ud5 is 15.5k here in hyd... i just asked tht guy

and

wht have u decided???

Which store in Hyd? Any idea if 15.5k, is including VAT?

I'm in correspondence with Gigabyte support. They've said that there's going to be a GA-MA790GPT-UD4H released (they didn't specify the release date), so that news puts me off buying the GA-MA790GPT-UD3H. I've got a few more questions which I've asked them. I'll take a final decision after I get their reply.

I have also been thinking of getting the Phenom II x4 955 + the cheapest 780G mobo that I can find + 1GB cheapest DDR2 RAM and wait out the month(s), until the GA-MA790GPT-UD4H is released. Do you guys think whether this is a good idea or not?

BTW Gigabyte have said that even for the Japanese motherboards, the BIOS are always in english. So I asked my cousin in Japan to confirm the price of the GA-EX58-UD4 over there, but he says that only the GA-EX58-UD4P is now available  . So if I go Core i7, I may as well go with the UD5 which is available here itself.

Overall right now I'm leaning more towards the Core i7+UD5.

1. HD4770 is available for Rs.8100 on theitwares, can it be crossfired with AMD's upcoming Directx11 GPU's?

2. Does AMD have any graphic cards out right now which can be crossfired with their upcoming Directx11 GPU's?

3. Should I get a 7200GS 256MB now and wait for Directx11 GPU's or should I get a 9600GT?

Getting the 9600GT now would mean I'll only be able to get a similar (to the 9600GT) mainstream Dx11 GPU, while if I get the 7200GS, I'll have enough $ to get an HD4850 equivalent Dx11 GPU. Overall budget for the GPU is limited to 10-12k. (7200GS = Rs.1300)

4. Between a Palit 9800GT 512MB Rs.5650 and an XFX 9600GT 512MB Rs.5300, which one would be better? Is it worth going for a 9800GT now over a 9600GT?

I would prefer getting a passive heatsink GPU right now (and then wait for Dx11), as they tend to last longer compared to a fansink GPU.

5. Other than the 7200GS, which currently available GPU's are "fanless"?

6. Any idea on what the Dx11 GPU's are expected to cost?

better get something now temporarily....because whenever ATI or Nvidia launch a new generation of cards they generally bring out the flagships like the GTXs and alll so expect them to be more than 20k if u want to play games on DX11 that is.....if u just want support for DX11 then wait till oct or november the mainboards by then will have DX11 support with Windows 7......And 9800GT is definately worth the 300 or 400 bucks...

Its not worth 8100 , look for a used HD4850 .. there are many selling at other forums @ 5 - 5.5k . These can't be CF'd with 5xxx series .

2. Does AMD have any graphic cards out right now which can be crossfired with their upcoming Directx11 GPU's?

Don't think so

3. Should I get a 7200GS 256MB now and wait for Directx11 GPU's or should I get a 9600GT?

Neither , get an used HD4850

Provided the palit version has a reference cooler , 9800GT would be much better

I would prefer getting a passive heatsink GPU right now (and then wait for Dx11), as they tend to last longer compared to a fansink GPU.

:D

5. Other than the 7200GS, which currently available GPU's are "fanless"?

AFAIK , i think 8600GT "green edition" or something comes but not sure of availability

6. Any idea on what the Dx11 GPU's are expected to cost?

10 chars ..

1---.8.1k for 4770 is too much.... MSI one is 6.5k and no it cant be CFed with future cards 'coz its unobvious tht they will develop Dx11 GPU in 4700 series instead they may introdue 4900 series but this is just my thought...

