  1. Visual studio is an amazing IDE no doubt, but it also spoils a programmer IMO. If you are serious about learning programming, I suggest you steer clear of all such v make your life easy IDEs, and code in editors like vi. It helps a lot in understanding the basics of language !

    Thanks ;) Ne0 Learning Unity right now :)

  2. Which uni's are you looking at?

    Well i was thinking about universities that can give me specialized certificate for game development and which suits my profile. I've found 2-3 universities like Rochester Inst of Tech (costly though ) , North Carolina Charlotte and some other who provides that certificate. Other than that i have few more lists which doesnt provide any certificate but has Gaming Subjects in the elective subjects.Now i dont know which college it was right now as i've shortlisted 8 colleges and two more from california after my 7th semester result.

    Wayne State university, Texas Arlington,Depaul,IIT Chicago,etc

    But being on the internet i've also found getting a degree or a certificate it wont help me get a job. What will get me a job is my creativity with the languages i do. I've read that and listened to that from many people. So even if dont get to study gaming related subjects i'll still learn it either from an independent course or on my own :P

    Hence getting a degree in masters of fine arts in gaming reduces a set of jobs :\

  3.

    You can't earn a small certificate and then consider yourself a long-term employable candidate in the gaming industry. A Masters in C.S will serve as a safety net. If you want to get an idea of what goes on in the gaming industry then try landing a temporary job/internship as a QA game tester. Test the waters before you dive in.

    I still strongly suggest that you get yourself a management degree, preferably MBA, from a state where most of the reputed studios are located.

    And don't worry about growing old. By then you'll have at least one kid from your first marriage which lasted 5+ years. Missed opportunities will be the least of your regrets.

    No no I am just giving it a try i.e. a step towards this field. Actually i know i dont even need a degree myself to prove. If i practice on my own the depths of codings, it will all be fine. But i just want to learn under someone doesnt matter i fail, just want to learn. And i'm completely sure about masters in CS . Thanks for your replies. They are Helpful :) :')

    Sounds like you're more interested in working for the Big Names in the Gaming industry rather than actually specializing in an engineering field. Skip core development. Why don't you consider a Masters in IT/Engineering Marketing/Management from any of the reputed uni's in California or Washington? In that case take for example nVidia, whose marketing team consists of professionals with Masters/MBA degree's from San Jose State University related to the aforementioned courses.

    No, I'm not interested in earning monies from game development i want to do something fun, I dont mind working with small companies or independent companies. I just want to do something that i feel like doing. In the middle of my engineering i was gonna leave it and go for the course but then i couldnt do it. It's even okay to not to go for the whole game development. It's just that i feel that in my later years i dont want to have that sorry feel for not going for game development course. Hence i'm aiming at learning it in a small degree (as in Level Game development certificate Which some college provides along with masters in computer science) I dont have any problem going for just computer science too. But as i said earlier even if i fail atleast i wont say that i didnt try.

    Hence i was confused what to do? Am i doing the right thing with getting my masters in computer science degree with a certificate from the institute for game development.?

    Not concerned about cerificate, i just want to learn. Getting a certificate is a Plus point to my masters in Computer science.

    Game Development isn't a joke. I know a lot of MSc Grads in Game Development from DigiPen, CMU, RIT, UoU, SMU-G, UCF and UCI who regret their decisions because their basics are lacking. In fact their seniors(Indians) kept urging them to take up classes focusing on the practical aspects of software engineering/development as a safety net to help them land a job outside the Game Industry.

    How comfortable(not experience) are you with programming? If you have the drive but lack experience in programming principles, then opt for the accelerated(21 months) BSc in Game Development from Full Sail for some 80K USD. You'll need to bring your A-game to succeed at Full Sail. Its expensive because your professors/lecturers are industry veterans who help you build a network.

    i'm okay with programming not very good. The thing is whenever they taught some programming stuff, it was kind of boring to me because i was not sure about it. But it's like right now i have this urge to go for this field. If to be in the industry i need to learn something alien language then bring it on, i'm excited about it. I dont know where this urge/ feel will take me.

    And as you said about those grads who were regreting, that's why i was asking about my chances in non game based fields, i dont mind taking extra subjects related to computer science to get me job.So hence i need to make up a second option. I searched colleges and few of them said they provide me a masters degree in computer science and a certificate for the game development course. Hence Every decision is crucial, it's tough to decide. :\

  6. Need Help regarding my masters Degree (M.S.)

    Currently in my 7th sem Computer Engineering , Have given GRE score 305, toefl is on 18th jan. So here i am now confused what to do. As in general people opt for Masters in computer science. but i'm not even interested in that. It's like it doesn't excite me to do the course. However i'm very much interested in learning Game development stuff. It's like i don't know a thing but i'm really interested and keen to learn anything. But the Problem is what course should i take? and should i go for Game development course or not? or just take MS in computer science and live my life ;____;

    So what degree to opt for?

    (i)A Complete Game based study?
    (ii)Masters in science with specialization in Game Development?

    Now i'm also confused about the second field. I'll have a computer science degree but will that get me a job outside Game industry (just looking at a negative aspect if game industry fails , i hope not though).I dont want to like spend 30 Lakhis on masters and end up sitting doing nothing ;___; . So as it includes so much money, its crucial to decide.

    So i need help because i'm confused ;___;

    P.s. I know that having a game devlopment course wont get me a job. It's the projects and stuff that i work on :D

    Help Please :)
