Mel81x
Out of sheer curiosity, the HD rips on the internet come in two flavors 720 an 1080. I have tried to push a 1080 rip through wireless and it lagged but when it went through the Cat-Cab conn it worked just fine. As recommended, a simply copy over fixes most problems. I want to know if anyone is streaming 1080 content over WiFi at a considerable distance and getting no lag on their PS3?

Its extremely difficult to achieve drop free performance with 1080 content over WiFi unless you use the 802.11n protocol, and even then, it works well only with short distances and little or no obstruction. I have tried it with my Apple Extreme Router and the PS3 and it works quite well as long as the signal strength doesnt drop below 50%.

surnnce
Hey Guyz Can u please Recommend me a Good software to stream .mkv files on PS3. I ve Tried using PS3 media server but of no use coz some movies ve a Shuttery playback [interrupted playback]. I ve tried Disabling the subtitles bt still the movie has a jittery playback after some time. i have a Linksys WRT54GL Wireless Router. Have you tried to reduce the quality of video in the PS3MS transcoding settings and then stream. Else running it over Ethernet is the best option IMO. Also the PC rig you use needs to be capable of transcoding it on the fly fast, else you may notice lag. I use TSMuxer or MK2VOB personally and dump it into my external HD. Noctis
PS3 media server can directly stream .mkv videos. But you might have to reduce the quality a little while using it on wifi. You can also try Tsmuxer for files compatible with it as the conversion is much faster than mkv2vob.

stormblast
you can use ps3 media server to stream the mkv files on the ps3. i am using it currently without any drop in quality in both audio & video. i am using it on a core2duo e6600. also it will not work on a wifi connection. i have already tried it. it will skip too much because the ps3 only supports G network. I am using a wired connection & it works flawlessly.

MK2VOB does that a bit slower, but has never failed on me
Dr.Hojay
i've been using windows media player ( the network streamer ) - to stream files to the ps3 over wifi - converted a 1080p file from mkv with mkv2vob . works great ! - but with 1080p after a while the skipping kicks in - what fixes it is a quick pause and then play... so i switched to a wired connection and it is lush ! 1080p with no lag ! yay. Shantz
why would you waste time & space converting the file. just use ps3 media server & stream it. ps3mediaserver does the conversion as well but you need a pretty good PC to allow it to do the on-the-fly transcoding.. So i really dont think that the requirements are very high. even the athlon x2's will handle it with ease & also some of the socket 939 single cores.
