  1. AC Unity is true next-gen. In fact, it is SO next-gen that it isn't even finished yet! I like to be on the cutting edge and I appreciate that Ubisoft is making games that it is still making, even weeks after you've beaten them.

     

    I also love the forced integration with an app as well as a website. How that works is that you sign in with your uplay account to experience so many error messages that last gen could never display on screen at one time.

     

    The game itself (no spoilers) centers around Arno, an Assasin in search of locked chests that require a cell phone game with micro transactions to open. You level him up by "hacking" into your bank account to drain real money at 60 FPS. The rest of the game runs at a solid 12 FPS which is TWICE as cinematic as a movie... No small feat! Once you've completed "playing" a website on your computer, Arno is finally ready to fall through the ground and enter a white abyss... The core challenge of the game, these moments where you simply fall into the sky that accurately existed under 1700's Paris, are some of the most nail-biting moments in any game ever made... Will the game crash? Will you have to hard reset your console? Results are random, so it will always be a surprise!

     

    Many people just won't "get" this evolution of Assassin's Creed and should spend their time opening up a history book instead. It is there they could read up on Paris' floating people and long battle with pop-in. Even today, many Parisians only exist after you've already walked past them. It is these small details that Ubisoft has nailed and they deserve applause with tons of random audio pops just as you'd hear in the game's cinematics.

     

    After playing this gem, I've decided to fly to Montreal tomorrow to begin playing 2018's Assassin's Creed 9. Unity's only shortcoming was that it was a little TOO finished, so I am hoping the Ubisoft guys will let me plug my controller into a broken vending machine in their studio that simply eats dollars that I put into it without delivering.

  2. AMD Fiji XT R9 390X Specs Leak – 4GB of 3D Stacked HBM and 4096 Stream Processors

    Low and behold another major GPU leak has just surfaced on the SiSoft Sandra benchmarking database. Yesterday we caught a glimpse of the possible specifications for Nvidia’s GM200 GPU. Today we take another possible glimpse at what AMD has been cooking. There is no way to confirm this leak or the prior GM200 one. so I’m going to go ahead and label this as a rumor for the time being.

    Let’s get straight to it. According to the database listing the GPU will feature 64 GCN CUs/Compute Units. For a total of a whopping 4096 GCN cores. The GPU will also feature 4GB of 3D stacked High Bandwidth Memory / HBM modules clocked at 1.25Ghz.

    AMD Radeon R9 390X / Fiji XT Is an Impressive Beast

    According to the official specifications of HBM. A one Gigabyte HBM stack clocked at 1.2Ghz provides 128GB/s of bandwidth. Due to the intriguing facets of how this memory architecture behaves, the increments of bandwidth are additive with each subsequent HBM module. With four HBM stacks for a total of 4GB you’re looking at 512GB/s of total bandwidth.


    This leak indicates that the HBM modules on the R9 390X have been clocked slightly above the default 1.2Ghz frequency to 1.25Ghz. Which should drive overall bandwidth up to ~640 GB/s. That’s more than double the memory bandwidth available to the GTX 980 which is 224GB/s. And easily surpasses the 320GB/s bandwidth of the R9 290 series and the 336GB/s data rate of the GTX 780 Ti. The R9 390X has by far the greatest amount of memory bandwidth we’ve seen on any graphics card to date.

  3. I know this is a review thread, but as a 'junior' I can not start a new thread so I'll post here and

    -i'll be quick, I promise. Maybe someone could make a new thread?

     

    PCgameshardware.de posted first PC benchmarks for the game. (with unoptimized drivers!)

     

    Game seems to be very CPU demanding. Players with a modern Intel Quad Core with around 3 GHz should be fine, older or weaker processors with outdatet performance-per-clock ratio, however, may have problems.

     

    An I7 - 920 @ 3,8 ghz seems to have troubles to reach 30 fps on max settings.

    Mantle seems to improve performance

    A bloomfield Intel CPU like the I7 920 gets a boost of ~ 45% with mantle and a R9 290x

    Even a modern I7 4970k gets a 10% boost with mantle.

    was maintaining 30fps most of the time with a few times going above

  5. Alleged Geforce GTX ‘Titan X’ Specs and Benches Leak Out – SiSoft Sandra Does it Again

     

    Something pretty interesting popped up on the inter-webs recently. Many forums, from Overclock.net, to Notebookreview.com have started reporting on an enigmatic SiSoft Sandra benchmark that appeared approximately 24 hours back. On casual inspection the bench appears to be a GM200 test run. Needless to say, this is as unreliable as unreliable gets, so please take a good look at the little tag at the top. Nvidia’s next generation GM200 GPU allegedly rocks 3072 CUDA cores and upto 1.2Ghz boost clock

     

    Before we begin, let me make something clear, I do not know what the GM200 GPU will be called. It could be the GTX 980 Ti, It could be Titan II/X or any other variation thereof. It should be pretty clear that the name I have used above is just a placeholder since I can’t really keep on calling it ‘the-GPU-with-GM200-inside’. Basically, this particular leak stems from SiSoft Sandra’s benchmark database (something on which I will be keeping a close eye from now on) just like the massive AMD Carrizo Leak a few days back. Whoever, conducted the bench made sure to hide most of the ID Codes and identifying information but some specs and the Nvidia logo were left out, perhaps deliberately. It also raises the question whether the results are spoofed. Usually faking synthetic benchmarks is near impossible, but I have no personal experience with SiSoft so I won’t comment further.

    If the benchmark is truly of the next Maxwell Flagship, then we are looking at a CUDA Core count of 3072 in 24 SMMs. Since there are 24 Streaming Maxwell Processors and each SMM has 8 TMUs to it, I can further deduce that this card has 192 TMUs. You can expect 96 ROPs to go along with it. A slightly odd number, but nothing to really set alarm bells ringing. It features 3MB of L2 cache, 384 bit bus width and perhaps most surprisingly, 12GB vRam coupled with a low 6GHZ frequency
  6. Assassin’s Creed: Unity – PC Update 1.2.0 Changelog Revealed, Addresses Multi-GPU Issues

     

    Man, Assasssin’s Creed: Unity is not even out yet and Ubisoft has already released two patches for the PC version of the game. Earlier today we shared the changelog for the day-one patch of the PS4 version for Assassin’s Creed: Unity. While the French company did not reveal which of them were issued on all platforms, we just got our hands on the changelogs for the two PC updates that are currently available.
