Cyborg
Digit and SKOAR! are conducting a gaming workshop in Guwahati tomorrow as part of their celebrations of Digit’s 8 anniversary. Be sure to attend it! Here is a brief overview about what the workshop is all about We will be dividing each event into three parts: 1. PC gaming 2. Online gaming 3. Console gaming Post these discussions, we will have a Q&A session. This QnA will be moderated and time-bound, It will conclude in about 60 mins/ On to the content then. 1. PC gaming (Time allotted -1 hour) Points to talk about -- a. Gaming on a budget. Here we look at two aspects: building a gaming rig on a budget of Rs. 20,000, and buying a gaming video card if you have less than Rs. 10,000. We end this session giving away four printouts -- one on the ideal gaming rig (budget not a concern), one on a mid-end gaming rig, and a third on the cheapest rig that will let you game. The fourth printout will be a listing of recommended processors, motherboards, memory, cabinets, and power supplies. This fourth printout is for the guy that would rather mix and match himself. Each of these sheets will have street prices based on the city the event is conducted in. This would take care of the "what to buy", "where to buy", and "how much will that cost" questions, which are sure to be the most common. 2. Online gaming (allotted time: 50 mins) This one will be divided into two aspects: (a) online casual games -- Flash games like those on Kongregate.com, downloadable games like PopCap games, and casual MMORPGs like Puzzle Pirates and Habbo Hotel. This aspect is mostly for people stuck in cybercafes with low-end hardware, and in offices with boring jobs. The second aspect ( is on traditional MMORPG titles. These will include World of Warcraft -- how to get a pack/key, how much does it cost, information on Indian guilds; EVE Online; Ragnarok (not sure how popular this is anymore); Crazy Kart; Guild Wars, and EverQuest. At the end of this session we will give out a two page printout. One page detailing all the online places and sites to play Flash/casual games on, the other detailing pricing and subscription information on some of the MMOs we talked about. 3. Console gaming (allotted time: 30 mins) This one's very straightfoward. We talk about three aspects of console gaming: (a) the hardware, a bit on a console, what makes it special; ( the TV, wherein we talk briefly about buying the right HDTV and briefly about connecting these consoles to an HDTV or a non-HDTV; © making the most of your console in which we mostly talk about taking the console online for multi-player, buying games, downloading demos; using it to play movies, to stream videos and music, to browse the internet, and so on. We only have a Nintendo Wii in Café Xtreme with us as of now; the other two console advice will be mostly based on media. People can try out Dragon Ball Z, Legend of Zelda-Twilight Princess and Cod 4 for free on the Nintendo Wii tomorrow. One lucky person will win a free gaming coupon for playing on the Nintendo Wii. 4. Tournament on Cod4 – What’s a gaming workshop without a gaming TOURNEY!!! The workshop will be concluded by holding a free for all Cod 4 deathmatch. Participation is FREE and there are some cool goodies to get hold of! Make your presence felt tomorrow and answer the Call of Duty!
