Midnight Club LA postponed again

Take-Two street racer drifts back to late October in search of a "more favorable market window."

Midnight Club: Los Angeles is having false starts like a student driver trying to master the subtle art of the manual transmission. After being initially announced for a release early this year, the game was pushed to September 9, then again to October 7. Now the Rockstar street racer is being held back once again, as Take-Two today revealed another push for the game in its quarterly earnings report.

If there's any consolation for fans awaiting the game, it's that the delays are becoming sequentially shorter. This latest push is only two weeks, with Midnight Club: Los Angeles and the PlayStation Portable offshoot Midnight Club: LA Remix set for a North American release October 21. Europeans will be able to get behind the wheel October 24.

In an investor conference call, Take-Two chief financial officer Lainie Goldstein said the game was moved back to "a more favorable market window." While Goldstein didn't identify any specific market conditions, online retailers including GameStop and Amazon.com are currently expecting Sony's PlayStation 3 racer MotorStorm: Pacific Rift to arrive October 7.

I may be in a minority when I say this, but trust me, doing races in Paradise City was a big pain in the a$$. The compass sucked for one thing, and more often than not, the turn indicators were functioning in an ambiguous manner...

Which is why, I'm slightly worried about Midnight Club: LA. I really want this game, but if my racing will be ruined just like it was in Paradise, then I'll have to wonder if it would be worth it. I'm all for open world when in free roam, but seriously the tried-and-tested cordoned route gameplay seemed fine to me. Unless the implementation is better than what burnout had to offer, this could also result in a lot of frustration. :P

Of course, on the flip side, there is slow-motion. That'd be a real boon... I like how the game looks though. and if Sam's day 1 release predictions in the last blog post holds good, then I'll be doing a double purchase with this title and Far Cry 2. :P Oh, I almost forgot about Bioshock, make that a triple purchase... :P

i kinda liked the compass in paradise....took a while getting used to but i liked it because the compass shows you to the destination rather than your next turn.....its up to you to find your way to the destination

and ya im looking forward to MCLA.....it will probably be the only game that can rival FM2's car customisation

peace

I get the feeling that the compass was a pointless addition. But the compass can still be forgiven. The vagueness of the turn indicators is even harder to fathom. racing in the city was always chaotic, and badly timed turn signals weren't helping much. Especially the fatal 90-degree turns at the Naval Yard. I was almost always caught out by that one.

Still, like I said, with MC:LA there's the obvious benefit of Slow-motion. So that'll by itself address 80% of my qualms, I suspect. Agree about the car customization. Especially the interiors. Quite a lot on offer. The trailers look promising, the features look good, there's a nice variety of vehicles to race. All in all, there's a lot going for it.
