    So I'm here finally and looking to go out and see the campus this afternoon.

     

    BTW i just realized two of the 4 friends i was telling you about also flew on the same day as you!

    Air France by any chance? All the 4 of them are staying on campus btw..2 of them in ECE so you might get to know them better then :D

    please refrain from spreading FUD.

    The way afty asked the question i presumed he didn't know much about android and installing ROMs

     

     

    When he said he wanted to know how to update his phone...i told him the official way to do it! Then i also checked for the feedback on the official upgrades to 2.3.3 on the Galaxy S and found the problem which i listed down here.

     

     

    Today everyone without the latest phones have to upgrade their phone using the unofficial/leaked versions.

     

    If Aftrunner has the galaxy S then he should be able to get an update for 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 on KIES itself ! [ Official Update available on official software how tough is that ]

    Also if he didn't have any USB drivers installed for his phone they get installed as well!

     

     

    You mean to say the whole world and ODIN are wrong and you are right???? :doh:

    The only downside to updating outside of kies is that one loses warranty ( that also is easily fixable ). Read up and stay updated before trying to mislead someone next time.

     

    I never said don't use custom ROMs or anything like that!

    I repeat! I listed down the problems a few people faced with their phone after the official update.

    I didnt want him to flash any custom ROMs or Kernels onto his phone if he doesn't know what he is doing.

     

    And yeah when you get some spare time from 'reading' ANDROID go to the crackedbybinpda forum, search for my profile I bet I have done a lot more reading on symbian and android development than you think i have.

    So how do I update my phone to the latest version of Android? I am on 2.2.1 and from what I understand the newest one is 2.3.4. But whenever I check for updates from my phone it inevitably shows me connection failed. Can it only be done manually? If so how?

     

    On Samsung galaxy SL i9003.

     

    Do you have Kies on you PC/Laptop? Download it, Connect your phone to it...if as you say 2.3.4 is the latest android ver for your phone then Kies will show you an update for the same on the home screen...otherwise 2.3.4 isn't for your phone (also the 'country' parameter comes into picture i guess)

     

    EDIT:

    Ok i just checked a few things DONOT update your phone to 2.3.4 if kies doesn't show it...it give a hell lotta problems with:

    Camera

    Wifi Connectivity

    Games/Apps downloaded from the Market

    Good news: Leaving India for Atlanta in a few hours time. Excited cos I've always loved traveling abroad and meeting new people.

     

     

    Bad News: First time I'll be away from home for such a long time. Mixed feelings of sadness and excitement. Feel kinda bad seeing my parents very sad yet putting on a happy face for my sake.

    Honda city @ 8.6 lacs otr and you can squeez about 85k in benefits making it just about 80k above your price.

     

    also include Ford Fiesta classic which starts at 5.5 ex showroom or something.. 1.6 ltr engine is a jem to drive.

     

    this is how my dad will look at it: 80k ke benfits ko chod (yes double meaning indeed)... I AM STILL paying 1.6K more na !!!

     

    Ford Fiesta Classic out dated hogai hai re with the new fiesta in market...

     

     

    @Avkash: Ya the ABS is an important thing but i still don't like the exterior looks that much! Interiors are orgasmic!

     

     

    BTW Fort point guys told me they will get me a NEW Swift Dzire in December for sure..

    What say should i wait?

     

    I thought the New Swift Dzire was scheduled for an early 2012 release and not in Dec 2011.

    avkash...just got off the phone with a sales rep from tata and the aura version going for 6.77 otr is the one equivlent to the swift dzire for 6.30 otr...The only difference being the Audio controls in the manza are on the steering wheel and not on the dashboard!

    So my dad wants to buy a new car in the coming 2 months and he wants a petrol sedan (selling my scorpio diesel off in return)

     

    The max budget is 7Lakhs on road!

     

    So the choices boil down to :

     

    Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire

    Toyota Etios

    Mahindra Verito

    Hyundai Accent

     

    Can you'll shed some light as to which one will be the best choice and why?

    My dad is really keen on buying the swift dzire vxi BS 4 but since the new swift (and eventually the dzire version) is going to be launched, I think this wouldn't be such a great buy.

    Etios is a wonderful car..everyone in the family loved it..but then again dad is scared about excess maintenance that it might incur

    Mahindra verito : meh

    hyundai accent: Too good a car but a really really old model!

     

    So please do help me help my dad decide :D

    ya man but the problem with those is that the wrist straps are made of silicon!

    and am not a big fan of silicon on my wrists...except ofcourse if it is inside a chick ;)

    Whats the difference between Seagate FreeAgent and Portable apart from being portable 1TB portable cost around 4550 and 2TB freeagent cost 4990

     

    1> FreeAgent requires the power supply portables don't.

     

    2> 3.5" HDD size in FreeAgent 2.5" in portables.

     

    3>From a functioning point of view both perform equally good...

     

    4>I noticed while transferring the data today that the freeAgent has higher speeds of transfer than a (500Gb) portable (better cache and stuff maybe)

     

    5>I have a 500gb and 80gb portable for everyday use..so yeah portables are of use only if you wanna carry them around otherwise for use at home free agent works very well.

     

    6>So if you want value for money and more than 1tb of space a Free Agent should be your choice! (they've come out with Free Agent GoFlex now ..dunno the difference except for reduced warranty)

    bang on the money, even i had a bad experience with acer that is why asked about it here,

    my current acer lappy got screwed within 2 days i got it, they repaired it but it god screwed again after a week, they finnaly gave me a new lappy but this lappy screen went caput just when the warrenty got over :doh:, and they harrased me a lot during the replacing too.

    This acer one had great specs and chep too, plus the equall speced dell one is almost 4-5k more costly so i though :fear:

    Is Asus good?, not heard about them much, and btw how is gateway?

     

     

    The dell inspiron 14r and 15r are almost 5k more costly then their acer counterparts so i am getting a little greedy :fear:, but then i remember my horrible experience with the acer one i have.

     

    Dell is brilliant! Make a good customized lappy on their website goto any of their shops and show them a printout of your config and they'll give you one as you wanted sometimes (as in my case) an even better option for lesser!!! The extended warranty is a MUST if you buy dell. My laptop worked flawlessly till in the warranty, but suddenly after a year and a half the the dvd drive stopped reading discs, the screen started flickering,and sh*t like that! Luckily i had the extended warranty (costs ~ 5K) so got the parts replaced n a weeks time. The service centers for dell have now opened up in Mumbai finally (earlier the systems had to be sent to Bangalore for any kind of repair) alongwith a plethora of showrooms around the city..so all in all i would say dell is a superb choice if you are ready to spend a little extra for 3 years of piece of mind :)

    My sharpshooter by amazon arrived today...plus because of the delay i also got a 20$ Coupon!!!! What a steal! No customs!!!!!!! I'll update a pic in sometime when i get off it...the gameplay with kz3 is kickass!!! got 3 sets of stickers also that can be put on the sharpshooter...Stahl industries, Killzone 3 ISA, Socom Special Forces!

    Hey ....wanted to know where i could get a 5 -8 meters vga cable in mumbai ....Any idea guys?

     

    Lamington road...otherwise if you stay near andheri then there is a shop called detect computers near fame adlabs (near the dell service center)the guy sells the cheapest cables in the suburbs...got my hdmi to dvi cable from there only.
