Sony Patents PS2 Software Emulation

Recommended Posts

According to the report, the software is intended to "decode and recompile" the hardware used in the PS2's defining chip, the Emotion Engine, possibly allowing for previously unplayable PS2 games to become playable.

earlier if there was EE then full BC else if it was missing then only some % games were playable.......

am i wrong ?

85%

I guess that number covered most of the popular games out there.....i used to sift through the list at times; and only if you would get some game you probably heard bt from timbuktu, it wouldn't play :wOOtjumpy:

dont get your hope hgh, GS (graphic synthesizer) emulation is whats needed for ps2 BC on PS3. all pal consoles shipped without Emotion Engine and still has over 90% of the back library playable. launch US/jpn consoles had both EE and GS built inside the hardware. so unless they find out a way to emulate the GS, software BC is a long way off.

Hmm...i am not sure where this leads to... i always thought that Sony had the PAL ps3s running ps2 games via emulation

yup PAL console had backward compatibility via emulation n NTSC via hardware... EE chip

This doesn't make sense. Why would Sony add BC to PS3s when they can offer the PS2 catalogue for download via PSN and make a killing?

peace

Fan service for existing owners

Oooops!! We f**ked you over by removing B/C. Here, you can have it back

Plus, launch feature for PS3Slim ??

because it was available on xbox360 from day1 .. because any1 with a decent core2 duo can play majority of ps2 games on pc by using pcsx2 .. with 16xAS and 8xAA forced from gfx card..

Going a bit off topic here but does pcsx2 need CD/DVD images or can it read directly from an original PS2 game disc?

Might be worth a try, most PS2 games look like crap on my TV even with a component cable.

There are tons of great PS2 games that never released on the Xbox. And honestly, how many people want to play PS2 classics on a PC (besides the fact that its piracy)?

Dumping bios from your own ps2 to your PC for pcsx2 is legal i think.

Its not piracy if you use the original discs. Its merely going against Sony's Terms of Use.
