m-JeRi
The better screen make the readability more pleasant. the screen glares and stuff are low, to a extent. so i wont skimp on that.
Kazekage Gaara
Hi guys, My cousin is interested in getting a new laptop, and I thought rather than making a new thread, I would revive this one Please help us get a new laptop. Budget is 50k. Right now, I've read all the posts in this thread, and it seems that Dell Studio 15 (when customized to our needs) comes down to 46k. The important things that we are getting in it are... Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T6500 (2.10GHz/ 800 FSB/ 2MB Cache) 4GB (2X2GB) DDR2 SDRAM Memory 500GB SATA Hard Drive 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 My question is, is it better than the HP Pavilion dv6-1110ax. We are getting these in it.... AMD Turion™ X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-74 2.20 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache 4GB (2X2GB) DDR2 SDRAM Memory 320GB SATA Hard Drive ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4650 We are getting the HP dv6-1110ax for 45k. Now, I can see that the video card is a better one, but what about the processor ? Which one should we go for ? If you have a better laptop than these 2, then please suggest us. Thank you so much in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply
achilles
what are your requirements.. as in.. what do you want to use the laptop for.. if it is not gaming then i can safely suggest you to go mac. or to try a mac. edit : dunno much about the graphix cards but out of the two u mentioned, the dell studio 15 sounds better. more HD space and L2 cache. Mac is outta the picture, coz we need Windows XP (or may be Windows Seven in the future), and it'll mostly be used for regular home stuff like watching movies, writing mails, etc., and while we are at it, it would be better if it could run games at decent settings
Death Stryke
Dell is pretty good. Good specs there. Though try bumping the processor to a P8700 at 2.53 ghz? Dell one gives a free Win 7 upgrade when it releases as well. The above mentioned tasks can be done in a Mac as well (other than gaming). Though price might be an issue. Not suggesting one .. But I heard the build quality of the dell is so-so

Death Stryke
Yea well, Its probably notches faster. And why go for a 2.1 Ghz processor now in late 2009. The HD4570 is good for basic gaming. Like could run games till now at medium to low settings (except crysis prolly) Then again, do check out the build quality of the dell. I havent heard good things about it

I thought Dell was the best. My cousin was going for an HP coz he could get it instantly, aka pay up the price and take home the laptop. It's coz of me he's ready to even think about paying up online and waiting 15 days to get the laptop
achilles
except for the games, mac is far superior in whatever u mentioned. and if u reeeely do need win 7, u cud install that as well.. i wouldn't, but watever @ DS : he can get the macbook for the budget he mentioned. with the edu discount. edit : and if u look up the macbook ull c that it's specs r a lot lower than the machines u mentioned (im assuming the graphix card is not a factor here), but believe me when i say it, th macbook does not need all the extra horsepower. If that can be done, he'll be ecstatic with the looks of the Macbook He was a little skeptical with the looks of the Dell Studio as he was comparing it with the HP chocolate designed one , which looks magnificent by the way
Shantz
@kamikaze ( ) Some points: 1. HP's build quality is better than Dell. See if you can find a similar spec in HP. 2. P8700 is quite a bit of improvement over T6500. Not just in terms of horsepower but also in running cool, drawing less power.. 3. Can't say much about gfx card.. 4. If you must save money, save it on HDD (and possibly RAM) as these can be added later easily yourself when needed with aftermarket components. Spend most on proc/gfx. 5. I don't think any of current gen AMD proc's can compete with Intel in terms of horsepower as well as horsepower to power consumption ratio. It might be a little big. HP laptops, especially the new DV2 laptop looks pretty good to me and would suit your needs fine. Anyway, look and feel is your call
