Planning of getting a standard Corsair LPX 3000MHz/3200MHz. Would timing affect the performance? Absolutely no cpu OC'ing.

    4. Hard disk for media storage. Planning to get two of WD 1TB EZEX 7200RPM than other cheaper but slower 2TB variants.

    5. Keyboard: what mechanical switches do you guys feel that he will like it? He has never used a mechanical keyboard before. I wanted to order the TVS but apparently TVS has stopped producing them with Cherry MX keys. Now only Long Hua. I'm thinking CM Pro L white led (comes in blue, red and brown iirc). Can't find the brown anywhere anymore.

    6. PSU: the tried and tested Seasonic S12II 529/620. M models are out of stock. I don't know about the OEM's of other PSU's. Another option: Corsair RM650 for 9k. Apparently this is a cwt model with Chinese stuff somewhere.

     7. Mouse: Steelseries Rival.

    8. CPU cooler: has anyone used any new air cooler? Absolutely no water cooler. Only air.

Please understand that I don't want to buy something which he doesn't/won't need. I'd rather have him invest in more important components.

Looking forward to your answers. Thanks.

    Sharing what I know.

    1. Have no clue about RX GPU series or about to video editing. So gonna pass on that one.

    2. Evo 970 is a great SSD. But it's gonna cost a pretty penny or you may have to compromise on the capacity. Check with your friend on whether he really needs it. I'd suggest getting a SATA one and use the rest of the money to probably upgrade to a better video card.

    3. 16GB should be good for 1080p video editing. Others can comment if I am wrong.

    4. There's a Seagate variant that runs at 7200 RPM and has 2TB capacity.

    5. Mechanical if he plans on gaming/extensive typing. Else not worth it.

    6. Corsair is good. You can go for their 500/650 semi modular ones/ I personally have an Antec EAG 650W Gold (semi modular) that cost me a bit less than 6k. It's basically a rebranded Seasonic model.

    7. Why Steelseries if he isn't gonna be gaming? Might as well use the money on other items.

    8. Cooler: Don't need for Ryzen 3600. The Stealth that comes with it is good. If he runs into thermal issues, can get the Hyper 212 black from CoolerMaster.

Motherboard: I've a X570 from Gigabyte. Their B450M board is decent from what I've heard. You can check with /u/eddie_edits (GB rep on Reddit) for more info regarding compat. Most folks going for a B450 board seem to prefer the AsRock Steel Legend though or the MSI Mortar. Though I've heard that Gigabyte one is also decent.

Go for a good mesh case with good ventilation.

10 more fps in AC Odyssey because 12 threads is also a very minor thing, comparing to neck-and-neck performance in every other game but still people are shilling ryzen like crazy.

Don't know what this new bullshit trend is with cost cutting by these companies some don't have an igpu on the processor, some don't give a cooler with the processor ::roflroll:

    https://www.techspot.com/review/1885-ryzen-5-3600-vs-core-i5-9400f/

literally the difference is whether you want igp or 12 threads and more performance on AC Odyssey and the other 2 games like that.

People on the internets also say that the Ryzens are "future-proof" because more cores duh but then they said that for the FX 8350 from 2012 also :giggle:

    2 hours ago, PhantomShade said:

Lol current Ryzens need X570 chipset boards that cost 15k minimum from a reputed brand, same as Z390 boards.

Unless ofc you mean jumping through hoops to get a very specific b450 motherboard, getting ryzen gen 2 processor, updating the BIOS, putting the ryzen 3600 in, and then pulling your hair out because of bugs in the BIOS don't let it boot.

or getting an obscure MSI B450 motherboard with out of the box ryzen gen 3 support.

cheaper AMD is a meme, Both Intel AMD performance are neck and neck, so they price also accordingly, long ago in 2012-2013 AMD used to be cheap but their performance was absolute garbage compared to Intel.

Well, for one, Ryzen offers more cores, 30-50% more performance in productivity tasks. Gaming takes a hit by around 10% if I am not wrong. And that too only when you use a 2080Ti or so and game at low res & high fps. The facts are out there in the wild. Not sure why you are trying to convince otherwise :slap:

Looks more like an upgraded IGPU instead of a discrete GPU..
From the footage doesn't seem like it was even capable of running Destiny 2 at 60 fps..

