Kazekage Gaara
Hi guys, A very good friend of mine has got a go ahead from his father to get a 46" Sony Bravia. Now, he as well as me, have done quite an extensive research about the various models that are available, and now we are stuck on two. The Sony Bravia 46V550A and the Sony Bravia 46W450A. Now, we checked out both of them at various different showrooms and outlets, and we need your suggestion. Is it better to have 46V550A with Bravia Engine 3 and WITHOUT MotionFlow. OR... Is it better to have 46W450A with Bravia Engine 2 WITH MotionFlow 100 hz. Please help us out with this difficult choice. Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply PS: Unfortunately for us, the 46W550A is not yet available in India or Singapore
MarketTantrik
Motionflow 100 Hz is good if you plan to hook up your laptop/PC to your TV. Otherwise is quit useless since game consoles dont make use of it and watching Blu Rays / DVDs with 100Hz enabled results in weird framerate issues with the movie. (Sometimes the film runs at normal speed and sometimes it speeds up framerates slightly, but noticeably, resulting in a negative impact on the "visual depth" of the movie)

abhi90
100Hz wont matter much...... and @MT i disagree with youre post on 100hz, there is no change in framerates AFAIK with some films 100 Hz will look good to you or may not look good......its a matter of preference it smoothens out the pictures by adding frames in between the original source that may give rise to artifacts....... also the added smoothness may be a benefit or you may encounter soap opera effect and dislike it.. so it is totally upto you... generally it is considered good and if you're not short on money then it wont hurt whats the extra price you gotta pay for 100Hz.........also i dont have an idea of sony much but since V has a newer engine so it should be better........ also have you looked at samsung and LG HDTV's ? Dude...price doesn't matter. He's ready to shell out something extra if it's worth it It's just that 46W550A (W series - which has the Bravia Engine 3) is not yet available to us and the lower one (46W450A) has BE2 and MotionFlow. Another model we checked out was the V series, which has the BE3 but no motion flow, hence the confusion If we were getting 46W550A, then there won't be such confusion coz it'll have both BE3 and MotionFlow About checking out other brands, they are crazy about Sony's We might check out Samsung LED TV's but he's not even considering it in the whole "picture"

MarketTantrik
100Hz wont matter much...... and @MT i disagree with youre post on 100hz, there is no change in framerates AFAIK Its very obvious, especially on Blu Ray. I'm not sure what you were watching on MotionFlow that you didnt notice it. Its well documented in reviews as well and not just for Sony TVs but also for Samsungs and LGs. with some films 100 Hz will look good to you or may not look good......its a matter of preference I'm sure everyone prefers to watch films with the proper depth it smoothens out the pictures by adding frames in between the original source that may give rise to artifacts....... LOWUT!?! It does no such thing. 100 Hz is the refresh rate. Its not some magic engine that can decipher whats going on on screen and automatically create extra frames. also the added smoothness may be a benefit or you may encounter soap opera effect and dislike it.. Thats it. The soap opera effect detracts from the movie experience. generally it is considered good and if you're not short on money then it wont hurt I wouldn't recommend spending the extra dough on Motionflow unless you are planning to hook up a PC to the screen. whats the extra price you gotta pay for 100Hz.........also i dont have an idea of sony much but since V has a newer engine so it should be better........ also have you looked at samsung and LG HDTV's ? Kazekage Gaara
Thank you so much MT for all your suggestions and knowledge. Really appreciate it buddy Positive rep i would normally gow ith v550 cuz it has a newer engine ifi had to chosse between these two...... why not get sony x or zx series ? and there are very good samsung LCD's out there that can blast the current led's in almost every point.... Yes, the V550 seems to be the better choice here About the X or Z series, the ones we end up liking are really costly models going way up the 2 lac mark
abhi90
@MT lolwut lolwut 100Hz indeed insert frames to give an illusion of smoothness Check This Link Also it is a preference if you like soap opera effect or not.....just like some ppl like SRPG's or they do not....... And if it retracts you can turn it off........ and i would have to investigate the changing framerate as you say will get back on it....... arun360
Can you turn the 100Hz mode on/off or is it forced on everything that is displayed? Because if you can toggle the 100Hz, you should go for it. You can enable as and when you like. It sure does make things look magical ( Car chases, explosions, Slo mo running of certain heroine) You'll never want to watch regular 50Hz TV again. I have a 1080i/720p 100Hz CRT HDTV and it does stuff better than most entry level LCDs.
abhi90
100Hz is the refresh rate so it cant be changed but the technologies which manufactureres used to smoothen or insert frames (called as motionflow etc.) can very well be turned off.....
