  1. ^Actually I'm planning to keep the BSNL connection (with a lower rental plan) for online gaming (due to low ping). The EVDO connection would be for downloading and browsing only.

I like that BSNL have this concept where you pay them the entire amount for the dongle + deposit which you would normally do if you take a new connection, and you can take a dongle with you for day or two to test if it works to your satisfaction. You can return it anytime and get your entire money back. That is how my friend opted for it.

I'll also be doing the same (because BSNL offers different make of USB dongles) and I want to be sure that what I buy gives me good speed at my home.

  2. I use BSNL 750plan and while the speed is not pure 512kbps, more like 475kbps I personally find it reliable (rare and minimal downtime). Ping is decent (<100ms on SpeedTest), and I usually get 3 bars on BF3 servers.

But for downloading it feels really slow. I'll probably take BSNL EVDO, I tested out my friend's connection at my home and was getting consistent 1Mbps+ speeds. It is available for Rs. 750 unlimited so should be cool.

  3. Planning to order one of these : aluminium finish would look classy. I'm not sure whether to opt for gray or black.

    And already ordered this :

ebay.com is the place to get unbranded stuff (especially gadget accessories) for the best price. Shipped.

  4. ^As of now, I am going to test upcoming games (CS:GO and MoH) with my existing 2 core AMD. Accordingly I'll decide whether to upgrade or not. If I do upgrade, there are two options for me : either get a 4core AM3 processor for my existing mobo+RAM, else opt for an entirely new combo, in which case it will be the 8 core FX 8120.

  5. Obviously you should get the FX8120 if budget allows.

As for mobo, the specifications mention RAM support for 1600 and 1800 as O.C. Not sure whether the 1600MHz RAM will be optimally utilised.

  6. ^^ 2k max as all of them are outdated.

What is the best processor , motherboard and RAM combo for 14k ? (Extendable by 1k.AMD only , no Intel)

    FX4100 - 6.5k / FX6100 - 7.5k

    Any compatible Gigabyte/Asus mobo - 3.5k onwards

    8GB GSKill / Corsair 1600MHz RAM - 3.5k

You should have a look at motherboards and opt for a good one upto 6k. Pair it with 4GB RAM for the time being, add 4GB later when budget allows.

  7. The short version : Graphics card is sometimes not detected at boot, but is detected after removing and re-inserting in the PCI-E slot.

    The detailed version :

Facing a weird issue. A couple of days back there was a power cut and after a few minutes the UPS ran out of battery so my desktop got powered off (non-graceful shutdown :| ). On rebooting, the graphics card fan began spinning at top speed, and graphics card (6850) was not recognised. Onboard graphics worked fine. I pulled out the graphics card and placed it back in, and it got detected perfectly.

Today, I simply booted up the PC (I had shut it down gracefully earlier in the day), and the exact same issue happened. It got resolved by pulling out the graphics card from the PCI-E slot and placing it back in.

My feeling is that the motherboard is at fault. Now whether that is a hardware related issue or something to do with the BIOS, I have to ascertain.

I'm updating the BIOS to the latest revision, in the meantime if someone has any light they can shed on the matter, that would be most helpful.

  8. ^Perfect answer.

Taking backup of game install files is pretty straightforward.

For save files, I recommend that you do the effort of copying the savegames files and folders from the typical locations mentioned (like steamapps folder, sub-folder specific to game, OR My Documents ).

  9. Yea..2.5 to 3 jus for graphics card..

I guess i'm ok with buying used card without warranty..It wont die so soon right ?

The life of any electronics item cannot be guaranteed. That is why warranty helps as it is something to fall back on. That said, for 2-3k you can get excellent cards from the 4xxxx series of ATI. Keep looking at Erodov and TechEnclave forums.

E.g. http://www.erodov.com/forums/selling-msi-4650-a/54248.html , not a very great card but for Rs. 1500 it is VFM.

And yeah, RAM = 4GB is enough.
