Kaz Hirai will Keynote TGS 09

Recommended Posts

Kaz Hirai, the chairman and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, will kick off Tokyo Game Show 2009 with a keynote address, the show’s organizer announced Friday.

The speech, which will take place at 10:30 a.m. on September 24, is tentatively titled “Sony Computer Entertainment: New Tactics for 2009.” Hirai last keynoted TGS in 2007, shortly after taking the reins of the Sony division. Then, he spoke about a shift in strategy, saying that the PlayStation 3 was fundamentally a “game machine,” stepping back from his predecessor Ken Kutaragi’s vision of the hardware as an all-in-one media supercenter.

He also took the occasion to announce the DualShock 3 controller. Tokyo Game Show keynotes by platform makers generally contain a few interesting announcements, although never anything on the level of an E3 press briefing. With the tantalizing title, we can assume that Hirai will be attempting to pump up PlayStation 3’s image in Japan and around the world with some strategy announcements.
