arun360
Damn thing just won't read any Blu-rays anymore. I can power it off/on and it'll work for a while(2mins-2hours) and then it starts acting up again. Never thought I'd have to do this. It took me by surprise, I'm puzzled, I'm without speech, I don't know how I'm supposed to feel. I mean, I'm not a hardcore gamer, I don't abuse my consoles. I clock about 10 gaming hours a week of which the PS3 takes up what, less than half? I haven't had a console die on me. I take care of my gadgets, atleast the ones I've bought with my hard earned money. Maybe I ought to feel like the day my Atari joystick wouldn't register the left directional input anymore. Nope. That would be wrong because I am personally to blame for the abnormal wear and tear of about 8+ controllers. This video cannot be played (80029941) during a poignant scene in the Matrix blu-ray( Neo rises from the dead after kiss from Trinity ), I did not see that coming. I will have no part of it. I have no role to play in this malfunction. Anyhoo, I still have about 2 months warranty remaining. So I guess I'm covered, huh? So gang, I'm going to visit the service center tomorrow - Is Indiranagar Sony World open on Sundays ? The thing is, normal functionality is restored if you cold start enough number of times. At the service center if the guy dismisses off my issue after performing above procedure, what do I do? My system is showing signs of dying, how do I convince him of that and get my replacement? Is there an SOD victim etiquette?
TheHitman
just a suggestion bro, start abusing it immediately (play the disc non-stop, wear out the lens or something) so that it doesnt work tomorrow when u take it to the service center... arun360
^ Did that. Seems to be working fine now. Happily playing a BR for the past 15mins. The error is gone but I know for a fact it'll return. It has happened 2-3 times in the past week already. Today it just refused to read any BRs(games, movies) even after restarting twice, confirming my worries.

arun360
You're right ghb. I have warranty for only two more months. Right now the problem is just intermittent, what if it completely dies on me post warranty? I'll be screwed if I can't reproduce the issue at the service center. arun360
Update: An hour into the "The Making of" featurette, the screen froze on me and upon restart, the movie wouldn't play and I got the error again
dabba
arun reading ur initial post i really felt bad for u... i have been there myself but in the last couple of months had been playing around 15-20 hours per week so now it wont play any blu-ray? then ur warranty will work but if it goes out of warranty then u will have to replace the blu-ray drive lens... if u are adventurous enough u can follow the steps from a you-tube guide disassemble the blu-ray drive n replace the lens yourself

shockwave
I clock about 10 gaming hours a week of which the PS3 takes up what, less than half? This is sad. Damn I feel for you mate. Good that it's under warranty. Best thing would be to take a photo/video while the error appears. Also, you can ask them to keep the thing for few days to test it. (though it would be too painful for you to live without ps3). Recently my Viewsonic 28" gave me a vertical line. Their engineer came and saw it himself. But when they took it to the service center it was gone. So I had absolutely no way of convincing them about the problem except for their engineer's citation. So that helped. But since you have only 2months of warranty left. You ought to wait for that error again. And take photo/video of it OR best to have someone from their center to be present. In short: Get rid of that piece before warranty expires!!! I had imported my PS3 80gb and it YLOD'd .. and trust me it didn't feel good to chip out the amount of money I had to, to fix it. OT: BTW, do they have Wachowskis in the making? (I havn't seen the making)

Solitaire
@shockwave Whenever someone asks whether they've got their YLOD probs sorted out and how, there's no reply..... Happened when I enquired in the other thread too (KC's PS3). Please tell us how you were able to fix it, where and how much it cost you.. @arun360 Why not put a disc in the wrong way and see if the console craps up??? Is there an SOD victim etiquette? dude sometimes being tooo honest doesn't pay So my piece of advice would be go there tell them that it happens occasionaly and sometimes the system hangs the remote stops functioning, the drive doesn't eject the game or for that matter the system starts but there is no video... when i went there they never checked it thats for sure cos i was not facing any issue i only wanted 80gb console in exchange of 40 and I got it so its worth taking risk than to sit and wait for it to come..... and what if it happens just after your warranty expires?? then what? i'm sure at that time they won't dismiss your problem stating that its fixed rather they would charge you for it This is the time to capitalise the money that you paid go there and moreover I got 1 year extened warranty on the system.they will not check it.. i'm saying this cos they didn't check mine..may be it depends.... So make sure they give you a New one which is Sealed and do get them to fill the warranty card. It worked for me... if u have ny issues just PM me I'll tell you some more tricks... which I can't just tell publicly.....

vageta666
You a expert in these cases ? expert..well that i don't know but yes since I'd paid for my console from my hard earned money i NEVER give up on these Service centers guys cos I know they fool others and think that they can fool everyone....I've had experiences of buying the most expensive speakrs of Altec Lansing and using it for 8 months and getting the whole money refunded (excluding service tax ) but as far as this is concerned you can get a controller bought from Palika replaced by erasing the serial no. from the back.. and they don't even check that.. may be where I go the lady is not that much aware of these things and accepts it.... and once it is submitted nowbody can refuse you service..... arun360
OT: BTW, do they have Wachowskis in the making? (I havn't seen the making) Yeah. They're not very likeable. I don't think they called all the shots in Matrix 1. Cases in point -the sequels. Loads of behind the scenes footage, you get to see the work of all the other people beyond the star billing. arun360
UPDATE: Thanks for the tips, guys. I did not have to do anything. The drive must've died overnight. It wouldn't play anything in the morning. I checked the PS3 in the service center today. I was told they'll perform a repair in case of a minor issue, if not it'll be replaced. They'll call me, in 3 days. No GT5 sessions till then. The game had such a calming quality to it. I'd drive a couple of laps when I got home even if I had just returned from an hour of maddening traffic. It's funny. I chose the Logitech Driving Force GT for the PS3 over the Xbox 360 wheels because I strongly believed the PS3 hardware to be better equipped to handle extended all night play sessions and then this happens.
