Diffrence between fake and real DS3 controller ?

Hey i was jus searching for a Brand New PS3 Dualshock3 controller in Mumbai i found one type of DS3 controller in official shops and SONY dealers & Retailers but i found another DS3 controller in Grey market which had a same packing. But two things were different the Bluetooth Logo behind the Box pack was smaller and at the back everything was written in Chinese + English whereas the controller wh i saw in most of the Official Sony Outlets had Russian + English written on the back side of the packing.

By Look both controllers looked same the difference was only the price.

SONY [outlet+dealers] Price = 2990/- with 3 moths warranty

Grey market price = 2500/- with ofcourse no warranty

i was afraid tht i may end up buying a fake controller frm Grey mkt so i ddnt buy frm there,

So my question is are there any fake controllers or both of them were original ?

Not sure but could also be a controller from a different region , grey markets usually have NTSC-J region stuff which is Chinese / Japanese .

Sometimes there are a few cosmetic differences between same things but from a different region .

I have a PlayStation 3 purchased from North America so , is there something like PS3 controllers purchased from India wont be compatible with PS3's from North America ?

nope no such thing AFAIK.....

if you have a NTSC J region ps3 and a controller from india then youre X and O buttons will be interchanged rest no problem.........

i bought an official controller from ebay and it also has Russian written on its back. my PS3 is NTSC U and it works fine so u dont need to worry abt that. and i guess the other controller is not fake. different regions have slightly different build AFAIK. and yes no interchanging of buttons here... NTSC U console and PAL DS3 get along well :P

The ones available in the grey market with Chinese writing on the packaging are totally good. And they should cost about Rs. 2,000 - 2,200. DON'T buy the ones with french on their packaging - sometimes their buttons don't work.

There are fake controllers out there.. or maybe they are not fake but models that didn't pass the QA tests and hence someone sold them out for cheap.. I have one such model with me..

well 500 rupees translates to a 20% discount. I think generally speaking a 20% discount is not too shabby!!!

I bought a ds3 from Palika (french packaging) - worked, but L2 or L3 (don't remember) didn't work in Killzone (though it worked in other games). Got it changed for a ds3 in Chinese packaging, and that has been working perfectly since then.

  • 1 month later...
Finally i bought the DS3 controller frm CROMA with 3 months warranty... . This one has Russian + English written on its back. :panic:

buy a controller with milestone sticker on the back. they are the official importers. imo th quality of ds3's has gone down for real ones too.. my friend recently bot a new kz2 bundle and his ds3 felt a lot inferior to mine.. so mayb cost cutting is getting to sony!

also, there is no warranty with accessories. so that 3 month warranty is moot.
