Left 4 Dead buried until November 20

New launch date for Valve and Turtle Rock Studios' PC, 360 zombie horror shooter commemorates 10th anniversary of Half-Life.

Most folks would probably say that a zombie-induced apocalypse is a thing to be stalled at all costs, up to and including the quarantine and sacrifice of entire sovereign nations. That's true, of course, unless the cataclysmic event in question is in reference to Valve and Turtle Rock Studios' frenetic survival horror shooter Left 4 Dead. Ironically, it appears the zombie infestation that people actually want to see happen has been delayed all the same.

Speaking to Dutch gaming site GameKings, Valve cofounder and managing director Gabe Newell revealed that Left 4 Dead is now scheduled to ship for the Xbox 360 and PC via Steam on November 20, two weeks after its previously announced ship date. According to Newell, the new launch date commemorates the 10th anniversary of Valve's first major hit, the PC first-person shooter Half-Life.

Left 4 Dead is a survival horror game in which players must work cooperatively to fend off "the infected." Powered by Valve's Source engine, the game is set in a modern-day America, where the remnants of a town attempt to blast their way through an ocean of zombies lest they become infected themselves. In addition to a four-player online co-op mode, the game features competitive play, where players can voluntarily cast their lot as part of the undead horror.

XBox 360 Left 4 Dead To Run On Dedicted Servers :D:P:dance:

Now this is the sort of news to make Xbox 360 owners wee a little in excitement.

We all know the issues Team Fortress 2 has faced with lag, but with the news that Left 4 Dead will be running through XBL on dedicated servers, we should see much better performance and a host of other advantages.

The PC differences don't stop there. There will be a host of changes that will have the PC fanboys leaping about in self righteous glee, such as the console version having a subtle auto aim built in. Also, due to the decreased sensitivity of movement with the controller, enemies will be less likely to attack from behind, giving players a better chance of manuvering into position before having their backsides gnawed upon.

All this and more about the console version can be found in the 1UP preview of the game.

A Left 4 Dead demo beheaded to 360

left4deadkaboomz.jpg

Valve's Gabe Newell has confirmed to VideoGamer.com that a Left 4 Dead demo is on its way to the Xbox Live Marketplace. Trust us when we tell you that this is very good news. The demo is set to include single-player and online co-op (!) and will feature "the first part of one of the campaigns," which Newell suggest will "probably" be the Hospital level that has been shown to the press (though the final decision rests with Doug Lombardi). Unfortunately, there is no concrete release date set for the demo just yet. Here's hoping we get it before the game's November 21 release. Sooner would be better than later, because our zombie shooting trigger finger is itchy.