2--AFAIK cant say but most probably NO

3--I think integrated gfx can take care of ur purpose 'coz Im assuming u dont game on this rig

4-- get 9800gt

5--sorry no idea here maybe 3300 series in ATI

6--obviously depends on its make and power for ex:: 4770 is Dx10.1 GPU avail for 6k (if u bargain/ get 4m disti) and 4890 Dx10.1 is avail for 13k-16k

my advice is to get urself a 9800gt which handles most of the games nicely and at 5.8k its a no brainer.....

and later u can get the Dx11 GPUs which get outdated within a year or so due to release of Dx11.1 or higher

I've decided to get the Core i7 920 + UD5 + 9600GT. 9800GT isn't available. I was quoted Rs.16500 for the Sapphire HD4890 1GB. That's Rs.3000 more than what I was willing to pay, so I junked that idea :chair:. Considering the max resolution for my CRT is 1280x1024 and with Dx11 right around the corner, it doesn't make much sense to spend more . If I upgrade to an LCD monitor, I'll probably get something like Samsung's 2233RZ 3D monitor+whatever GPU is required at that time.

Which CPU cooler should I get for the Core i7 920 + HAF 922 case? The CPU cooler should not interfere with the 200mm top fan in the HAF 922, because I don't want to replace that fan with anything smaller. I won't be overclocking too much and certainly not while the warranty is valid but it seems that the Core i7 runs really hot on stock cooling. No water cooling though.

Since I'm getting a new comp, I'd like to game a bit as well. But it's been 2 years that I've been out of the gaming scene. So suggest me some games based on the following criteria:

Strategy - Reality/History/Fantasy based City/Empire/Civilisation building, with an economic and war element involved.

Eg. Age of empires, Emperor Rise of The Middle Kingdom, Majesty The Fantasy Kingdom Sim, Civilisation etc.

Simulation - Cars, Tanks, Fighter Jets, Space(ship) Fighters.

Eg. Need for Speed, Armored Fist, F-16 MRF, Tachyon The Fringe etc.

First Person Shooter - Sci Fi saving the world stuff, preferably with plenty of aliens/mutants to fight (Eg. Half-Life). Also real world, wars stuff, especially where the fighting is in the open field (Eg. Call of Duty) and where one can snipe most of the time (Eg. Sniper Elite), instead of where most of it is room-2-room fighting.

As long as the *enemy* is based on reality or science or sci-fi and where most of the (ingame  ) fighting is not indoors, then I don't mind it, no probs with blood, gore, violence in the games. But absolutely NO HORROR, ghosts or evil stuff. (Eg. Doom with its HELL element, even though it was sci-fi and saving the world stuff but hated it).

Get Megahalem for cpu cooling , around 3.5k .. comes with i7 bracket .. next best alternative is Thermal Right Ultra Extreme around 2.6k but doesnt come with i7 bracket meaning you ll have to spend another 600 on those .

Also both of them don't come with a fan .. get a scythe 100Cfm fan and you are set for a easy dizy 3.6 - 4ghz oc .

www.lynx-india.com < Megahalem available here .

Megahalem looks huge. Will it interfere with the case fans? The HAF 922 has a 200mm top fan + I'll be adding 2 120mm CM fans to the side. I can't see any space for a fan to be added onto the Megahalem. Is the scythe 100Cfm fan supposed to go on the Megahalem or were you suggesting it for the case? What size fan do I need to get, 80/90/120mm? Would it be possible to use this heatsink for any other non-LGA1366 CPU in future? (provided that the required brackets etc. are available).

At prolimatech.com they've shown a thermal paste as part of the accesories to the Megahalem. I was planning to get Arctic Cooling MX-2. So do I need to get Arctic Cooling MX-2 or should I just use what I get with the Megahalem?

@~--YeSH--~ (and everyone else as well)

Thanks.

Yes , Megahalem is huge :wallbash: .. it won't interfere with any of the fans on the HAF . Yes , you can use it with any CPU AM2/AM3/LGA775/LGA1366 as many times as you want .

Check review here for installation images / fan pics etc.

What about the Thermalright IFX-14, how does it compare to the Megahalem? Last night I was reading xbitlabs's review and the IFX-14 seemed to be better than the Megahalem. Plus the cost of getting the Megahalem from lynx-india would be almost the same as getting the IFX-14 from here.
