IGN Reviews GH III

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/830/830837p2.html

8.0 Presentation

The new additions are great, but the campaign mode is feeling dated.

7.0 Graphics

Robotic animations and the rare bit of slowdown won't win any awards.

9.0 Sound

The few covers could be better, but the overall soundtrack is fantastic.

9.0 Gameplay

Neversoft nailed the guitar mechanics on the first try.

9.0 Lasting Appeal

The online play and community features will keep this game in your console for a long time to come.

8.9 Great OVERALL

GHIII title update adds offline co-op

From Xbox360 Fanboy

http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/10/29/oo...-offline-co-op/

_________________________________________________________________________

When popping in Guitar Hero III for the first time last night, we were greated to a surprising title update. Our first thought was, "oops, looks like Neversoft had to fix something that was broken" and what are the odds that were were right.

1UP confirmed that the title update was available for the game's launch and fixes (or we should say adds) the option for offline co-op quickplay. You see, someone forgot to add the promised offline co-op quickplay option, but we guess that's what title updates are for. No official update has been rolled out for the PS3, PS2 or Wii versions of GHIII just yet and we aren't quite sure what is expected of those without Xbox Live as we're sure they're the target market for such feature. Humph, maybe Neversoft should have got it right the first time, but maybe we're asking just a bit much.

8 is an appropriate score. There's not much new in GH III that we havent already seen in GH II. The main difference is the track selection. Honestly, they could have added these tracks as DLC for GH II. But then they would have lost out on the PS2 market.

Wii owners likely heralded the coming of Guitar Hero III as a momentous event that demanded calendars be marked off and days away from work be cleared with bosses, where spiked leather bracelets were removed from hidden drawers and proudly displayed on wrists. It is likely a time when turning the volume up to 10 isn't enough. But, many might have found that the experience has been tainted by the lack of Dolby Pro Logic II.

News first burst on the scene thanks to users over at the official forums for Guitar Hero, where the title's lack of compatibility with Dolby Pro Logic II was reported by several Wii owners. The official response from tech support has been "We are looking in to right now. The time frame is still unknown at the moment we are still looking in to the problem."

Guitar Hero 3 launches to overloaded servers

From Ars Technica

http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars...rloaded-servers

_________________________________________________________________

Guitar Hero 3 was released on Sunday, and Rock Band be damned, it seems like the franchise is bigger than ever. A little too big, in fact. The online play of Guitar Hero 3 on the Xbox 360 is somewhat unstable; the system has been having a hard time keeping up with the load.

Quick Matches seem to not work at all, with the game either failing to connect to any other players, or the title hanging completely. If you search for games to play, your luck is usually a little better, but that feature is still somewhat on the flaky side. Playing Face-Offs and Battle Mode online has been fun the few times I have been able to connect to a game, but it's been a headache to get anything to work with any regularity.

The community site is also getting pounded as gamers try to link up their accounts to compare scores across multiple platforms; the site has been up and down since release, and the account-linking feature seems to be barely working. The Guitar Hero forum admins seem aware of the issue, at least.

The launch of Guitar Hero III has produced heavy amounts of traffic to the website, and this traffic has caused a number of users to have problems with linking their accounts and uploading scores.

We are well aware of these issues, and we our working as fast as we can to fix both problems.

You can still play through GH III, and rack up as many high scores as possible, and those scores will be displayed when we smooth things out.

It's good to know that they're working on it, but it's also somewhat frustrating that the game was released with online components that don't seem to work well yet. You can bide your time with offline play and practice while all this madness gets straightened out, but we're looking forward to everything working painlessly in the future.

Will be getting that shortly.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the game. Sure it looked better and the boss fights were a cool touch but I didn't much care for the track selection and the track I was looking forward to the most (Through the Fire and the Flames) was a fkin extra that could only be unlocked once you finished the entire game.
