  1. My graphics card is acting up. Video appears corrupted right from the boot screen (the motherboard display). After a couple of reboots or running in for some time, it returns back to normal. I tried removing the card, cleaning it and rewiring it, but no change. I currently don't have a VGA cable to check out my board display, but is this a cue to change my card? :|

Probably. Which card do you have?

Try changing your HDMI/DVI cable first and also try changing the port you use on the card.

  2. Connect your restart button to the power connectors of your mobo and try. Worth a shot and also you can manually short the power connectors but I wouldn't advice that.

It can also be a problem with your PSU and not external power source(the fluctuations you mentioned).

  3. ^^^^ I had the exact same issue with my old PC but I am not sure whether that is the problem with yours. My issue was that there was some kind of loose contact with the power button, meaning it was getting triggered even without pressing the button. I just used the restart button as the power button there after. Might not be the same in your case but just saying.

  6. i played through the lovely game today. suffice it to say that i was completely blown away by the experience. there's something magical about the way all the elements of the game come together that is really difficult to describe in words. even though it has no dialogues or complex gameplay, the combination of the design, the visuals and the music really transcends this game into something else. this is one of the games that will be talked about in the 'games are art' debate for years to come.

btw, for anyone who liked this game, i would recommend checking out botanicula (http://store.steampo...com/app/207690/). while it obviously does not share the same theme, it has the same basic elements that make journey so special. a culmination of beautiful music and art and design that elevate it from being just another puzzle game into a magical experience that any gamer should definitely have.

Agree with you completely. First time when I played this game I was so attracted to the idea behind it, it took me around 4-5 playthroughs to put the controller down.

I have botanicula on steam for some time now but haven't tried it yet. Will do that now.

  7. Here you go.

So here's what I would like to do, backup my games to an external hard drive, delete selected games from the main machine and restore from the backup to play whenever I want.

I have to do this coz my computer has limited space and I can't increase it. I knew this trade-off before buying so it doesn't bother me too much. I have a few questions.

    1. Is this legally ok? -> Yes, use steam's backup feature.

    2. Will the backup also backup my save files so I can continue where I left off, or will it always be a fresh start from restore? -> No it won't backup your saved games unless you do what is said in this thread.

    3. Can this backup be restored on another machine if need be (using my account, of course)? -> Yes, you can restore it to any number of machines as long as you are logged into your account.

    4. How many times can I backup and restore? Coz I might want to replay a game at a later date. -> You can backup and restore any number of times you want.

    5. If the backup goes bad can I redownload from Steam as many times as I want? -> Yes, you can.

  9. it's a good thing sure, but you have to imagine that download queuing/scheduling would come higher in the priority list of things to do no?

Yup for sure, I was just pointing out that it is better than nothing.

I read about some script that can start/stop steam downloads using the system clock. At that time I didn't explore much because I will never risk my steam account for anything. Will try to find that link again.