You are partly right I guess. This is supposed to be for laptops and is being sent to devs in a pci-e card form factor

  12. 2 hours ago, kunjanp said:

This doesn't make sense, this way he can wait another 4-5 months on top of it and get Ryzen Gen 4. There is a reason why reviewers don't utilise future claims.

Again, Ryzen not having integrated gpu in case your gpu dies is a very small subset of scenarios. Acc. to this logic no one should buy Ryzen.

Ryzen over Intel if anyone wanna build a multi purpose rig today.

Second you on this. All this jazz about Intel being better at gaming becomes relevant only if you remove CPU bottlenecks completely using a top of the line GPU and if you game at high frame rates. Right now, Ryzen offers tremendous value for money and the marginal performance difference really isn't worth the added cost (Intel MBs are notoriously expensive and require you to use the latest chipset like Z390 with the 9 series. I guess the 10 series will follow suit).

Gaming for Intel holds true if you have the budget for a high framerate rig. Mostly for at competitive gamers or for folks who want the absolute best and for whom cost is no bar

I maybe able to get the switch from a relative coming from Australia, but i want to know is that which digital store offers the best discount for switch games either on holiday sales or random sales, mario kart 8 deluxe is still going for 4k+ here on our many online retailers, so that is why i want to get a switch of a region who's digital store is cost efficient, is it the US switch only ? I inquired but my relative said US switch is not available in Australia at shops like EBGames, target etc.

Here the new switch costs 29k which i feel is too much for it, at max I'll pay around the Rs.22k US price.

Also should i wait for the much rumored Switch pro, frankly i don't like the dull 720p screen i checked it out at a friend who had pokemon let's go. Nintendo always does this crap releasing a superior version of the console a few good years later, and late buyers like me have a tough call. I  also hate those ugly bezels.

But what i do love are the games mario kart, super smash, zelda, xenoblade etc damn nintendo does make life hard :(

If you don't want to shell out so much for the Switch now, get the Lite for around 14k in the grey-market. Sell this off for half the price and get the pro version if/once it releases. The lite screen is smaller and the 720p res will look sharper on the smaller screen. Win-win if you ask me.

It's on CeX, I just checked but it doesn't ship where I live (Sikkim). Can we even do that?

I checked PlayAsia before posting here, they're all out of stock. ebay has it but at a really inflated price. On Amazon US, HGSS costs about 30K INR lol

Which Cex has the item you are looking for? Ask someone in the forum for help. They might be willing to buy and ship on your behalf

Any place where I can buy DS games online? Specifically looking for Pokemon games.

Check CeX. If you have a store in your local city,  you can pick it up from them. Else see if someone in the forum can buy on your behalf and ship it.

Otherwise, PlayAsia or ebay (US) or Amazon US will be your best bet.

Neil Gaiman is just amazing. Once you are done, try reading the Gospel of Loki as well :)

Did you see the games ubisoft gave for free last year 7 good games for free and this year they gave out AC Unity for free on PC. So it kinda set a bar for free stuff.

Sent from my SM-N975F using Tapatalk

Not the right comparison. Ubisoft owns all these games and has already made money on most of them. They can do whatever they want with the stuff they own. Epic neither owns these games nor publishes them (most cases). It's just a medium for distribution like Steam. So essentially they are paying money to the developers to give away the games for free.

Also, just cos someone you know is giving away free sweets doesn't mean you can expect every other guy giving free food to giveaway only sweets. Peace.

  18. 29 minutes ago, NitroNeo said:

The epic free games are so meh.. they may be good games but they can't even throw in a good action rpg or a TPS or a racer, all seem like indie games or low budget games, nothing that they oversold on Game Awards so that people make an account there.

Strangely i do find PC gaming scene totally weird here, i was looking up on DBZ Kakarot on steam and the page says this is not available in your region i was like WTFH. Do they consider us like some 3rd world country like that didn't grew up watching dbz.

I hate nintendo for not even considering the indian market worth it to sell their freakin consoles but now even steam does this crap.

Well, they are free games and good ones to boot. I personally think focussing on indie games is good as it helps the developers (since Epic bears the cost). They may not be to your taste, but you can always buy you want. Not sure why you have to complain about things that are free.
